Too bad that ist seems confirmed the new lighting looses all kind of details on armor textures...

Lt1sY32.png

I mean just compare with this : https://youtu.be/ZfI-eC9HiYA?t=9m51s

After playing the Network Test, I have to say it's not as jarring while you're in the moment and not fixating on small details in a still image. That being said, the very much decreased heavy bloom and some other effects providing a much 'cleaner' overall look just don't work for me artistically. It looks too clean and...nice visually which isn't really jiving with its overall aesthetics. The attempted more natural look of the lighting doesn't make sense either in a game as heavily stylized. It's not fugly or anything particularly, but it does rob some of its identity visually in my opinion and looks less 'dreamy'/surreal and a bit bland.

Newcomers should most definitely pick this up, less picky folks as well, but personally I'm going for a cheap used copy later down the line or something. It's probably my favorite game of all time and I really, really want to actually play Blighttown instead of just dreading the frame rate, but I dislike the revamped look of it enough to not be remotely in a hurry here.

The thing I'm looking forward to most is the first few days, being able to summon and invade without endless twinks

I am speaking for myself, obviously, and was agreeing with someone else. I'm getting the game too. I'm just not ultra excited about it. It's ok, don't be offended

I am not offended at all but I appreciate your concern. Ive never played this game before which is probably why I have this stance.

That said, I am a sucker for any and all improvements to my favorite games.

Whether or not you buy this game makes absolutely no difference to me.

People are surely going to figure out some new glitches, dupe techniques and whatnot really quickly. So expect op invaders and whatnot to become commonplace within the first week.

I can't believe I'm so excited for a game that I've already played and finished multiple times on multiple platforms.

Going for PS4 version while waiting for switch version.

Now to get physical or digital though? Getting a physical copy would save me about 7$, but on the other hand digital is so convenient...

Damn it, I've looked everywhere because of the pic in the OP, only to find out there's no physical PC version. Now I'm even more mad at Bamco. >.<

I went digital this time even though it's a bit more expensive. It's only around 7gb and it's a classic game to have on the console at all times. I'd go digital if I were you :)

I can't believe I'm signing myself up for hours of punishment. Orn and Smo, blight town, Capra...fuck. me.

Have you played Bloodborne and DS3? I feel like after playing those games, most of Dark Souls will actually feel kind of easy, Souls games have gotten progressively harder but it was kind of hard to notice as we played them in order by release date. I might be wrong, but I feel like the only parts I will still find hard are some of the AotA bosses and the environmental challenges like Painting room or Sens Fortress. I can't imagine O&S being hard after besting the Nameless King, nor can I imagine the Capra Demon giving me much trouble after my harrowing battle with Laurence, the first Vicar.

Why is everybody so obsessed about preordering the game? Especially if you consider that the "Prepare to die Edition" on PC was a total mess...

Yea, I replayed Dark Souls just this month (with the Prepare to Die Again mod) and was really dreading O&S who had always been an enormous thorn in my side.. and I got them down in six attempts. Which I suppose is still a decent amount but I was expecting like thirty lol. By and large the game was much breezier than I remember it being, and doing the DLC for the first time I found all but Manus to be pretty underwhelming, and Manus only stood out because of his magic bs.

Soo hyped for this even though I just replayed it, if nothing else because of the fresh community. I got invaded exactly once during my replay, I'm excited for that to start happening again regularly, and to be able to partake myself.

Yep, I've played both. Perhaps DS1 sticks out most in my mind because it was the first souls game I had ever played. I also feel like the space between bonfires, especially in the first areas is not as generous as souls 3. Hopefuly 7 years of training will have payed off and it will be easier this time around :)

The problem with PtD is that the game was designed to run at 30fps, and unlocking the framerate causes some problems. It's safe to assume the PC version won't be locked to 30fps.
Well it sure was the core problem but it also lacked graphic options, had abysmal mouse & keyboard controls, used Games for Windows Live and had barely working multiplayer. People were still happy that the game made it to PC. ;)

Well of course, I was happy when it came to PC as well. GFWL isn't a thing anymore, and the game will most likely be using the decent DS3 KBM controls, as for graphics options DS2 and DS3 have them on PC so I don't see why it wouldn't have those options.

Four full flegded souls games in 5 years...yep. Lazy is a fair assessment.

Thanks for agreeing with me.

Dark Souls was one of the worst ports I've ever seen on the PC - it was especially galling that the community was able to make such massive changes in such a short amount of time, and that From Software couldn't even be bothered to implement these changes, thus forcing its own customers to go offsite and download a fix.

The word 'lazy' seems to be a word we're not supposed to use anymore - but this is the perfect example of EXTREME laziness.

I love the way you're trying to defend From Software by telling me how many Souls games they've made. Dude, classic.

I don't care how many games you've made: if you can't even be bothered to add in basic pc resolution support then you need to be called out on your shit. Doubly so if the community fixes your game for you, and you can't even be bothered to make the same changes yourself.

(Honestly, though, I suspect that what's really going on here is you saw the word 'lazy', and it set you off. Your post didn't actually have anything to do with what I wrote. I'm guessing you know full well that From completely dropped the ball on the DS port.)

I haven't touched the original since 2013 but is the PVP SL meta still 120 / 125? I'm guessing it'll carry over to the remaster. I'm on Mugenmonkey figuring out my build, hah.

How about we keep this ot spoiler free? :D
That's a good question... I'm not sure how OTs for other remasters handled this. Most people playing it, I presume, will be veterans, but it'd be nice if newcomers to the game could participate in the OT with as much of a spoiler-free experience as possible. This may be difficult though.

What does everyone, especially OP The Living Tribunal, think, of a spoiler policy for this OT, at least for the first month or so?

What constitutes spoilers in Dark Souls when they tell you who the big bosses are in the opening cinematic, though?

I don't mind tagging my posts, just want to know what I should tag.

True, and most of the more iconic moments are, well, iconic and meme-ified now. I'm not sure what the right answer is, so that's why I'm asking for opinions.

I just remembered I never played any DLC content in any of the DS games and skipped some optional areas so I guess this is the perfect chance to do that. Just when I was watching the trailer there I didn't recognise some of the bosses. I kinda just ran through the base game for 1/2/3. I think a "replay" of the series is happening then.

Artorias of the Abyss has my favorite bosses in the game, enjoy.

Hopefully we get the release date for the Switch version sometime soon, I too am waiting for it.

I'd suggest that we mark spoilers for every area except for the Northern Undead Asylum, Firelink Shrine, and the Undead Burg; and for every boss that is not one of those named in the opening cinematic.

An alternative would be to mark spoilers of all optional content; after all, I'm sure everyone has heard of Blighttown by now; but I'd prefer to err on the side of caution here.
