Interesting. Eevee would need a stat buff, but I'm assuming we still have a pick of actual starters though and the following Pokemon are more like cheerleaders.
I wonder if we can still trade them, evolve them in another game, then bring them back like we could do in Pokemon Yellow with Pikachu.
Or you can just catch a new evee as was discussed in a subsequent tweet on the next/same page

I figured Alolan Forms.

Still Mimkyu is popular with Go folks I've noticed so I could see it cameoing.

Wait.

You. Can't. Evolve. Eevee.

Ok. Im out. Fuck this shit.

I don't mind the direction, but these decisions are just baffling. No online? Guess I can't battle or trade with my friends. Restricting eevee evolutions in a role playing game?? Why why why.

Can you capture another eevee and evolve it at least?

You can capture another Eevee and evolve it.

I think with the portability of the Switch online play isn't very important to the core audience of Pokémon games which is children. I won't let my daughters play online games (5 and 8) but I'm willing to let my eldest take her switch with her tona friends house.
I get that; but the 3DS games had online for people who wanted it and it could be disabled via Parental Controls, so I can't really see it as an excuse.

I've been with Pokemon since Gen 1. Idk I guess I figured a yellow remake would only have the original 151. I'm excited to visit Kanto again. Haven't been there since the GBA remakes over a decade ago unless you count the Gen 2 remakes on DS.

I also really hate Pokemon Go. Looks like it's just an extra feature. It's not like they are making us play both.

I mean there's no wild battles, you just chuck pokeballs so it's not really just an extra feature, it's Pokemon go ported to kanto

Acting as if kids and casuals won't know anything about Eevee or its evolutions while simultaneously being interested in Eevee version over the Pikachu one is the most bleak view of the young human psyche I've ever seen. Let's give them some credit, enough to hope that they might be confused that the literal Evolution Pokémon is unable to evolve.
You're misunderstanding. Most people who will get this are either kids who won't care if they can't evolve the Eevee, or lapsed fans, who, again, just want it because it's cute. I am sure some people will be confused about it, don't get me wrong, but I think it won't be as big a deal as some think it will be is all.

I wanted to explore Kanto in 3D for YEARS and now I finally can but it's not a main title and doesn't even have online.

I just can't...

Damn why though? This is just screwing over Eevee fans.
Probably cause they want your buddy Pokémon to be visible in the overworld sitting on your shoulder/head and that wouldn't work with their evolutions. You can still catch a wild Pikachu/Eevee if you want an evolved form.

Lets go mother fucking Pikachu. I am one the many OGs that grew up with blue and red. 150+ is absoulty fine by me.

My other thoughts, graphics are the best they ever been. Wild battles not available is gonna be weird as hell though...but I guess open world pokemon is gonna be the thing. Sounds good. It is the natrual progression of how Pokemon should eventually go. Co Op is gonna be badass. Also, love the single joycon features.

Online will be announced later, I would bet money on it.

Lets goooo!!! Lets go!!!

I'm also an OG. I've stuck with the series since then & still play Pokèmon Go daily.

I'm fucking incensed about this & a half-hearted tease for Gen 8 that insinuates they want it to be more portable.

The semantics of whether or not it's a "mainline" game is irrelevant. It's not a traditional Pokémon game like the 2019 one is. And that's fine.

The meltdowns in this thread are going to be ones we look back on in a couple of years after the mainline games come out and laugh.

Just like the "fucking donkey Kong" ones
They'll be funnier once, when these come out, most of us end up buying them and loving them, and meanwhile the games themselves break records lol.

IDK why some people are mad. This is very clearly not Gen 8 or supposed to represent it. This is a very simple game that's trying to be as Pokemon Go 2 as it can be, while still representing some form of the original RPG series. The core team will have been working on Gen 8 for AT LEAST 3 years by the time it releases, which is fantastic. Right where it should be. That doesn't include the other people who have been missing since before Sun and Moon, who have probably been involved with planning and other things.

This game sounds great for what it is. IDK if it will be able to grab the original Go audience, but we will see.

I'm actually quite upset, more upset than I was when I learned that ORAS was ruined by the casual gamer market and felt miserable during my entire time with the game. Here's a rundown of my whole reactions to the game, since I actually was pretty hyped at first until just now.

Pre-reveal: "Oh goodness, a kanto remake? Urgh, well, I grew up with Yellow and that was great, but it wasn't that long and it's not that fun to play. FRLG were the hardest in the series though even though the lack of a pre-GSC Johto was a huge mistake. Maybe they'll fix that in these games and also add the national dex they cut from Gen VII for some stupid reason.

During Reveal, initial trailer: "Oh shit this looks freaking gorgeous! Very exciting and perhaps a return to form after being in the dark age of Pokemon games for nearly 5 years now. Hopefully Pre-GSC Johto or at least something cool and new will happen, right? I wonder how Espeon and Umbreon will be handled! The Pokeball looks like a modern Pokewalker, the Pokemon Go game is already a great way to exercise and catch mons, and the potential for a great post-game with national dex or Johto stuff is there! I can also ride on my beloved Articuno!

Upon learning that there's no wild pokemon battles: "Oh shit, this may mean legendaries are actually hard to catch... And there's probably gonna be some more trainer battles and thus it'll be akin to the GCN RPGs in that regard, right? Sounds interesting..."

Upon learning that the games are $60: "wait what i know they're console games but they better be beefy in that case Kanto's only 10-20 hours long at max and only a bit more to catch the 151, but if there's a national dex or a battle facility it won't be too bad I guess

Upon learning the game only focuses on Kanto and Alolan Mons: "Wait fuck no GF stop before you crash and burn you have the chance to fix the sin FRLG made ages ago with pre GSC Johto it's TO THE LEFT OF KANTO TURN LEFT"

Upon learning that by "Alolan Mons" they mean only the alolan forms of the original 151 GF pandered to so many times we've lost count: "Fuck no nononononononon but at least it would make online battles interesting and a post-game facility requiring a bit of a different strategy to complete compared to the past"

Upon learning that they chose the 151 mons to pander to the Genwunners/Early Go audience: "See, everyone thought I was insane when I said that casuals and Genwunners were slowly ruining the franchise, like with XY having too many Kanto refs and ORAS being dumbed down beyond belief and made into the Sonic 06 of the franchise but nobody believe me! Still, at least there's a chance it'll be fun with online friends."

Upon learning that Gen VIII is in late 2019: "That's great! If they're working on it since before the switch launched, that means these games can be excellent and fantastic and not a rush job like Gen VI, but with how SM still lacked a national dex despite nailing other aspects I'm very worried... But at least this will be a good holdover game."

And finally, upon learning that there's no online: "FUCK YOU GAMEFREAK, You somehow made me more pissed off than when you ruined hoenn and made my heart break into trillions of pieces and hate you for two years before SM leaked and gave me some hope for once. How the fuck do you not include online in a game that desperately needs it, especially if the game's so short and is SIXTY DOLLARS TO BEGIN WITH."

Seriously, good god... Spinoffs being different I don't mind, PSMD is my favorite game of ALL TIME for crying out loud and that's a spin-off, but I still remember how the Pokemon fanbase rebelled because it wasn't Z and they missed out on a damn good story and the best Pokemon game on the 3DS because they can't handle a year without a main series game. And I guess because of that instead of taking a gap year and going all into Gen VIII, they're working on a spin-off that doesn't even manage to include fucking online so I can play with friends considering how it's a HOME CONSOLE GAME or even do things that could make true fans happy by throwing them a bone for the post-game while making the main game set for the newcomers/genwunners. But this... It looks fucking gorgeous, so good, yet they somehow managed to screw it up. Even Colosseum/XD without much of being able to catch more than 40/50 pokemon had a beefy post-game with Mount Battle and the rewards it included. There may still be hope for that but knowing GF lately I doubt it, and if they do include it, they probably won't include easy ways to level up your Pokemon.

Never change Gamefreak. Might as well let Spike Chunsoft develop Pokemon games from now on, they clearly do a better job than you at storytelling and making more engaging experiences overall, even though I think the PMD series should stay ended with PSMD due to the climatic story, I can't help but feel using their other spinoff partners except for ambrella to work on games like these would work better.

I eco this meltdown. No online is Outrageous.

Meh, this is an easy skip. I never expected a Gen 8 in the first place, but this is more barebones than I ever imagined.

If Nintendo doesn't bring out Fire Emblem, then it will be a pretty disappointing year.

I suppose it still sells millions because it's on Switch and it has Pokemon in the title.

Oh wow, it looks cool! I'm very interested by the co-op and Pokemon GO integration. That pokeball accessory looks freakin' sweet, too.

Hopefully you can evolve your companion Pokemon. I need to wander with a Vapereon!h

Well seeing as Game Freak said it's a "core rpg for all" I beg to differ. A casual mainline game yes but still a mainline game.
Yeah core rpg for all, is different from "Mainline game" This isn't some thing where the gb and gameboy advance had compatiablity issues . If they wanted this game to be a mainline game at the very least it would have been tied to the same standards as the other games and have a pokebank feature. But no it doesn't it's tied to pokemon go only

But I deleted Pokemon Go ages ago...

So it's going to be like Pokemon Yellow then? Eight gyms, 4 gym leaders with all of the added gimmicks?

Everyone's freaking out about not having online and I'm just sitting here thinking I'm ok with it because I've never used online apart from Wonder Trade. It's not a good decision anyway.
