Listen man, the dude released 7 full length albums before this.

I have no problem with him trying something new/experimental with this release roll out. Releasing 5 albums in the span of five weeks with some of the biggest names in rap with your name attached to them is nothing short of a huge feat. Who else attempted something like this? No one.

That's why it's interesting.
Maybe no one attempted it because it's hard to make 5 great albums in a short amount of time. It's a cool gimmick, but not really impressive since some of these songs sound like demos/rough drafts.

Thank god..

Would rather hear about his mental health issues, would probably explain his political views.

Mod title edit is trash, I don't think it's necessarily worse than TLOP.

Understandable, but I wish he would elaborate. It's crazy to me a person friends with Talib Kweli, John Legend, Common, Pusha T, etc. would have said what he said. Hopefully eventually he elaborates, and possibly clears up what he said/what was going on.

Everyone complaining about 7 tracks, wait until after the last of these albums releases and Kanye tweets:

Season 1 is done

Season 2 August

Loved it on first listen. 7 songs worth of different Ye vibes, and nicer lyrics than TLoP by far. Lacking a standout single, and I wanted some more, so I hope there's some stuff that grows on me. I can already predict at least two skips.

Still reading through the hot takes in this thread...

I'd take TLoP's best 7 over this album, though. Since that's about how many of the songs I still listen to. Kanye's not immune to having skippable tracks, even if they're good.

Gotta remember Kids See Ghost is a collab not just a Cudi album. So I'm fine with 7 songs since they are releasing so close to each other

For me even if it's amazing, 20 odd minutes of new music isn't enough. It's like half of a meal. Give me at least 40 minutes. I want new albums to feel like an event.
Daytona and Ye plays actually pretty well back to back.

Ye and Kids See Ghosts could probably be one full length album if KSG ends up good.

if Ghost Town is any indication of KSG, then my ass is not prepared.

It's relatively the same.
Is it? With that big ass warning at the top of the OP and your opinion on the album in the title? (or maybe someone else's opinion, IDK)

Maybe it's the Cavs game that still has me shook, but I think it's lame to change the OT like that after the fact.

The "yikes" beat is tough af. "Yikes" and "No Mistakes" are my favorites by far. I really don't understand the "Ghost Town" love here. Some of those vocals are real uneasy on the ears

Jesus fuck what the hell was this? I like the second half of I Thought About Killing You. I really enjoyed Ghost Town. Violent Crimes is fine. The rest of it? Throw it in the garbage. Especially the song All Mine. Seriously, the fuck was that?

People doing definitely rankings of Kanye albums when the album hasn't even been out for a day are out with some scorching hot takes.

the whole "YOU ONLY LIKE IT BECAUSE ITS KANYE" thing ITT is so contrived. seriously, maybe consider that some people like it because they...think it's good?

the talking down to people who like this is seriously wack. feel free to hate the album, but don't put down people who like it smh

The more I sit on it, the more I enjoy the album.

Back half is stronger than the front half, with All Mine and Ghost Town being the standouts. I liked it, even though it felt like a watered down 808s.

My rankings are:
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Late Registration
808s & Heartbreak
The College Dropout
Ye
Yeezus
Graduation
The Life of Pablo

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is my favorite Kanye album. Just because it felt like the perfect balance. It was raw, yet polished, and it had a great rollout.

It felt like the perfect hip-hop concept album. Artistically, from the album covers, videos, production, it just feels better than everything else. Yeezus is dope too, though.

I guess I didn't see it like that. That bar said something like imagine how it would feel if they caught him on a wild day so wouldn't that mean he was aware/levelheaded when he was on TMZ?
I don't think he is though? He contextualizes his comments in relation to his mental disorder, but still almost feels like he embraces that type of behavior while acknowledging the consequences it may have. I don't sense a regretful tone, especially with the George Jetson/Jefferson line right after that: he still believes in his BS, but his ways of expressing them get questioned.
This is a reasonable perspectives too, it could just be him expressing self-righteousness.

I think I've barely scratched the surface of the story so ima definitely have to revisit all this. Although, generally, I would not expect Ye to swing the humility-narcissism pendulum completely in the humility section either.

I'm liking the album a lot more listening to the official version on Apple Music. Every song was good-great besides Ghost Town, it was not bad but there's something very off about the singing and mixing, maybe Kanye can give it the 'Wolves' treatment.

I don't know about ye yet. It's not in danger of being at the top.

I almost like no more parties enough to put tlop above graduation on its strength alone

On "Wouldn't Leave," Kanye repeats his claim that slavery was "a choice" and alludes to the fallout from comments like this. But he never clarifies his line of thinking, essentially skirting complex discussion about politics altogether. Coming from the same artist who made such bold statements about race with "Blood on the Leaves" and "New Slaves" two albums ago, ye leaves something to be desired on this particular front.

Weird. It's like he made an entire album out of the Ultralight Beam sessions.
It's decent. I could see some songs growing on me.

TCD and Yeezus still the reigning Kings of the West discography.

The 070 chorus on Ghost Town is dope. That's the only thing that really stood out to me on the album.

It's been a long ass time since I enjoyed something with Cudi on it too.

So at the end of the day the G.O.O.D. Fridays came back on album form.

Since every album release from G.O.O.D. will be on Fridays.

Took two listens for it to click. During the live stream, didn't really feel the the first 3 tracks, but it got better, and the last two tracks amazed me. I love the whole album. Ghost Town, and Violent Crimes still the best tracks on this. Some of his best work.
