I didn't know where else but I guess here is fine?
Thought I'd post my impressions after just beating the game. From my twitter (No post game yet but I *did* enjoy it despite the crits I give :D) :
Just beat both DSotMs. Spoilers if you don't know what that stands for.
510 moons total. I'm glad you are able to collect the 500 before having to backtrack. The last obstacle course was a blast. I especially liked that you would come out next positive on coins per run unlike the challenges in the Dark Side of the Moon where I probably spent 200+ coins clearing everything. Seeing all the NPCs cheer you on as you attempt the final course was so cathartic.
Absolutely cannot wait to collect every moon. 0 fatigue for me. This game has been such an absolute joy to play. Nintendo has somehow distilled the absolute essence of playing a video game and this game squeezes out every last drop. I feel like I haven't enjoyed every second of a game (and to this degree) in a long, long time.
In Mount Volbono (Luncheon Kingdom), one of the Moons and the second Golden Turnip is on a high location that doesn't seem to be reachable through normal means. Note that I have already gotten the Moon for all three Golden Turnips, but I reached the second one by using some advanced jumping. To elaborate, I used Hammer Bro (they jump surprisingly high!) and then getting out of their body, then used a wall jump and then dive to the platform above. What is the normal way to get to that place?

Also, I finally got the Jump Rope Genius Moon, which was harder than I thought, but the moped helped me with that one. I also solved the 100-point Vollyball game thanks to using Cappy while Mario is sleeping outside the court. It's not the most elegant way to get the Moon, but if it works, I will use it.
Surprised to see that Mushroom Kingdom is here, and that the painting leads to Yoshi's House (more like an island, if you will)! It's also funny how the fanfare played is Super Mario 64's one, and how it's a Star instead of a Moon! I appreciate that they made this location very beautiful, with the lush green landscape making up the environment.
Also, I have a post-game question for someone who hasn't done post-game, since there is something I observed but can't confirm yet:
On quite a few of these Art that you are supposed to take a snapshot to refer to, will Poochy appear? He's there in some of those pictures so I assume that he will appear later on.
Also, spoiler title's pun is somewhat intentional.
Oh right, I didn't think about escaping the Lava Bubble after launching from the cannon! That made a lot of sense now that you mentioned it. Still, I am glad I know how to do the Hammer Bro route because one of the Hammer Bros destroyed that turnip on the way and I have to retrieve it again.
So many posts in this thread. I've finished the main game and to be honest I'm really disappointed in the length; far too short. Is there any actual story or new worlds post game? I know there's a DarkSide but I've died on the top boss so far so I don't know if there's much of substance after that. I've gone back to other worlds and it's just a collectathon over the exact same areas which I find monotonous.
I'm pretty sure you have to view the hint and then directly head for the spot hinted at. It's unintuitive because it doesn't stay active between play sessions, and the treasure doesn't appear at all until you've
I had a great run in the Cascade Kingdom today, but my question follows:
There's a moon way up on a floating island up there, i can't find any kind of launching pad that will get me up that high. Or is that a painting entrance?

Luigi not showing up in games that lack "Bros" in the title. The one exception is Galaxy where he makes some cameos. But he doesn't appear in 64, Sunshine, and now Odyssey. Idk why Nintendo does this. I also find myself wondering where he is.

Note that you can jump out of anything at any time. Even if you're on what seems like a locked animation. i.e. the cannon shots in Luncheon and almost any electrical wires. (But not all. Namely ones that take you from one section to another I believe.)
I have 650 moons, and just love randomly choosing a world when I feel like a break and finding some moons. I just went back to wooded and literally discovered like 5 new areas, and got 25 new moons. Its insane how dense the levels are, and how much stuff is packed in. I literally missed like 70% of the game my 1st time through, and its been such a joy having so much to find and do in the post-game.
Beat the game a couple hours ago. Solid ending. Overall, really good game, but I don't know, there was just something lacking compared to Galaxy. Maybe if I went back to Galaxy, I'd realize it's not so good.
Hoping the post-game content takes this from a really good game to a great game.

He was playable 100% in the two Galaxy games. In Galaxy 1 you could play as him in any level after you beat Bowser. In Galaxy 2 he could be unlocked earlier before you finish by finding him in a few levels.
Odyssey should have had Luigi as an unlock. I am disappointed he's not. A total Luigi takeover mode would have been a great twist. Find him in the post-finale levels and unlock him and the ship is painted green. If they wanted to go even further, had some Moons that only Luigi could get. I just hope they're saving him for a sequel.
The 64 and Sunshine thing still makes Luigi fanboys cry. Especially since he was supposed to be in 64. I still don't get why he wasn't invited on vacation in Sunshine. At least the Galaxy games made up for it. Then NSMB gave him his own time to shine when you finish the game. However in NSMBWii and NSMBU he was only playable as a second player. You were locked to Mario if you were only one person. Fuck that shit, Nintendo. At least 3D World remedied this again by letting you be anyone at any time with the ability to change anytime you wanted to between levels. But now he's out of Odyssey, I'm sad. Luigi DLC please! Let me start a new game + with Luigi and find all the Moons all over again using Luigi's physics.

I forgot that he featured even more in Galaxy 2. I remembered you could play as him in Galaxy 1, but it's not a super huge role since it was only post-game.
I guess it's mainly just 64, Sunshine, and Odyssey that don't feature Luigi at all. Idk why. Luigi physics in Odyssey would definitely be crazy -- just think of all the insane jumps you could do.

Couldn't agree more with this post. One of the only games I've played in my life where I know for a fact I will 100% everything, and will love every second of it. I have actually never bothered to 100% any Mario game before this one.
Finished darker side of the moon today, it was the easiest of the end game challenges in 3D Marios, I think I would have ranked it above Galaxy 2s last level and Champions Road when it comes to "fun" if it wasn't for the section with the bird, that one took a lot of trial and error to get the timing right and messing up was an instant death... Doesn't help that it's towards the end of the level either.
Did I miss something with the scarecrow at the end? I threw the hat but it just flashed back to the Thank You message
Took my time with the story, finished yesterday. The end sequence was great, though not very challenging.
I think I'm in the minority when I say that some of the worlds weren't that good, the forest area with its bizarre music choice, the snow kingdom that was just flat out boring to explore and the water kingdom that barely had any platforming going on. All in all this is a mario game with the least focus on challenging platforming and sometimes it felt like a chore to just roam around looking for collectibles without any challenge.
Despite the lack of challenge I enjoyed the creativity and the polish this game offered, it's much better than 3D World, but for me the Galaxy games offered better challenge, better music, bosses and themes.
Not the same kind of revelation as BotW was for me at all.
Did I just screw something up? I'm at the endgame and bought a Power Moon x10 in a shop multiple times. I thought there would be a limit and that the shop would run out of inventory, but I ended up spending all of my coins. Now the game says that I have 30 of the same Moon.

IMO, it's impossible to compare it to BotW. BotW has just about everything available to the player at the point where Link leaves the Plateau. Odyssey still have most of the game content locked when the credits rolls, and the full content is unlocked waaaay later than the credits.

You didn't screw anything up, it's what you have to do if you want to max out the Odyssey at 999 moons. You actually have to buy a lot more if you want to do that.

Alright, it's a relief to know that I didn't mess anything up. But it begs the question of why the game bothered to include 999 Moons if a few dozen are repeats, haha.
I had the chance to try this before release at the Milan Games Week, now it's time for the real deal as Amazon is supposedly shipping my console and game today. Any special tips for starting the game or should I just jump in mostly blind and enjoy the ride?

Essentially so that people who finished the story with few moons can buy their way into the postgame content if they'd rather do that that go moon-hunting.
Thanks for the tip, that's probably the opposite of what I would have done. I usually try and do everything in an area before moving to the next, only to realize later that with new moves, more health or whatever I would have gotten them easier later anyways, not to mention some areas which might have been blocked altogether. I've been mostly on a media blackout so I wasn't aware how one should approach the game, but I'll keep this tip in mind, thank you! I'll let you guys know what I think after playing some after work.
Has any of you used the NES or Gameboy filters in your snapshots? I felt like the NES filters don't do the game's visuals justice due to applying a rich and colourful world through the lens of a more limited palette. I do find the SNES filter alright since the colours are still good to see.

I found the platforming more challenging than 64, which is by far the easiest Mario to 100 percent and also had the least actual platforming and enemies.
To me, this is easily the most varied of the 3D Marios too and Mario's mobility and traversal options are phenomenal.
