I'm still kicking myself for cancelling when it was time to design my order- I just felt it wasn't financially in the cards.

If anyone lives in the Harrisburg, PA area, I'd love a quick ride to experience my lost dream :(

I absolutely never use a touchscreen while driving since you can't do that without taking your eyes off the road.

But but but...:

Even if I wanted to zoom in out or move around the map, all I have to do is twist clockwise/counterclockwise to zoom or tilt the controller in the direction I want to move the map.

Why would you want to zoom in our out or move around the map if you aren't planning on taking your eyes off the road?

49k (Long range Battery + Premium upgrade package) + 5k (enhanced auto pilot) + 1k (color blue) + 1k (delivery fee) = 56k + ~6k (sales tax + personal property tax + registration) = ~62k

Ugh to the 6k for sales tax + personal property tax + registration. Even a base/bare bones model gets bumped up from $35,000 to about $41,000. The tax credit would then bump it back down to about $33,500 (take this with a grain of salt as I'm terrible at math, lol). The big question mark for me is how much I can get for my Challenger as it has never had any major damage but I had a bad string of luck with the car in that it's easily the most scratched up and dinged up car I've ever owned. What I get for my car will definitely play a part in what upgrades I get (though I'll probably pay the 1k to get a red paint job no matter what).

if you're using a physical controller you can grab it without looking, make an adjustment and then glance at the information presented.

If you're using a touchscreen you need to pay more attention - look at the screen before pressing anything, find the location of the button, then press it. Possibly even continuing to look at the screen while you adjust in case your finger slips off the virtual button because there is no physical object to hold onto

Some other cars do have touchscreens now but they tend to be high up on the dash so you can still see where you're going, but even they aren't ideal IMO.

My car (Mazda 3) and several others have a touchscreen AND a little tilty/twisty knob in the center console for going through menus. I absolutely never use a touchscreen while driving since you can't do that without taking your eyes off the road.

With GPS and radio, you don't have to focus the center of your vision onto your finger tapping a screen while the car is shaking. Even if I wanted to zoom in out or move around the map, all I have to do is twist clockwise/counterclockwise to zoom or tilt the controller in the direction I want to move the map. There's no comparison in functionality, literally the only time a touchscreen makes sense is when I'm typing an address.

So I guess you've memorized the entire menu tree and selections within when you use the tilty/twisty knob, to ensure you never take your eyes off the road eh? You don't look when changing radio stations? So you twist with the knob to zoom or move around the map but I guess I don't see the point since you aren't ever taking your eyes off the road to look at the screen, I mean why zoom or move around the map if you aren't going to look.

Just FYI: The Model 3 reservation cancel process was painless. Filled out a form online on Sunday, and then as of Tuesday morning the refund had been deposited in my bank account.

Still sad about it. :-(

Think of it this way, if you want to get one down the line when it makes more sense, they'll be better at making them and potentially with less or no wait and more options for you to choose from!

I actually bought a new Bolt Saturday lol. I've been spending too much money on gas and our '13 Leaf doesn't quite cut it for my commute. I booked a test drive Friday, showed up expecting to hate it and only be able to drive around the block a couple of times. Instead, the dealer was surprisingly nonchalant about the whole thing and let me take it for the weekend. The people I were in contact with were also more EV savvy than I'd imagined.

Much to my (and my wife's) surprise, we loved it so much we purchased it. I honestly didn't expect to buy a GM product ever, or even entertain the idea of messing with the dealer. Somehow I came away pretty impressed with the whole process.

We're a two EV family now (and kept the old gas car for backup) and most likely will be for quite some time if not perpetually lol. So I figure we can get a couple of years out my wife's Leaf and revisit the Model 3 (or used S) then. Knowing Elon the S and 3 will have matured quite a bit by then.

With a controller wouldn't you need to locate the cursor first in order to know what is selected? You can memorize the menus and such but if where you think the cursor is gets out of sync with reality then that seems like it could be even more distracting and confusing than a touchscreen. I haven't used a modern controller in a car to be honest but the little joysticks used a decade ago in Mazdas and Infinitis were awful.

Also note that many automotive touchscreens are resistive, which is fine if you're jabbing at buttons but they don't support multitouch and tend to feel unresponsive compared to the touchscreens used on your phone and in Teslas.

I don't fully get the hate. I mean it would be better if they had a HUD, but a HUD would be better in every car. The only real complaint I have about the set up is the directions are on the far right part of the screen. You do get audio cues but if you want to see what's coming up in the next few instructions, it takes your eyes off the road quite a bit. All other functions in menus are things that you don't mess around much or you would do it prior to driving. I suppose the speedometer being over to the right takes some getting used to, but other cars (ex Prius & Mini) have had their speedometer centrally located without much fanfare. Looking down at a speedometer is really no different than looking to the right regarding taking your eyes off the road.

Not much. Expect to hit 5k per week at the end of June. Best selling mid-sized luxury car. Update to autopilot coming in the next week or so. Profitable by Q3.

how are you drivers adapting to the lack of a dashboard? I would definitely get a speedometer app and put in on my phone in front of me

Got my car back last week from the detailer. He performed paint correction and applied a ceramic paint protector. My Forester has Opticoat Pro on it, but for the 3 I went with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra plus EXO V3. The coating seems to be even more hydrophobic than the coating on my Subaru.

Not a nice shot, but just a pic for content.

My coworker brought his Model 3 in today. I gotta say it looks much better in person. Looks really slick inside and out.

Delivery on mine in a few hours :)

lol, I suppose missing most of E3 so far and being off the internet to drive the car around says it all!

It's really freaking awesome!! It accelerates like a bullet and I absolutely love the minimalist design of the interior.

I really hope all The Rampening news and general positive financial talk allows Elon to pull a surprise and have my Model 3 deliver sooner than early 2019. Even Q4 I will be happy. Just dont think my current junker can survive another winter :(

Watching one highly polished Model 3 road trip Youtube video after another convinced me to put down a res. I wasn't even aware I was doing it until I was on the res page, pasting in my cc #. lol.

The wait is going to be agonizing, especially so for the all wheel drive, performance model. But that's the one I want.

If you actually are going to buy the Performance, you might be getting it very soon. They are prioritizing that one because it's the most expensive one and it should begin shipping out within a matter of weeks.

Will the Performance awd and the non-P awd come out at the same time? I was thinking it over last night and the premium on a P might not be worth it for me. The most important features to me are the long range battery and awd.

I would assume they will ship the performance first since it has the highest margins, but who knows how many people will want that. If they are making 5k a week I would guess they will knock through the backlog of people who want the performance model pretty quickly.

I used a Supercharger for the first time after using regular EV and home charging... HOLY COW!! I added 400+ km in 40 minutes. I was legit blown away. Cost was s reasonable $14C, it's a 25 min drive from my place but I'll be visiting often.
