Man...Things arent looking good for us. The fact they only showed a tech demo, and are still actively looking for engineers to help build the engine, looks like we won't be getting any news until next E3.
I was honestly expecting to see what Gears 5 showed for Halo. Ah well..
Edit* Not too say what we saw wasn't exciting. It looks like they are finally taking a risk and bring something new to the table. Not only that, but classic Chief and the music. And if the tech is actually like that in real gameplay, then my god I can't wait.

Looks like they pressed the soft-reboot button, which is what they really needed to do. I prefer waiting for whatever Halo Infinite is versus wherever they were going with Halo 5...

I think it's fine launch with the new Xbox. They said that trailer was in engine. No way Xbox One can handle that.

I like how Gears had only a little over a year to start working on Gears 5, and make it presentable at E3, and they were up for the task and showed us everything. A CGI trailer, gameplay, story. Whole shebang. Good job!

Gears 5 is running on an existing engine, that they don't have to program, support, or make, and all that grunt work is largely done by an outside studio (Epic)
Halo Infinite is on a new engine, which means they had to eat the time cost of making new said engine, which means the production timelines for a Gears sequel on an existing foundation on an existing known platform is gonna be a leeeetl different than a whole stack reboot.

343 is the DCEU of videogames. The games are just barely financially successful but the story is rubbish and the art-style is wholly inconsistent.
Engine looks great. I'm one of the guys who said 343 should take their time and build an engine or license one capable of competing with their contemporaries, so you won't see any complaints out of me.
I'd love to see a reimagining of CE built in this vein. Tell MCs original story of course, but also follow some of the story lines from "The flood" and also some new untold stories- this would be the avenue for showcasing the wildlife.

Exactly what I've been telling others.
Phil mentioned the new Xbox, which is bold. There's no way that in engine footage would run on vanilla Xbox One.
Definitely feeling like this is going to be open-world and service based, which could be an interesting next step for the franchise that does make sense considering its sandbox roots. To me, the trailer really expanded on that feeling you go when first stepping out of the escape pod in CE, which was one of openness and exploration. It looks like their going back to re-explore that aspect of Halo, and that we're going to get a soft-reboot of CE that takes Halo in a whole new direction. I mean just look at what Frankie said in the other thread:
That, in addition to the trailer saying the game with take place in 2560, shows they're going to use that two year gap to curtail the story to the needs of what this new game requires to succeed. I'm pretty hopeful about this, even if it does take Halo in a newer direction.

I miss Halo. Was really hoping for either a MCC to PC announcement, or a trailer announcement for 2019, or, a surprise 2018 reveal. Really let down to have to wait until 2020 for a new Halo game. really hope 343 get it right this time though.

I'd imagine any new engine they are building would scale well across hardware. the xbox one version won't look like this, but the PC build will.
Yeah it's pretty sad. Halo (FPS line) is pretty much the only reason I have my Xbox still and it's just been a shit show...

Yeah rewatching it, the game really looks like a nextgen game. That amount of tech used and in 60fps? yeah no way this is a XboxOne game.
