Yep. Crackdown ain't going up against giants.
Thing is, MS has Anthem marketing. They will have known the release date for sure and still, they went ahead with it.

I think Crackdown is staying feb 22. Which is stupid as hell, I thought for sure it'd be early Feb after Anthem's release date reveal. I'll be on Crackdown instead of Anthem, but I don't know what's up with MS obsession with sending games out to die.

Matt Booty on Crackdown 3

Polygon: Just for clarity then, it sounds like what you're saying is this ... The new VP role for Phil and obviously the financial investment from Microsoft speaks to why this game is being delayed. This represents a new level of investment with the intention to get something like Crackdown to be an IP on the level of Gears.

Matt Booty: Yeah, and what I'll say there is we feel supported to do the right thing.

Polygon: Right. So with the past two years of Crackdown 3 demos we've seen the campaign mode. But, we haven't seen the online destruction mode stuff. Is that still part of the game or has focus been shifted to the single-player campaign?

Matt Booty: It is still part of it. We're not showing a lot of details about that here. We'll have more to show as the year goes on.

Basically everything I've already told you a few weeks ago. The delay was because the game received a significant boost in budget because of Phils new role. They want Crackdown to become an important franchise for them in the long run.

I believe Spencer hinted it during Inside Xbox today, not totally sure though.

For sure Phil implied they might be working on an existing franchise to invigorate like Gallagher did with TR at Crystal Dynamics.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a multi-game studio from jump. They really don't need "branded" studios any more than they have.

The question then becomes - are they buying Rufian, Sumo or Reagent? Just based on them buying PG (partially) because FH is a pillar for them as well.

I really hope they pull this off.

Back when Crackdown 1 released, it was a huge surprise hit for me. Instantly became a classic in my catalogue. Crackdown 2 felt like a rushed cash grab which was unfortunately.

With the popularity of Super Hero movies right now, I think the time is ideal to make a unique Super Hero style game like this.

Who said they were working on an existing IP?

When questioned about bringing on Gallagher, Spencer said...

When [Gallagher] left Activision we started talking about what he wanted to do next. I think he really loved his time with Crystal Dynamics and working on Lara Croft and Tomb Raider, kinda reworking some of that franchise. We were talking about some things in our past that might be interesting. Nothing to announce yet, but just some things he might want to work on.

Go to 1hr 48mins

More context: when it comes to the list of IPs they've had on offer for other studios to work on Perfect Dark has been on the list for a long time. Back in 2015, Ken Lobb said that they talk about rebooting Perfect Dark often and that it could be reimagined as a story-driven, third-person game.

The Perfect Dark universe has a lot to offer someone like Gallagher who liked working on Tomb Raider. It certainly has potential to be taken in a lot of directions in terms of genres, but I think a cinematic, third-person spy thriller seems like a no-brainer.

went to buy DmC since it was on sale, store page reminded me it's on game pass

with all 1st party games on game pass, and BC games not purchasable with credit, I have a lot of credit burning a hole in my pocket......

Ya weird to do that if they knew. I see crackdown as a game they're hoping to use as another big gamepass push. It seems they're going hard with gamepass taking big losses at the moment but thinking big of the future.
I can't believe I get to play sea of thieves and state of decay for just a dollar. (Gamepass is on sale for 1$ a month right now). They can't be making great money right now but I think it will be huge in the long run though. They're even tempting me to be a subscriber, and I love my physical media. But with gamepass, you feel like a sucker buying a full game now.

When I said Microsoft is the only first-party this E3 with a common and high-budget show, I got laughed at here. Now look at the results.

Nah. Game was not ready, and has had problems the entire development cycle.

Hopefully things do get the opportunity to work out now.

Never doubted that, because that's an obvious observation. Without the focus shift at Microsoft, Crackdown 3 would've been on the market already though - in a state that probably wouldn't have helped the franchise.

Eh...it's really not done, and MS basically decided it would never be canceled for PR reasons.

I think it would have been pushed back again no matter what.

That Sony conference made me appreciate the Xbox one even more. The complete lack of dates on any of those games, some of which they've been teasing for years, was super lame.

And glad to hear they want to get Crackdown right. Series has a lot of potential. Hope they can nail it.

I roll my eyes at people complaining about xbox's exclusivity labels. At least then I don't have to search around for platform info like after Sony's conference.

Control from remedy is confirmed for all platforms

Finally saw a press release for RE2 on Xbox as well

Nioh 2 ?? (At least PC?)

I really hope Ms never ever ever listens to the gaming sites that says they need to follow Sony... Each time they show their games it seems to go a step further from my tastes. I don't know how, but they managed to make even Spider-Man look boring, when it should be Sunset Overdrive turned up to eleven, though it was easily the best gameplay of their exclusives.

That short trailers from Remedy and RE 2 were more interesting than any of their long gameplay demos.

Feels like there is an overall creative strategy in Sony in regards to their first party games, they are all starting to blend in with one another. i hope Microsoft dont take that approach

MS has a large and talented Events team, and it showed.
I mean yes, the show itself was one thing, but even from a content perspective I think it wasn't even comparable. It all just seemed like a low-effort move by Sony. It was okay for what it was. The games all looked kinda the same(?) while technically obviously still pretty good.

There was a time where these Sony games would've LOOKED leagues ahead of Microsoft first party games. With Halo Infinite, Gears 5 and especially FH4 I really can't say this is the case this year.

The on the ground experience is certainly interesting, but it doesn't translate for a broadcasted show. That also affects content choices. It was a big misfire.

Still interesting that Microsoft is the only company to acknowledge next gen is coming. It doesn't mean much but I think it signaled that all the new studios for Microsoft will be launching their first titles there.

All 4 of sony's Games looked great but very samey. All 3 person action adventure games. Don't get me wrong I love those kind of games. But last of us 2, the samurai game and death stranding all look like they where made by the same studio.

Their e3 no offense made me realize how good Microsoft's was. And it made me realize how well of a speaker Phil Spencer is.

Am I wrong or was the only game with a release date Spider-Man?

Ya people bag on Microsoft's use of phrases like "work premier" and console exclusive" but at least I can tell if the game they show is a multiplat. I was worried as hell about remedy's game and resident evil till I googled it.

I feel like that samurai game, last of us 2, and death stranding could be next gen games. Or maybe only cross gen. No date give, no year, nothing. Kinda confused.

I definitely get the vibe that knowingly or not Sony's first party has all said "I guess third-person over-the-shoulder-cam is what we have to make". It's working for them now but I expect them to hit a wall soon. Audiences will see the formula that they've all adopted being over used.

Those 3 games are the most I've been impressed graphically from E3 so far. I mean FH4 this year, dynamic weather, dynamic seasons, GI, lighting, insanely detailed world,.............I need it now!

I'd like to see what a generation of Xbox looks like where they let their studios do what they want outside of some light guidance to make sure they're not making something too similar to each other or something being made by a third-party publisher. No general mandate of "everything must be GaaS" or "everything must be story-driven, cinematic experiences." Let them get excited by something and enable them to create it.

I think the studios overseeing the tentpole franchises will do right by their fans while taking risks to surprise them and the new studios who are creating new worlds, or reimagining worlds from the past, could make something special or even groundbreaking.

I guess Microsoft didn't think it was worth it, with how long it took Remedy to make QB and disappoint.

Or maybe Control was picked up by 505 before MS went on a spending spree? Regardless of the situation, I hope Remedy can find their groove in development and achieve success as they shake up their approach to making games.

Looking as Phil Spencer was always searching for the right studio to work in the Phantom Dust reboot, do you guys think any of the new studios would work in it?

I know it would be a terrible idea to force sonesomet onto your recent acquired studio, but maybe a small team at first and then partnering with a external studio or even The Initiative.

I know the Last of Us 2 will be a good game, but that gameplay slice was not that impressive. It almost reminded me of the gameplay sequence in the new Tomb Raider game where Lara was sneaking in the bushes jute like Elie in TLou2 demo. That and it seemed like she was super human. Just a strange conference from Sony. Only one game coming out this year that they showed with Spiderman. Glad MS hit a home run this time. It is good for the industry to have a strong MS and a Strong Sony and Nintendo doing what they do.

It was eerie seeing Remedy at Sony.

I am glad they are still 3rd party, but this game probably would have been exclusive on Xbox if the current initiative was years ago. Maybe they work with Remedy in the near future in another game.

Wow I'm so glad Control is coming out on Xbox One. Remedy are among the best in the business IMO. Quantum Break was a fantastic game. Control looks like Quantum Break 2.
