That shotgun blast is so awesome, rips all the flash off the zombies face, damn.

They really went to town on making this gory as hell (cop ripped in half, cops ripped open face, zombies arm falling off, shotgun ripping flesh off faces) and as a big zombie movie fan and RE fan, this is game just keeps getting better and better.

Now my hope is we get to see some Claire gameplay in the next segment. I bet the grenade launcher + acid rounds will make this gif look tame.

What if Claire's campaign is entirely fixed angles tho? That would make much more sense than having the option to switch the controls and the angles, at this point. I don't think it will, but it's an interesting thought.

I can't believe it. I've held out for a ps4 or Xbox for all these years and this one fucking game is going to tip me over the edge.

Bastard's.

Every time I come back to this thread something new is shown and I'm blown away by it. I was so scared for the remake before the trailer, and now I am so relieved and I just can't wait for January to come. THIS LOOKS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

I am trying to think of one single thing that bothers me with everything I've seen. I can't find anything.

REngine is probably the best thing that happened at Capcom.
Genuinely impressive stuff.

There's Main Hall music.

You call that a music .... ?

The game is almost deadly silence... what a shame with that unique atmospheric soundtrack and they decide to not to use it properly.

The Remake is perfection and everything I dreamed of and more and it's my most anticipated near release...... but the lack of music and specially the save room is just heart breaking for me :-(

I LOVE the OTS camera. This game is going to be something special!

BTW, are Capcom selling the "WE DO IT" t-shirts? I'd totally buy one.

I'm so fucking excited for this game. Easily the game of the show for me.

RE2 was one of my favorite games growing up and I put countless hours into RE4 so this is like the perfect combo for me. And really all I ever wanted.

Now if we could get Dino Crisis in the RE4 style...

So weird seeing people celebrate the violence here yet TLOU2 is making people angry.

I think it helps that the Sony thing was on-stage, so most people who don't really watch horror things were exposed to it. Frankly, TLOU stuff wasn't bad, but seemed tame to my standards. RE's gore is goofier visceral in some ways, but I can dig it.

I think the difference stems from grander exposure. RE is a horror series and most keeping up with it are in some capacity horror fans.

Oh, is this the same David that was saved by Meyer's sacrifice and felt guilty he didn't save him back ? Lore expansion !

I noticed that too, and as NPCs seem to play a bigger role this time, I bet we'll eventually meet David. Nice little build-ups to him at least.

Then you should get the Deluxe Edition and play with the Original Music Swap thing, so can play the REmake with the original RE2's soundtrack.

Norway but living in France
They have different type of gore.
TLoU2 is simulating realistic and bleak violence that you might see on the news and in war footage.
Resident Evil is simulating over-the-top horror movies.

News Bot pointed out to me that David was actually mentioned briefly in a RE2 file. Seem they've greatly expanded on him, though:

OPERATION REPORT 1

-- Operation Report --

September 26th
The Raccoon Police Dept. was unexpectedly attacked by zombies. Many have been injured. Even more were killed. During the attack, our communications equipment was destroyed and we longer have contact with the outside.

We have decided to carry out an operation with the intent of rescuing any possible survivors as well as to prevent this disaster from spreading beyond Raccoon City. The details of the operation are as follows:

Security of armaments and ammunition.

Chief Irons has voiced concern regarding the issue of terrorism due to a series of recent unresolved incidents. On the very day before the zombies' attack, he made the decision to relocate all weapons to scattered intervals throughout the building as a temporary measure to prevent their possible seizure. Unfortunately, this decision made it extremely difficult for us to locate all ammunition caches. It has become our top priority to recover these scattered munitions.

To unlock the weapon storage.

As stated earlier, it will be extremely difficult to secure all the ammunition. However, a considerable supply still remains in the underground weapon storage. Unfortunately, the person in charge of the card key used to access the weapon storage is missing and we have been unable to located the key. One of the breakers went down during the battle and the electronic locks are not functioning in certain areas. It has become a top priority to restore the power room and secure those locks.

Recorder: David Ford

-- Operation Report --

September 27th
1:00 PM. The west barricade has been broken through and another exchange ensued. We sheltered the injured in the confiscation room on the first floor temporarily. Twelve more people were injured in the battle.

Recorder: David Ford

-- Additional Report --

Three additional people were killed following the sudden appearance of an as of yet unknown creature. This creature is identified by missing patches of skin and razor-like claws. However, its most distinguishing characteristic is its lance-like tongue, capable of piercing a human torso in an instant. Their numbers as well as their locations remains unknown. we have tentatively named this creature the "licker" and are currently in the process of developing countermeasures to deal with this new threat.

Most of us are used to it here. There's a pretty decent portion of ND's fans that are pretty sensitive to this stuff... remember that controversy about Drake being a mass murderer in Uncharted 2 back in the old place?

Edit: It could be this too.
Violence against humans versus violence against zombies I guess ..

If they began production on this game when they did the "We Do it" Trailer. It's fucking insane they completed this game in about 2 years.

Granted, RE2 wasn't that long of a game (in fact, that's part of the appeal, condensed game design, high replayability) but that RE engine doing work.

I hope Capcom doubles down on it moving forward. No need to waste time and money fucking around with shit that's not going to materialize (Phanta Rei)

Interesting that they're going with the blind-but-great-hearing Licker thing from RE5.

It's sensible to find *something* tactically interesting about them, since in the original the main thing was that they're low to the ground so your auto-aim doesn't let you target them from afar (with the exception of Claire's grenade launcher frag rounds, which arc downward pretty quickly), forcing the player to engage up close. I suppose turning Lickers into sections where you have to be stealthy is smart if the game actually designs interesting scenarios around it; the RE5 licker hallway part is honestly pretty dumb, but if they treat it like RE4 Garradors/TLOU Clickers such that you end up in mixed-enemy situations where firing your gun will alert the much more dangerous Licker, that's great.

It's worth noting that the "mostly blind but sensitive hearing" thing was exactly the AI behavior given to the dogs in RE2 - they don't start aggressively chasing you until you get close to them *or* they hear you walking. This allows classic RE2 players to sort of fuck around with the dogs in the game by using the 'skate' behavior to quietly slide around (most notably in the RPD basement) without ever completing a full step and fully alerting the dogs.

Seemingly this same David has a note in RE3 as well.

6. David's Memo:

Location:
Dark Room with the old typewriter in the RPD.

Description:
My sanity is at its end....I still can't believe this is happening. We
lost another man yesterday. Meyer; one of our better marksmen. He saw me
panic once we were overrun by the zombies, but he came back to save
me. But when the time came to return the debt, I ran. I can still hear
him calling out my name. I can still hear the screams coming from
behind. The sound of his flesh being stripped from its bones. I was
afraid....terrified.... It's the 27th. The fight to stay alive
continues. I took out several zombies, who managed to break through the
barricades. Now I'm cutting through the chill with whisky, unloading my
Mossberg on anything undead. That shotgun's become a close friend of
mine. I've blasted many a zombie into fertilizer with it. We've lost 13
men as of yesterday. In 3 hours, we'll bicker over trivial things in the
meeting room. It's a total waste of time. When I finish this bottle, my
old friend Mossberg will be turning one lost body into fertilizer. Peace
at last. I can hardly wait.

I remember long ago someone theorized that the cop's body in RE3 (granted it's outside the RPD) where you find the shotgun and the lighter fluid near the start of RE3 is David.

This game will likely change that.

The RE Engine looks better to me than Panta Rhei no lie. That they managed to deliver such a robust proprietary engine with the ashes of that trainwreck in such a short turnaround is amazing to me. Square-Enix is still struggling to this day.

The AI behaviour is also in the original game. They would not attack you if you walked unless you were at close proximity to them.
