The only way I can see that happening is if Gilbert promises LeBron ownership of the Cavs after retirement.

He's getting old, so not surprised

I wonder if they have had his successor planned for a while now

It has to be the main reason why Messina isn't a head coach. There's no other reason why a playoff team like the Raptors couldn't convince him to take up the job. This is a coach who has not only worked years in the NBA under the greatest coach of all time but is also considered to be one of the greatest Euroleague coaches of all time. Most teams looking for competent coaching would be throwing the entire kitchen sink at him.

I don't really see any meltdowns if Lebron stays in Cleveland.

More a case of all the top teams sighing in relief because Cleveland is so beatable.

57% of people voted Kobe over Lebron on ESPN's First Take Facebook page.

Makes you think.

FZZ will get his wish in a monkey paw way.

LeBron isn't signing to go play with all these kids who are constantly (joking or not) in Twitter beefs. You think he wants to wait for the young guys to learn how to play in the playoffs? No chance.

He'll go to LA, PG will follow, and other veteran pieces will be traded for. The Lakers will be great next year, but won't resemble the team they are right now at all.

I'm predicting that your team goes from 10 seed to championship contender in one offseason.

That doesn't seem like hate to me.

To be honest everyone is being a little revisionist about Fultz. Going into that draft, most people thought he was a sure thing, and were mostly praising the Sixers for adding the perfect piece alongside Simmons and Embiid. If anything, it was Danny that was getting shit on for trading down after everyone was convinced Fultz was going to be the next great Celtic.

Yup, when the trade happened Ainge was an idiot for not getting enough in return for the guaranteed future all star Fultz and now suddenly there were multiple high level guys in the Sixers front office urging him not to draft Fultz? Where were these rumors last year?

People went nuts when the trade happened.

Fultz
Simmon
Embiid

It was gonna be huge, everyone was super excited (and terrified) literally no one thought Tatum was better, and when it first came out that Boston liked Tatum more the whole time no one believed it. So I'm with ya.

But also fuck Coangelo.

The Fultz thing is just so bizarre.

Whats the timeline of Fultz shooting struggles? Because when he could shoot, dude was the clear #1.

Some time after Summer League, where he hurt his ankle and didn't play the rest of it. He didn't shoot all that well in Summer League but looked good enough to be a high pick and get people like KD praising his pull up jumper. The few games we saw from him afterwards were a complete 180, he literally shot free throws like Noah.

There's a theory floating around that he might have hurt himself doing something stupid on his BMX or dirt bike. I definitely don't buy the Celtics fanbase theory that he was never hurt because the yips don't cause you to shoot like you have no upper body mobility.

Worth noting as a data point that Fultz's shot looked bad when he was working out for the Sixers, including 4/18 in an unguarded around-the-world 3-point drill. Don't think teams typically read much into the content of these workouts, but given that this workout was before the trade, maybe it should've given them pause. (It is also true that Fultz was 90% likely to be available with the third pick. There was no way Colangelo would've known that for sure, but this kind of intel-gathering and betting under uncertainty is a key part of the GM job.)

Hard to say whether people are just covering their asses or whether there were legitimate doubts. If high-ups had doubts, I doubt they'd feel comfortable airing them to the media given how intensely Colangelo scrutinized every bit of media coverage that wasn't unambiguous praise.
