We are happy with the increase. We're asking if all the rumors on various podcasts about Microsoft doing even more acquisitions are true. They just got five new studios.
Be happy with that giant increase, at least for now.

Hahaha daaaaaamn.
Microsoft buying 5 more studios confirmed.
Why is everyone so down on IG all of a sudden? The best KI season (season 2) was made by IG.
I'm very happy :pThey just got five new studios.
Be happy with that giant increase, at least for now.
Just for fun, lets list what are the "big" studios left that are not owned by a publisher?
CDPR
Insomniac
Gearbox
Platinum
Remedy
Bungie
Crytek too but they are not worth it. The Crytek that made Crysis died ages ago and anyone else left once they stopped paying their staff for months on end.
I think any other buyout will be another small / medium sized team. But honestly the NT buyout was so random I cant really see any "logical" buy.
Honestly Microsoft should pay WB and have NeatherRealm make KI vs Mk for next gen.Maybe it was unfair... but many just remember how lazy the last season was. However, that's probably MS fault limiting IG with the budget.
It be interesting if MS increases the budget and does a full sequel. Again, I just hope MS doesn't forget KI. MS doesn't have a true fighter anymore and KI did good IIRC.
I think WB will buy IO Interactive if Microsoft tries to. I would assume since WB has distribution and publishing rights for Hitman that they have first right of refusal.Don't forget Obsidian, Avalanche, Tell Tale, and IO Interactive. Quantic Dream and Kojima Productions are also big indie developers, but they are pretty entwined with Sony.
They are in talks with studios. If there would be something concrete, you would've heard about it on Sunday. Phil was clear on this. "We are not done" are the words he used in the GiantBomb interview. That's all we need to know right now.We are happy with the increase. We're asking if all the rumors on various podcasts about Microsoft doing even more acquisitions are true.
Insomniac would have been acquired by Sony long ago if they were selling.I mean sure. But equally MS have enough money to pretty much buy whoever they want if they are prepared to pay. Which seemingly they are.......
I think they'll take a hard look at Aurora44 after Ashen releases. I hope it does well because it looks great, and I think they would be a great addition. Pretty sure I heard at one point they're up above 100 people now.
It helps that Microsoft has their briefing at a sensible time so that Europe can watch live too. Unlike Sony at 2/3am :(
I think it looks pretty good right now. Textures and geometry have been improved but the online still remains a mystery. Now they have Inside Xbox so maybe they even skip Gamescom, who knows. I hope we see the destruction sooner rather than later. So guys, how do we feel about Crackdown? Was it worth delaying to February for? I guess it depends on two things.
How much further will they improve the singleplayer? It was clear in the trailer that it looked crisper, more detailed and a more fuller city. I wish we had gotten some actual gameplay footage after the show too but... Nope.
Secondly, multiplayer. What is going on with this? Still not a sign of it at all. Trailer solely consisted of SP. Can we still expect destruction and a fun MP? I do recall that their website was updated with info about MP and destruction and what not, so where is it?
I guess there's still Gamescom, which we don't yet know if MS will have a show. But I'm sure their games will be there, hopefully including Crackdown.
They have absolutely been talking with other studios. These are the five they went with for now. Some conversations continue, but I don't expect imminent additions.I'm very happy :p
Just was curious if you were hearing what Jeff, Jez and Patrick we're hearing also!
yes that one Other reasonIt helps that Microsoft has their briefing at a sensible time so that Europe can watch live too. Unlike Sony at 2/3am :(
Fits perfectly to LinkedIn, which lists 219.
Conclusion: about 70 - 80 devs are on a new Rare project.
Man, in my long gaming career I can't remember Rare ever being so large. And they are still hiring on so many positions.
Good to know. More acquisitions will probably happen in the future but not immediately is what I get from that. They have absolutely been talking with other studios. These are the five they went with for now. Some conversations continue, but I don't expect imminent additions.

They did a great job. Delays in release dates and lack of actual new exclusive games shown were what I expected to cause some disappointment, but they mitigated that effect on the overall show about as well as they could have.Makes sense!
Exciting times ahead.
BTW Matt, I might have missed it, but didn't catch your impressions from Xbox's E3 showing. What'd you think?
I think it also helps that PC gamers also have interest as all of the games on showcase will also be on that platform. It helps that Microsoft has their briefing at a sensible time so that Europe can watch live too. Unlike Sony at 2/3am :(
Forza Horizon 4 made up for any disappointment IMO.They did a great job. Delays in release dates and lack of actual new exclusive games shown were what I expected to cause some disappointment, but they mitigated that effect on the overall show about as well as they could have.
Damn thats good. Especially with them doing Mixpot.. Speaking of, anyone get their mixpot yet? All I've gotten is a REQ pack for Halo..
Yup, a lot of people were mad at the time again when it was announced but honestly I think they have the perfect timeframe. Good time for Americans and a decent time for europeans. It helps that Microsoft has their briefing at a sensible time so that Europe can watch live too. Unlike Sony at 2/3am :(
Honestly Microsoft should pay WB and have NeatherRealm make KI vs Mk for next gen.
Well, let's not forget who founded the studio and what they've done before...Beyond Square Enix and their mainline Final Fantasy games, are there any other Triple A JRPG's? Microsoft could fill a void in the market with Mistwalker and making Triple A JRPG's that would make their platform and Game Pass more appealing to JRPG fans.
That might be impossible. You're talking to a bunch of kids in a sugar rush (myself included)They are in talks with studios. Xbox just saw the largest growth the brand ever had. Let's realize that first.
There are already better mobile versions of solitaire, mahjong, etc.Fine folks of this comunity.
I had a vision. A vision of how MS can count Xbox Live MAU in the hundreds of millions.
Put, in the Xbox App for smartphone... all the Windows Casual Games for free.
Well, let's not forget who founded the studio and what have they've done before...
That might be impossible. You're talking to a bunch of kids in a sugar rush (myself included)
LolThey should buy Dominos Pizza and diversify the brand unlike ever seen before.
Feel True Power.
But they make you log-in with a MS account and are all conveniently packed in the same App? Hmmm... :pThere are already better mobile versions of solitaire, mahjong, etc.
They have absolutely been talking with other studios. These are the five they went with for now. Some conversations continue, but I don't expect imminent additions.
Man... Anyone else think Ms might be leaving the gaming business? They haven't expanded or even hinted at it in the past 5 minutes. I'm getting pretty worried now..That might be impossible. You're talking to a bunch of kids in a sugar rush (myself included)
This thread is now abit like
MS: We got 5 new studios
Era: Awesome! but
Makes sense. They're also going to buy Sony and Nintendo and then close them so they can destroy console gaming.Microsoft is actually buying as many devs as possible in order to then lay them all off so they can shut the entire gaming industry itself down.
You dont need mistwalker to make another blue dragon. They got a lot help finishing the first game btw.I recall hearing that companies like MistWalker were basically pushed away once Microsoft started getting games like Final Fantasy XIII on Xbox 360. This was way before MistWalker moved to mobile. I honestly have not followed Xbox stuff much this gen, so I was not even aware that there was any bad blood with Access Games, but it makes sense.
Well said, I agree. They did a great job. Delays in release dates and lack of actual new exclusive games shown were what I expected to cause some disappointment, but they mitigated that effect on the overall show about as well as they could have.
Speaking of Gears, have we gotten any info about Gears 5? The trailer shows some awesome new locations and enemies but is the new direction really happening or is that at the moment mostly speculation?
It would make sense if Rod wants to bring new things. He has said before that Gears 4 was a test for them, to see if they could make a proper Gears game. For 5 they can head into new directions if you ask me.
THQ Nordic owns 36 studios. I really don't think they need more studios. Even though they've recently been raising money for "a series of acquisitions".
I think by this point, they have more games in development than any publisher and could probably stand alongside the big publishers within the next few years.
106 IP. Even then, that 106 IP number is outdated considering this article was made before THQ Nordic acquired all of the Nickelodeon IP.THQ Nordic's acquisition of Koch Media and Deep Silver brings the number of total employees at the new company to more than 1,600 across a combined 36 internal and external studios. Together, the companies own 106 intellectual properties, according to a news release, including the game franchises mentioned above, as well as Agents of Mayhem, Risen and Galaxy on Fire.
THQ Nordic and Koch Media have a combined 50 game projects in development. Seventeen of those have been announced as of Dec. 31, 2017, while 33 remain unannounced. One of those unannounced titles is a new AAA game from Saints Row developer Deep Silver Volition.
Well, the Amazon listing has this as part of the description:Speaking of Gears, have we gotten any info about Gears 5? The trailer shows some awesome new locations and enemies but is the new direction really happening or is that at the moment mostly speculation?

It makes it sound much more open. I like Gears, but if this is the direction they're taking for campaign, I'll be super excited for it. The series desperately needed to evolve after 4, which isn't a bad game, but it didn't take any risks.Explore Sera. Skim across glaciers, sail over deserts and descend into sunken ruins to discover the largest and most diverse Gears world ever created.
