It always starts at the end of The Run. The buffer is probably there in case RK can't start it on time for whatever reason or The Run ends up having something dumb that takes a lot of extra time (like 4 tablets with jobs that can't reliably beat Omniscient).
Oh, okay didn't know that and the site was still saying tomorrow so that threw me off. In that case I might go ahead and try to start streaming this tonight.

I think so... I'm in the same boat with natural and forbidden run and my first job is Fire Crystal Time Mage. I assume I get to stay as four freelancers until I get to water crystal and see if I get a job I can use.

How long does it take a Job Fair change to go through on average? I've donated $3 to reroll my Wind Job and I obviously can't start until I know which class I'm getting.

The first crystal is wind (which you'll get automatically) so you should have another job though in a chaos run it might also be unusable in which case freelancer until you get jobs you can use

Yes, Chaos jobs are fully random. If you get something you can't use you just continue until you get it.

Varies, RK reviews them manually. He lives in Japan so that's with worth keeping in mind, regarding time zones.

I start a run every year and never get far into it. I like FFV a lot, but replaying games is tough for me.

So I've never played FFV before, but this FJF sounds like a fun time. Am I going to be way out of my element, or would it actually be feasible for a complete newbie? Would it be better to just play the game normally my first time then try to join in next year?

I beat FF5 for the first time doing 4JF, it's definitely doable.

It is feasible, but it would be unconventional. It is probably worth playing through the game normally first just to get used to its jobs and challenges. However, depending on which jobs you roll, a fiesta run isn't necessarily any harder than a normal playthrough. However, a fiesta run has the potential to be more frustrating if you get a bad bunch of jobs (such as opening with thief and berserker).

If you want to run the fiesta, I suggest sticking to a normal fiesta run or random. Stay far away from classic, natural or berserkerrisk.

Thanks for the advice! I'm not really sure about where to begin aside from hitting up the account on Twitter for my job (jobs?) assignment(s). I'll look into some guides and resources to try to understand how it all works.

Monk (yay!), Summoner (yay?) and now... Geomancer.
Well, at least now I'm going to be in a position to solve the ancient mystery: "what the fuck are geomancers for?"

But hey, I don't think I'm doing too bad so far, a decent fighter class plus some magic, seems fair for my first ever go at this.

I gave up early last year, because I remember my choices made me do the Fire ship with nothing but Berserkers. I managed, but ugh. Never again. Didn't even make it to Krile.

If I try again this year, I'll pick an easier set of rules to abide by

This is fun! I'm doing the fiesta for my first time. I also never played FFV to it's completion before.

So far I got Blue Mage, Summoner and Geomancer. My BLU's grimy goblin hands are helping me a lot lol

This seems to be a good guide to the fastest ways to get Blue spells.

http://shrines.rpgclassics.com/snes/ff5/bluestrat.shtml

It's a good guide but it misses the first opportunity to get Flash which is useful against Garula. If you give an ether to a headstone on North Mountain, it will be able to use flash. You can use Pond Chorus against Garula to turn him into a frog but he will eventually turn himself back so I like to use Flash so I can just attack him for the rest of the fight.

Summoner is a top 5 job IMO. Definitely yay.

Monk is bottom 5 though lol.

Just finished the fire Crystal. So far my jobs are Blue Mage, Summoner and Samurai. Samurai is a new job for me so I'm not sure what to expect from it but Blue Mage and Summoner is already puts me in easy mode for this game. At level 8 and about to head to the Library of the Ancients.

So with my earth crystal job in, looks like my final party for this run is Berserker, Ninja, Mystic Knight, and Time Mage. This'll be fun.

Yeah, now that I have found a few more espers like Shiva and Ifrit I'm starting to like Summoner. Hopefully there are also a couple of healing-related summons...
Geomancer isn't that bad either despite the randomness of it all.
People keep warning me about Monk. Maybe it sucks in the endgame but it definitely makes the early boss fights a cakewalk. Still, I'm sure I'll eat those words eventually, hah.

Monk is great in the first world. The more the game goes on the worse it gets.

I was level 5 with Time and Berserker in the exploding Karnak Castle.

Snagged the Ribbon, Main Gauche, and Elven Mantle and escaped (at level 8) with literally 1 second left, lmao.

These jobs are simply not quick at clearing the encounters here. Especially when you run out of MP.

I got... Thief. Time/Berserker/Thief. Surely the whole low level brigade won't get together again? Not that I would mind.

Thief is a rough start, probably the hardest. But it has some really good passives (no back attacks, and find passages for a newcomer) and there are some great items to steal.

Yeah, I mentioned that to a few friends already and they all said the same thing, haha. I was never a fan of the Thief job in the old FF games because that wasn't my playstyle, so I'll get to experience a new way of playing the game.

My first Four Job Fiesta was a couple of years ago and didn't beat it. This'll be the year. I can feel it. My wind job is white mage and boy it is hell for the non undead enemies. 5 hours in and I'm stuck at the water tower boss. I'm so close to freedom; I can taste it.

Alright so started my run and boy was it slow goings. Getting White Mage right off the bat sucked. The ship graveyard was really my only saving grace since everything is undead there, was able to grind a bit but after that it got really rough. Made it to a new town couldn't buy any new weapons (just the normal staff weapon) and the only equipment upgrade was a cotton robe... that gave me +1 defense on my characters. The sucky part is the random damage rolls that weapons like Staff's have. Sometimes I'll do single digit damage, other times I'll do 20 or 30, it really sucks and makes battles take forever. Plus thats when enemies are in the front row and I'm in the front row, at that point I'm taking a hell of a lot of damage too. The boss fight on the mountain where you get Hiryu took me over fifteen minutes. To start with the main boss was a caster which did work out well because I could silence her and everything was going fine until she summoned Forza who could nearly 2 shot my party and thats WITH protect on everyone. Plus he entered on the front row so then the caster was suddenly taking half the damage she was before but I needed to kill her because trying to keep silence up on her before she could either cast regen on Forza or Drain (which would 1 shot anyone in my party and heal her for like 150+ hp) so I had to take her down and while she only had like 250 hp at that point most of my attacks were doing 4-8 damage, nothing above 15 damage. It took several minutes to bring her down. Thankfully once I did Forza followed somewhat soon after since I had complete control over the fight at that point but man it really took awhile.

Thats pretty much where I stopped for now, really hoping I get a decent attacker on my Water crystal. I didn't end up streaming the start of this but I think I'll pick up where I left off and start streaming tomorrow.

I feel like white mage players really want to abuse the ship graveyard area since it has free healing and all the enemies are undead, so it's their easiest grinding spot before they get their second class

Alright, made great progress for day one (post work). My Pure Chaos team is Knight, Bard, Black Mage, Thief. Not a bad team at all. Bard is super useful for the super bosses and I'm sure I can make good use of Hero's Rime. I don't foresee any slight complications with this run. I might honestly do another harder run after...

I just got to barrier tower in World 2 so I'm doing pretty great time-wise thanks to Knight and VBA super speed. I will probably miss having two knights now that Thief is here but stealing is super useful in this game especially for the genji armor. Really forgot how much I love this game. Excited to continue my quest tomorrow after work

Sandworm down at level 9. What a pain. Bartz could deal 175-190 damage with the Moonring Blade, but it was hard to deal damage at all when I was being spammed with Wave Cannon Quicksand. Boiled down to RNG and it not using Quicksand, my winning attempt had it do a lot of normal attacks.

Going to need to steal a lot of Silver Bows to sell for rods. Beating world 1 at level 9 may be doable, rods should take care of Soul Cannon and Purobolos. Archeoaevis will have a 1HKO in Frost, but if necessary I can grind bows for flame rings. Manticore will also have a 1HKO but that's just a matter the Berserker deathing it before it kills me. Titan is probably the biggest question mark, since I don't think I currently have a way to avoid Earthquake. Unless Mute works, but I doubt it. Ah right, Titan is vulnerable to Stop. So yeah, that covers everything I think.

Levels so far:
I got to level 4 in the wind shrine before Wing Raptor.
Level 5 before Siren.
Levels 6, 7, and 8 came in the Karnak escape, from the Ribbon, Elven Mantle, and Main Gauche chests respectively.
Level 9 came from the Harvester encounter I got the Death Sickle from.
