This is the first time I've had time mage and I'm surprised so far by how many bosses can be hit with slow or gravity. Some even get hit with stop. Strong stuff. I'm used to ignoring that stuff in most games haha. Anyway, team so far is time mage, beastmaster, and samurai. Pretty good so far and I'm excited to see my earth job.

After a ton of grinding my white mages, I finally reached the water crystal and got summoner. White mages on wind was hell, but I feel so accomplished.

Natural run is as tough as I thought it would be =P Fighting Siren with one black mage (turns out she's immune to magic O.o) and three freelancers was... interesting! Had to grind to level 10 in the ship graveyard to brute force my way through. Onwards to north mountain =D

Soul cannon was a real pain with 4 geomancers. I actually game overed the first fight after a long battle where 3/4 of the party got hit by old status

Woohoo, water crystal unlocked! Red Mage is my new job, so... I guess that's good? I can stop buying so many potions now =P

Black Mage
Red Mage

Hoping the next two are niche jobs I would never use in a normal playthrough. Natural run so they have to stay freelancers for now.

Red mage is pretty terrible in a natural run where you can't mix it's dual cast with other mage classes

Haha! Dammit! I guess grinding will be the answer to every boss in this playthrough =P
Red mage drops off hard late game since it can't learn high level magic. Dual cast is a great skill, but when you don't have good magic to pair it with it obviously drops off

Also beating the fire crystal boss can be really easy for your party if you decide to break rods since the ice rod you can buy before fighting it can one shot it when broken

white mag as a starting job sucks but they get sooooooooooo useful later on you're going to forget the pain you went through.

I checked my page and got Blue Mage. Guess it's smooth sailing for me lol

I got White Mage for my Wind job, but I'll be doing a Natural run, so at least I'm not going to have to run 4 White Mages. I'll take it

Oh nice, I already have an ice rod!

I guess Lenna as my Red Mage will end up as a weak and squishy melee class then with some out of combat healing roles =/ At least she looks badass in that outfit!

Well, I'm going to try it this year.

Just signed up and got my first job of "Monk"

Being my first time I chose a Normal Run, but did select FifthJob.

We'll see how this goes!

Just so I understand... On a Normal run, I can use any of the jobs I'm assigned, but ONLY those jobs correct? So all my party members will be monks until I get the Water Crystal, at which point I will have 2 assigned jobs which I can switch between as I see fit?

What about Blue Mage makes it smooth sailing btw?
Incredibly versatile skillset. Dark Spark + L5 Death/L2 Old shenanigans (to be honest, L5 Death is just really good anyway). Mighty Guard, White Wind. They just have an answer for near everything.

Correct. You must always have at least one of every class you're assigned, so until you get the Earth jobs you'll be doubling up on at least one class. After the Earth jobs you'll have one character in each job at all times. But you can switch which characters have which jobs.

My Blue Mage is now joined by Berserker. That's going to be fun, trying to get enemies to cast magic on me while one dude is just fighting them all the time. :D

Just to be 100% clear: is it okay to switch jobs at any point or do you only get to do that once you have reached the final crystal with the earth jobs?

I currently have monk/mystic knight/dragoon on my forbidden run. Since dragoon is an earth crystal job I'll be continuing on with monk/magic knight until then

Beastmaster hates Berserker a lot more than Blue Mage.

And Blue Mage solos the game easily. I'd put it above Chemist as the single best job.

Just finished the Battle at the Big Bridge bit!
God this is so fun. I should have tried this years ago.
So, I ended up with Monk, Summoner, Geomancer and now Samurai. Which is fine so far but healing might be a problem later on. Can't believe nobody was selling hi-potions back on World 1, hah.

Summoner is good and MP is not a problem yet, the Samurai's gil toss ability is pretty crazy and Geomancer can be surprisingly useful in spots. They just automatically drown the enemies in swamp areas, that's brutal. One of my characters has already mastered the job though.

Biggest hurdle I've had so far was the robot sentinel thingy guarding the flying fortress. Didn't have my Samurai job then so I had to do some grinding.

I've had both of these now and I'm not a fan of either tbh. The good stuff (Mighty Guard and White Wind) is locked behind another job's mechanic.
Chemist is amazing, though. It's ability to revive, restore mp, and render characters immune to elements are all incredible. That is just a fraction of what it can do, too.

It's ability to equip the healing staff too, which covers like 70% of your healing needs.

Fun fact:

Did you know that if Lenna/Faris are alive, the enemies in the Torna Canal (squids and octopi) will only attack them?

Yeah.

That's a very surface level look at what the Blue Mage can do, neither of those come to mind when I think of the utility the Blue Mage has. Level 5 death is insane when combined with Dark Spark and Level 2 Old (which is useful in its own right). Death Claw sets enemy HP to a single digit and paralyzes them. Goblin Punch has a surprising amount of uses, whether it's making use of Excalipoor or a weakened Brave Blade, or just row-ignoring physical damage. Flamethrower costs very little MP and is more powerful than Fira, albeit only single target. Missile is literally Graviga with a lower MP cost than Gravity. An excellent assortment of ailments to set (Blind, Toad, Mini, Old/Sleep). Magic Hammer can also cheese some fights by rapidly draining enemy MP.

Plus the excellent equipment access and well-rounded nature.

Never liked level dependent skills. Also haven't been hit by a Goblin Punch all game so there's that. I guess Missile has its uses, but it has like a 50% hit rate(?) and doesn't work on most bosses.
Berserkers all the way.

Bought too many Thunder Rods for Soul Cannon. Forgot that it was MT'd when I tested the damage so after the launchers died it doubled.

Probably need to steal a lot of Silver Bows to buy some flame rings to beat Archeoaevis. Probably not four, but at least two. I imagine I probably also need to get another Death Sickle and run two Berserkers. That might put me at level 10.

I've been playing with a randomizer, and it's been interesting. I set it to keep the jobs' commands the same (randomizing that includes swapping out !Fight, so otherwise I might end up with a Wind Crystal job that has literally no way of dealing damage), but the abilities they get on level up are shuffled.

So my jobs so far are Black Mage, Red Mage and Geomancer, but various abilities I've gotten from them include Dance (one of my favorites), GilToss, lv5 Time Magic, and Animals, but I'm not getting any Black Magic or Red Magic upgrades.

It also randomizes loot from various sources. So I got a useless bow and harp early game, and currently have some sweet RunningShoes and Mirage Vest. Also, Crew Dusts were dropping tents, so I have like twenty of 'em. Also, apparently stats are tweaked randomly. The only one I really noticed was when Gigases kept trying to use Aero but didn't have enough MP to cast it, which was a cute little surprise.

It's fun: the uncertainty is cool. Not knowing what ability I'll get after I level up classes, the possibility of getting something broken out of every chest. But it definitely feels easier than a standard Fiesta run: lots more options, and at least in the early game the loot is better overall.

Took down Archeoaevis and barely got touched. Getting two flame rings was definitely over-preparing, I only got hit with one blaze and no frost.

Chemist@Earth. Gilgabot is trying to deny me.

Finished world 1 at level 9 as planned. Including the Gaia Hammer steal. Need to steal lots of turtle shells and even more bows to sell to stock up on items in Lix.

My final job for forbidden is
oracle, which alongside necromancer was one of the worse options I could see for the gba job

Also I have no fucking idea how I get past omniscient with my current party which has no access to magic attacks or berserk infliction.

Fire job is Bard, to go along with Black Mage and Summoner. Seems pretty alright. I'm just going to assume I'll get Chemist from the Earth crystal.

Okay so made progress, got through to my Fire Job but it was not easy. I ended up going back to grind a bit more at the Ship Graveyard so my white mages had a few more levels and I'm glad I did, even with protect Garula was kicking my ass. Managed to beat it after quite a few struggles and then got my second job which was Time Mage... Yay? At least this class can use rod break something I know I'm going to need without any real way to deal damage and I did end up using that but I'm getting ahead of myself. Made it to Karnak I remember because of the stupid castle sequence after you do the Fire Ship (also serious question, how the hell does the Ship connect to the crystal chamber and thus the palace? It never seems to suggest you are in a dock of any kind so I do not understand how you get from the ship to the castle) but Karnak was pretty fruitful in terms of new equipment and stuff. The Flail weapon I ended up giving to everyone, my Time Mages could use knives but they were only doing slightly better damage in the front row and the Flails did full damage in the back. Took some time to grind again against some Wolfs outside so I could buy a all the new equipment/spells I needed plus a few of each Rod so I could break them if needed and boy did I.

The boss of the Fire Ship seemed damn well near impossible to kill without it. I could do maybe 100-200 damage before it would heal itself for 250+ it eventually said it ran out of MP but that was only for Fira on my party, it could still cast Fira on itself so that seems like it was actually some kind of ability instead of a spell. It was rough between the AoE of Blaze and Fira or just normal attacks even with buffs on myself. I had to break two ice rods to get through that part, was not easy at all. After that came the timed area which kicked my ass and I couldn't get all of the treasures, I looked up what I missed and the main piece of gear I missed was an Elven Mantle and I'm guessing a few Elixers since I got everything else that was named. I made it out with about a minute to spare but I knew there was a boss and I only had 1 Rod left going into it so I wasn't sure if that would kill it or not (It didn't) so it was cutting it close. The fire crystal unlocked Geomancer for me which I have no idea WTF it does but the Gaia ability it comes with seems to use a different attack depending on your location from what I can tell, wiped out almost a full group of wolves which were taking me a lot of time to kill before with 1 use of that so thats a good start but I need to look up the details on it.

I did stream this tonight but it was a lot of grinding so I wasn't surprised I didn't exactly attract any real viewers to it but was fun regardless. I'm going to upload the archives to my youtube channel starting next week anyway so gives me something to use for that. I'll likely continue streaming tomorrow.

I've skipped him all but one time when I i didnt have a magic option. That one time was basically just sitting with a wall ring on with frameskip on for like an hour until he ran out of mp.
