D2 PVP = Faster TTK & Cooldowns?

????

Calm down dodes, I meant vs the beginning of D2. Remember things like go fast update?

They are slower than D1 but significantly faster than D2 vanilla is what I meant.

When I started D2 crucible I hated it vs D1. Maybe I'm just used to it but lately it seems pretty good. Or at least specifically, the teamshotting doesn't seem too oppressive.

A lot of my opinion about PVP will vary based on how tilted I am whenever I post, lol.

I think a lot of us will be solo queuing until Forsaken. I'm expecting a lot of old regulars to come back, and that will hopefully bring back Crucible trains. I rarely solo queued in D1, and would be constantly getting invites from multiple groups back at that game's peak.

Good times.

Until then, hop on the DERA Discord and see if anybody needs to load up for their milestones.

So I got to vanguard rank 50 today, mostly doing heroic strikes (save 1 night fall a week and a few regular strikes at start of season). I have yet to get or seen drop a strike catalyst drop.

System seems broke.

Vanilla D2 PvP was pretty bad. I'm talkin' Halo: Reach bad. I'm talkin' almost *shudders* Overwatch bad. Since the Go Fast update and 6v6 IB I've actually been having a modicum of fun with it though.

Starting to think changing the TTK and weapon slots won't be enough to properly fix the Crucible at this point. Maps will need to be larger especially to accommodate 6v6, health regen may need another buff, sprint speed may need some more attention, in-air accuracy tweaks and power ammo timing will likely need further adjusting just to name a few.

Looking back on Vanilla D2's PvP, it truly boggles my mind almost beyond words that Bungie honestly believed what they had created was better than what had come before. How and why they thought nerfing almost every gameplay and sandbox related ability and mechanic into the ground was the right course to take is truly unsettling. The irony is they were completely wrong about almost everything and have had to spend the last 9 months fixing this giant clusterfuck they call PvP. How those people managed to keep their jobs is truly mind blowing.

I remember being so optimistic about Destiny 2 prior to release, thinking Bungie had so much time, resources and experience from developing the first game. All the reviews, criticism, critique, feedback and mountains of data at their disposal an this... This is the BEST they could do?

I want to enjoy PvP again, I REALLY want to enjoy PvP again but the Crucible just really fucking blows and feels like it needs a complete top-to-bottom rebuild... Again.

God help them if they don't get it right the first time with Destiny 3. Waiting 6-12 months for Bungie to re-learn from past mistakes is getting so fucking old.

Not sure if this is already posted :

https://twinfinite.net/2018/06/destiny-2-forsaken-e3-interview/

Twinfinite: Could you explain how weapon slot changes will work exactly? What's going to happen to the current loadout of Kinetic, Energy, and Power. For example: If you can run power weapons in the first two slots now, how will that change the current power weapon slot?

Taylor: So the power slot is going to house the rocket, the sword, and the linear fusion rifles, and the grenade launchers. All the other weapons can be assigned to either the primary or secondary slot. Which means a shotgun could drop and it could show up in your first slot, second slot, or your third slot, but they will be assigned to a slot. You have to figure out based on what's available to you, where you want to place things.

Twinfinite: You can't run two better devils for example?

Taylor: If a Better Devils dropped that was set in that slot, you can't just place anything wherever.

It seems like Weapon Slot is tied to random rolls.

Twinfinite: Are there any smaller, quality of life changes that you have planned that maybe wasn't flashy enough to make it to the trailers, but you wouldn't mind sharing today?

Taylor: It's not in the trailer but one we've talked about is how the shader system is working, we'll be able to delete multiple shaders at once, shaders are going to be stored in the collection. So that's something that if you're a Destiny player that's going to be really impactful for you but it's not a flashy thing you put in a trailer.

Inb4 the Shader Collection Kiosk is just a separate vault.

Twinfinite: Will you use the Forsaken expansion to do any subclass redesign or balance changes? I imagine the new paths/supers are a way to provide a new play experience, but will you be changing anything about the original paths?

Taylor: We have nine new supers, so if you love your arc warlock, you're going to get a new way to play. So we're focusing on figuring out how those [new supers] balance within everything else. And then, the biggest thing we're doing with sandbox is changing up the weapon system and that means we're rebalancing the ammo and how that works. The weapon system, if you liked to play the way Destiny 1 worked, that's awesome, if you liked Destiny 2, that's awesome too. But you can also do crazier combinations like multiple shotguns.

Reads to me like they won't update existing subclass nodes ?

Taylor: Sure, I can tell you that the raid is tied thematically story wise to the campaign so it's not some whole separate thing, it's the culmination of the stuff you learn about the adventure that we're talking about and that it's very boss heavy. We've talked about that too.

As a non-Raider, that 'thematically' part gives me hope that the story closure is not tied to finishing the Raid.

-----------------------------------

Yeah same. It's far too big to a time commitment for me and even when I did them regularly it was pretty annoying giving up hours of my evening to failed attempts in the early days. I did the first bit of Leviathan a few weeks after it released and that was enough.

As someone who plays a ton but doesn't really raid (only have a couple of my WoW guildies who play and they are split between ps4 and pc, hard to set a time to play, etc..) this is fantastic news.

I'm not alone in not playing Raids !

I'm not going to bother grinding Strikes until that shit is fixed. Somehow, by pure dumb luck, I got Riskrunner. But after doing nearly 150 heroic adventures for the Huckleberry, I'm done grinding for catalysts. Bungie can kiss my motherfucking ass with their stupidly low drop rates.

I also had to play an unhealthy amount of PvP for Jade Rabbit and Vigilance Wing. I'm not kidding when I say "unhealthy" either.

Damn, 150? I did like 5 this season and it dropped on my 3rd one.

Still no Crimson tho. I killed so many adds...

Playing through D2 on PC after completing vanilla on Xbox and really enjoying it (after having detested it for so long). Just finished the main story now to join a clan!

When Forsaken launches, will I need CoO and Warmind?

Bungo is never going to get matchmaking right. solo que should be with other solo ques. In what world is 6 matched up players going vs 6 solo players allowed? last of us had two different matchmaking pools and that was in 2013.

I've long wondered if it's an issue with the number of players or something.

it's absurd how often solo players get matched against stacks.

Finally did the do, beat Spire of Stars. Yay. Nice chill group with several others who hadn't completed it. The final actual kill of him was literally by the tiniest of hairs, barely got the last ball into him in time, and he was enraged, it was nuts, and there was mass confusion whether he was actually dead, but he was. Took like 3 hours total, but that's a first raid clear for ya.

Got the raid sidearm which is supposedly like a Kinetic last hope, and the raid Fusion which I think is good, but no luxurious toast or cape to get 385, bleh.

Nothing left to do now but get 385 before hiatus. May not even make that.

Checked raid report earlier, so lifetime I stand at officially 9 Leviathan clears, 5 Eater of Worlds Clears, and now 1 SOS clear.

Mind you I've transitioned away from raiding since it became possible to reach max light without it, that and I take long breaks from the game where I even uninstall it (so I wont be tempted to duck back in real quick). Or unless there's some reason to raid (like the new power system kind of requiring it to hit 385 in a timely manner). I pretty much clear each raid or lair once just to say I did. Beyond that is ad hoc.

Posted this on Bungie forum, someone got to rank 100 and still no drops. This catalyst thing as a whole feels like a steep back to me. It's like the worse part of grinding exp on a weapon(D1) coupled with the shittiest rng. Now I look at my list of exotics and my destiny ocd kicks in and I see just a ton of incomplete weapons. Something in my head just doesn't let me even use weapons that are not upgraded, feels like lugging around a broken weapon.

Hmm, got my first exotic catalyst drop (Borealis).

450 heavy weapon kills? Is this shit worth it?
What does the catalyst do again? Is it just extra stability? I've got it but can't be bothered grinding it out because of the heavy ammo drop rate and the hidden juggler modifier that's permanently on.

Yeah and it just adds another layer of RNG needing the weapon to drop and then the catalyst. Would have preferred it if they just ditched the catalysts and had you level it up with kills without needing it. Their drop rate seems horrible anyway.

I don't know what it does. Anyone else get the got the Borealis catalyst? No real solid info online if it's worth it either way.

But considering the RNG required for any particular exotic + the hundreds of hours required to find the catalyst and THEN the insane requirements to actually activate the perk... if it's not giving me a proverbial god mode weapon like Gilly then Bungie can fuck off.

Borealis catalyst is just faster reloading.

You think 450 heavy kills is a slog? It'll go faster than you think just futzing around in patrol and strikes.

I've completed the catalyst and feel the extra reload speed is underwhelming.

Catalysts like Crimson or Tractor Cannon are much more noticeable and worth it imo.

It is underwhelming

Borealis Catalyst doesnt do much and its not like you are focusing on double kills for orbs with it either

I did it anyways but Its not one thats absolutely neccessary to grind out.

Still currently one of the strongest weapons in the game but I mostly use it for Argos and Strikes

Finally fired up the game after buying the discounted expansion pass during the Days of Play sale. Blew through the first campaign, am now meandering around in the second (did more world events than story, somehow got caught in a full Escalation Protocol (no idea what was happening). Anything special I need to be aware of before continuing playing? For now, I just want to get my level high enough to do Heroic Strikes (I think I'm 6 points away?). And then maybe somehow find an Escalation Protocol group and dork around on those, that was fun.

Also, is there any specific way to get the Helm of Saint-14? Was my favorite item in D1, heard it's back. Only thing I could find is it randomly drops on Mars. Was hoping it was tied to something more specific, like public events.

So I caved and bought the PC version a while back. It's amazing. It's a religious experience to go from 30fps to 60fps in D2. Insane quality. I will also note that despite my graphics card being top of the line and my CPU being garbage, the game runs at max. Insane. The loading is also infinitely better than PS4. I'm loading way faster. Like minutes faster.

I will note that people in Crucible on PC suck. Man are they terrible. I have never wrecked teams so badly on PS4. But on PC it's just a stomp session left and right and I'm destroying every player. Are PC players just bad in PvP?

Yeah, I thought going from The Division on console to PC was a huge difference/game changer with the performance buff (and I probably sound like a broken record here) but man does Destiny play beautifully on PC. It may not be the game each and every player wants it to be in their own way (and probably never will be completely) but I wish everyone could experience the way the PC version plays/looks with the increased/maxed FOV and obvious performance improvements. It's shockingly good.

I get that they want you to be able to reload faster so that you can change the element faster, but damn... wish it had an extra bullet or two in it as well.

Polaris Lance with Catalyst in PVE is god tier. Worth the grind so go get it, boys and gals.

Also, I'm just going to say it. Steady Hand and Crimil's Dagger in PVP is better than Better Devils. Nothing like watching a single headshot wipe out a Titan's shield.

If weapons are randomly assigned a weapon slot, that will be one of the most poorly conceived decisions I can imagine around this game.

Yep, so good that I put Crimson with a completed catalyst away to use it.

Yeah, I don't think that's how it works. I know the author of the article posted earlier seemed to think that but it would be really strange in action. I think what's most likely to happen is just a Weapon Slot rebalancing.. so that weapon types can be put anywhere but specific weapons will still have specific slots (i.e. Better Devils always a Kinetic) so that you can't run 2 or 3 of the exact same weapon, but you CAN run 2 or 3 of the exact same weapon type.

I really can't be bothered forcing myself to do the crucible milestone this week. Last week every match I did was so one-sided against my team it was ridiculous.
