I haven't kept up with this hate. What is it people hate about TLJ? Is it Like shoving his shoulder? Is it Leia forcing her way back to the spaceship? What exactly is it that some people don't like?

I myself loved the movie. But I'm just curious.

Generally people thought the whole of Canto Blight was unnecessary (even though it works to establish societal issues are the driving factor in conflicts rather than evil space wizard magic) and a lot of people, A Lot, were for some reason super pissed that Luke pulls a Yoda and goes off to be a weirdo hermit after he makes a catastrophic mistake, because that's super out of character for Luke, to try and emulate the actions of one of two Jedi masters he's ever known.

It's just some guy with a twitter account. You guys are giving this way too much credence.
Yeah seems like it but from what I can tell, and I might be reading this incorrectly, they've already raised over 18m dollars. Pretty absurd lol

Man I would love to see the train wreck that would come out of this "diverse writing team."

Obviously its absurd and will never happen, but I'd love for Disney to call their bluff just to see how awful it'd turn out.

I both find this absurd and still find myself impressed with how much of their live those people are willing to give for their obsession. Like, holy shit. It's sitting right on the line between impressive and unnerving.

Can't say I really liked TLJ and certainly don't want more like it just so that Rian Johnson can score Twitter insult points or whatever. But I also think these guys are just getting sad and pathetic at this point. It's like they took TLJ as a personal offense.

If they're just being bigots then why worry? It's not like Disney isn't coming for that racist straight white male money too. The narrative that Disney is persuing some policy to eliminate prominent white men from Star Wars is absurdly paranoid. But these are bigots so they're not logical to begin with.

For the same fans, TLJ is what it is now and we just have to wait and see what Episode 9 does to complete the trilogy.

Solo was good though. More people should have seen that one.

I do think this is a fanbase that couldn't actually be satisfied by a single film anymore.

It has both fans who think it's serious galactic political drama and those who think it's whimsical space fantasy. It has both fans got into it through passionate roguish adventurer protagonists and those who got into it through doctrinal humourless monks in bathrobes. It has fans who want to see ritual reenactment of 40 year old films, and those who want it to go completely new places.

I don't think TLJ is inherently a divisive film. I think it's a solid film thrown to a divided fanbase.

Kinda makes me think that Star Wars is so large that it could possibly be better served as a GoT budget sized TV series. Hell I'd watch the shit out of something like a Jedi detective series.

Two of two.

Obi Wan went off the grid and hid too.

"Rey, you must turn back. Even your grandfather, the great Obi-Wan Kenobi, would not attempt this alone.

Also, I did not realise that you were a slim man in disguise all this time!"

"Supreme Leader Snoke, your powers are unmatched but we believe there was a fault in the cloning process when you were cloned from Emperor Palpatine which left you with a different voice and a decaying body."

"Wow, that was incredible Master Skywalker. I've never seen someone do so many spins and leaps with a lightsabre before. You truly have mastered the Force through your years of dedication and training!"

The only thing that'd satisfy these losers would be:

STAR WARS
The Last Jedi

Ext: Some planet.

REY and ROSE both die straight away because reasons.

INT: Spaceship

FINN, POE and KYLO REN lightsaber duel for an hour and a half until HAN SOLO AND LUKE SKYWALKER join in and kill REN, who doesn't show any insecurity or conflict throughout the whole time and instead is all badass.

Our 4 heroes laugh heartily and bro-fist

At some point DARTH VADER reappears

When they get shot down then whatever but I'm not going to mock them for this. Let them do what they want

"When they get shot down"

How can something be shot down when it never gained any height in the first place?

Aside from this being an absurd idea that deserves mockery for even existing, do you know anything about the shitty behaviour/intent surrounding TLJ hate?

If they have the money, just make the film. plenty of fan films exist using Star Wars brand and characters. Do a whole fan retcon timeline of movies.

Seriously though TLJ threads are like a battleground on a toxic wastedump. It feels like there are 2 opposing forces trying to write the long term consensus of the film. One says best since Empire, another say worse than Clones. At this point I think the negative side has won. I see a lot more criticism.

The funniest shit to me about the reaction to the Luke stuff in TLJ is that, when the Force Unleashed came out back in 08, the hardcore Star Wars fans were like "wow this motherfucker is pulling down a star destroyer with the force the fuck this is ridiculous and cartoonishly over-the-top this is total trash."

Flash forward almost a decade and these same people are super pissed that Luke doesn't use the force to single-handedly wipe out the entire imperial ground force in the TLJ by crushing walkers with his mind.

Funny how things change. I think these nerds would be pressed if ANH released today because Obi-Wan uses a Jedi mind trick on the Mos Eisley stormtroopers instead of making their heads explode with the force.

I was looking at that the twitter account and it is wild how much they really think this will happen. Also, whoever is posting to the account straight up said yes when asked if they had $200 million ready to fund this project. I want this to go forward just for them to actually have to show some receipts.

You forgot the part were Snoke reveals himself to be Plagueis resurrected and Luke throws boulders and moons at him.

The Kylo/Rey story was the most interesting part, and it felt like they were going for something that would shake up things and change the direction of the characters, I was totally on board with this when it was happening, them teaming up against Snoke, and then.....in true Hollywood fashion they quickly 'splain it all away and move Kylo into a generic "evil" role completely negating his redemption arc and everything that I found interesting about his story/character in the movie, ruining that whole part

I read all of your grievances but I'm just going to talk about this one here. Your words "redemption arc" are interesting because you take it as a foregone conclusion that Kylo was even going to be redeemed.

The thing with TLJ is that when they were communicating and searching their feelings they were both right: Kylo was going to overthrow Snoke like Rey saw and Rey was going to join Kylo like Kylo saw. But while they foresaw the ACTION, they misunderstood the REASONS. Kylo is pissed being pushed around by Snoke and Hux - I mean Kylo is the "heir apparent" to Vader after all! He wants to finish what Vader started, he wants to rule the galaxy. Burn down the old ways.

Rey on the other hand is over optimistic that his conflicting feelings is a gateway to helping the Resistance. So she helps him, first as an unaware distraction to finish off Snoke, and then to take up arms alongside him to take down Snoke's guards.

Unfortunately she miscalculated what his true intentions were and he miscalculated Rey's devotion for her friends.

If you're seeing more criticism on Era, than I would take that with a grain of salt. If Era were the end-all-be-all, Jurassic World would've been a huge flop instead of the huge hit it was with most people - and I say that as someone who disliked the film.
