On the 'I agree' side is the fact that I often check out what my friends are playing and am apt to download things I otherwise would not. Oh, and fuck that guy for playing cliker heroes and having it show up in my feed. *i will not play f2p microtransaction games...i will not play f2p microtransaction games....*

On the 'i dont agree' side, we cannot know how much it sold without gamepass, could be more could be less. The real test will come when other companies panies decide whether or not to release big games on gp. If we see farcry6 or blackops V, then we'll know the data is solid.

Just a quick random side note on Clicker Heroes.

The next game will not be F2P. The studio put out an awesome message about not wanting to abuse customers.

I wonder if game pass once merged with gold and generating few billions every year will the thing making Sony top management force more GaaS elements in their first party games. So far most of their games are sp only with no frequent updates or dlc. Games like Days Gone or Horizon sequels seems like a perfect contender for an evolving open world game with co-op like FarCry 5.

Do we know how DKTF Switch did compared to the Wii U version?

I also find it interesting that Skyrim is still in the top 10 Switch games after this amount of time and still selling better than some more recently released games. Seems like it's been a very consistent seller. Would be very curious to see what it's LTD figure is at this point.

Mat, I have a question:

How do you make sure that the digital numbers you get from publishers are correct?
What if MS or Sony (for example) deliberately reported incorrect (i.e. higher than actual) numbers just to push a certain game of theirs to the top of the charts?
do you actually think anyone would ever do that?

They are publicly traded companies. They'd get in a shitload of trouble for doing this.

No, I am not suspecting anyone.
But: for retailers I really don't see any incentive to report wrong numbers. If publishers themselves report the numbers, the situation is a bit different though. Just curious if NPD take any precautions or have any means to force them to report correct numbers.

Second May for consoles:

Wii: 675K
PS2: 524K
GBA: 403K
PS3: 209K
NSW: 165K
PSP: 160K
X360: 155K
PS4: 155K
DS: 146K
XBO: 139K
Xbox: 124K
3DS: 114K
GC: 84K
WiiU: 60K
...
Vita: 16K lol

DS and PSP are missing as for some reason it's almost impossible to find any handheld figures for 2006. DS sold over 600k in June on back of Lite launch though so probably didn't do that hot in May as people were waiting for that.

Edit. Added PSP and DS thanks to data provided by Ryng Manuel Tolu

That's not how any of this works. They pull the numbers straight from PSN / Xbox Live / etc. and give them straight to NPD. They have absolutely no reason to fudge the numbers because there is an expectation of mutual integrity (i.e. if everyone inflated numbers, there would be no point in any of the publishers / retailers receiving NPD numbers at all).
OK, understood.

State of Decay 2 omg, lol.

That thread about which did you wanna play between it and Detroit may predicted this outcome.

I just started playing SoD 1, it's a fun game. Guess I'll be buying 2.

So, this game helped XBO have it's best May? Exclusives ppl, exclusives... Don't sleep on them.

But But But, its also on PC so its not exclusive /s

More seriously, SOD2 is an amazing game and is obviously helping. Can't wait to see how games like Crackdown 3 do now. If you went by ResetERA, it will fail and be 100% forgettable, so, I am guessing it will be #1 on the charts and be a great game.

To put it simply

It's illegal for them to do that. They are a publicity traded company and falsifying metrics that have a direct impact on share price would get them royally fucked if it were proven

Wow, no wonder Microsoft bought the studio!
Also, Nintendo's software results are even more impressive because they don't share digital numbers! They could be the top publisher for the year for all we know...

The Nintendo digital numbers are inflated higher than they actually are.

Yikes at Switch. Below even PS3? Is that good? I mean, at least it's above PS4.

Seems like Ninty really banked on Labo doing good for their H1 strategy.

That's your takeaway from those numbers? The PS3 had a fantastic second May, one of the all time highest. The switch outsold some of the best selling platforms of all time in its second may with a pretty slim release slate. I don't see what makes that number bad.

Do you think MH has a shot at 12month top 10 btw? Or any of the top selling exclusives (probably even less likely)?

I do... Both GoW and MHW have a shot at the yearly top 10. If they do sneak in, it'll be at #8 or lower.

No, I am not suspecting anyone.

It's a fair question. We do the due diligence. I've no reason to suspect this has ever happened or will ever be an issue.
