Just had like a 30 min match with a Yoshi that went to the very end of a tiebreaker. Man that was intense. I'm getting the hang of DK.

I have a complaint about the story mode:
I'm actually disappointed that you are forced to play the Peach/Daisy and Mario matches back to back after you lose. I beat Wario and Waluigi but got to Luigi and I lost. Then I tried starting it up and turns out the chapter has those two matches in there where you have to beat both in one sitting rather than beat one, take a break and then finish off in the next match. The matches are definitely fun, but its kind of a waste of time to force the player to beat both matches consecutively. Also any have any tips on Beating Luigi? Should I just load up meter and break his racket. How can I stop giving him zone shot opportunities while I'm trying to charge meter?

Nothing like getting to the final game in a tournament and before the game starts the connection is showing full bars and then drops to red... Ending up losing to someone with 20,000 plus points... So frustrating.

Every time I get to the final match I lose to a person with 20K+ points that's lagging like crazy, even though the connection is full bars when the match is loading in. Hard to think they're not doing it on purpose at this point.

Another run to the semi-finals and another loss to a guy with 25K + points that lags after showing a four-five bar connection prior to the game starting up. This is so frustrating.

It's time for me to take a break fam.

Okay, I finally got to play against someone online. That was fun as hell. Holy crap. Single-player does not compare.

Niuku - If you post here, thanks for the fun matches. Much respect. Sent a friend request so we can play more in the future.

Anyone know when the extra 300 gold points apply to your account for preordering? I saw a Nintendo press release back from when the demo came out saying it would be "a few days" after release but no concrete date

It's absolutely baffling that there's no quick retry option in the Story Mode. Some of these challenges are hard, and having to sit through the entire post-match results screen, mash through Toad's losing speech, restart, skip the trash talk from your opponent and wait for the stage to load before you can retry is ridiculous. It's 2018. This is a solved problem: "Would you like to retry? Yes/No". Nintendo, you're better than this.

this is made by Camelot, not Nintendo

In the 1.1.0 patch notes it says:
  • Online play: We have made some adjustments so that players of similar skill are more likely to be matched together. (Outside of matches with friends)
But that's probably lies given people's experience.

probably lies, been playing since launch with 65% win rate
and got paired with someone with 50 points

How's the local multiplayer? Not really interested in online or story mode. My wife and I are burning through overcooked atm and we're wondering if this is next game for us to spend our time with.

I really don't think tournaments make any attempt at that whatsoever, but maybe that applies to free play?

Are there any actual cases of Camelot updating their games post-launch? I know of the DLC with Mario Golf on the 3DS, but...

I don't know, I get the impression that Nintendo only pays attention to the multi-player games that their main development teams are in charge of, the likes of Smash Bros. and Mario Kart. ARMS may not have been a runaway success, but it saw some pretty amazing support from Nintendo.

With Aces though... I just don't know if Camelot has the manpower (or funds) to keep this game in proper working order. Being a 2nd party developer to Nintendo, I imagine that the only way this game will be supported is if it sells a stupid amount of units, but so far word of mouth for this game is not great because of the weird omissions they've made.

Hoping for the best here, because they have an amazing foundation to work on. This game screams "diamond in the rough" for me.

Let's be fair, the balancing issues amount to trick shots being too generous with meter, and maybe the defensive characters having too much reach. The former is inextricably linked to the latter, so it's a small tweak that's needed really.

Then there is the mountain of salt that this game creates. Some players are simply too good and it's easier for us to say "...but, balance!"

I got a 83% win ratio and 30 tournaments. I wonder after the end of the month if there's actually rewards?

Are there any tips for the Blooper fight? In a game already full of questionable decisions, that pole in the middle of the court is quite honestly the worst decision by far. There's no way to tell where the ball will go until its too late. There's no way to tell if the ball is going behind the pole or bouncing off it until its already too late and even when it does hit the pole, there's multiple trajectories where the ball goes.

If the game was a 7/10 at first, that dumbass court design brings it down to 5/10.

Quite often when Blooper returns a shot that's going to bounce off the mast, a star appears on the ground where the ball will end up. If you're stood in the star, you can be sure the ball will bounce towards you.

Fought a Waluigi on the finals, and man just experienced the Trick Shot abuse. Beat him with a 5/6 tie breaker though. I'm not gonna abuse it, but I hope they fix that.

Holy shit this is bollocks! Now I know why I'm seeing lots of Daisy...

That, unfortunately, doesn't seem to be daisy specific. Just go into a match and pretty much mash up and down trickshots, it's super lenient on how much it autocorrects to snap you to the shot (and....build meter doing it).

Mashing up and down works even if the ball is on my sides?!

I've only had time to play a few matches of multiplayer since release since i'm almost done the Splatoon xpac.

I seriously thought Trick Shots COST meter and were for when you messed up your positioning.

If they build meter there's no reason to play a tournament online until they patch something

More as a response to their hit, but it's still honestly weirdly lenient in general. The backtrick can go really far to the left and right so it snaps to the ball pretty hard.

here's one where I was standing to hit a ball back but flicked back instead and despite the ball's position I built a bunch of meter.

Here's a video of a guy explaining it better. Literally can close his eyes and return the ball.

This is fucking lame. So any competitions between high level players are just going to be returning endless trick shots to each other. Trickshots shouldn't build meter, they should only USE meter. The leniency on them needs to come down as well.

Does anyone else think that the SP is frustrating and not really fun to play? I'm going to quit this and just play more online matches

Hey - it's lovely, I've played a fair bit of simple mode doubles, and we're going to work up the difficulty levels. We'll probably just end up playing a few games a week, just like with Mario Kart, so your mileage may vary if you want to go hardcore and expect lots of tournaments.

Trick shots really should use up as much meter as a zone shot and never refill it. Returning it a little bit of force is reward enough for good timing. The auto-aim of the thing is a bit ridiculous too. It's really hard to punish to someone for being on the far edge of the court as it is without them using it.

Slow-mo at least quickly robs you of meter and denies you zone shots and supers.

Yeah that fact that you can have somebody pinned into a corner, using all the correct shots, fully charged, ahead on meter, making them second guess where you're going to hit, then they get to trickshot and build a huge amount of meter and potentially special shot you is insane. Like a trickshot as a last ditch save is fine, but it should be draining meter and giving back a week shot if you have no meter (like it does) but not building it. Also it builds a hilariously big amount.

I don't think they will remove Trick Shot meter building entirely, because it's straight up taught in the Adventure mode, but I can see them just reducing the amount of meter a correct Trick Shot earns you, as well as making it more difficult to execute.

Watched a video that said you could cancel a charge input like a slice by simply pressing a new button like topspin... but wouldn't that just make it a drop shot? I might have my lob/dropshot timings wrong, they were a bit inconsistent on that one Chain-Chomp challenge.

There are so many mini games in the SP...why aren't they unlocked for challenge modes or mini game modes for 1-2 players? This is frustrating. I want to play them outside the SP .
