How to get Public Beta?

1. Sign in to this link.
https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/

2. Get the iOS12 profile on your phone.

3. Choose whether to update via OTA or iPhone USB. Remember to always BACKUP your device before you update to a beta.

This iOS is actually making me want to switch from Android. It's everything.

I don't think I get enough from android's OS to really make me stay, and the fragmentation and how slowly they roll out updates is making me dislike it.

I'll definitely get an iPhone once my S7 Edge no longer serves me.

iOS 12 is genuinely incredible.

I have a single bug on the current beta and even that's just a dumb little visual thing on the lock screen. Even battery life is better on my X.

nice touch haha.

running the iOS beta on my iPad Air (1) - runs very smoothly and is already way better than iOS 11, for the fact that notification center isn't combined with the task switcher anymore, which makes it so much more responsive.

update with iphone USB?
How does this work? I have the beta profile installed. I wanted to try this method instead of OTA if its possible.

I just got an 8 Plus Sunday, so all this stuff is now totally relevant to my interests. I also have a Gen 1 iPad Air, but that isn't as important to me as the phone anyway.

I really like that notification stacking in particular. It seems like something that should've been there for a long time.

You can either download the ipsw file and then update via that file by ctrl+clicking update and selecting the file or if you plug your iPhone into your PC, iTunes should automatically allow you to update to iOS 12.

I own a 6S and plan on it being my last iPhone, so I'm just gonna see how long it survives. Don't think I'll be trying the Beta, but would it be worth downloading iOS 12 when it's released publicly, or will it end up just melting my phone?

Definitely try replacing your battery this year and try iOS 12 when it comes out. My friend has beta and he has said how astounding performance was.

Don't forget there's a 6S battery recall. Also, your 6S will work fine with iOS12

Yeah, I definitely haven't forgotten about the battery offer but was waiting as long as possible to take them up on it; I might finally go for it in July.

If I do iCloud Sync, not backup, I can always downgrade at any time and just restore my information from iCloud (but not a backup) right? Not a problem now that Messages are synced through iCloud as well

I know that if I update even with the bugs I won't want to go back. I must fight the urge.

Correct. Basically anything ticked "green" in the iCloud control panel is good to go, even across full restores

Thank you.

Also how long does it take to boot up? I installed the update, and it seems like its stuck on the apple screen after it rebooted from update. Not sure if it should be like this so im a bit concerned now.

I have 2 phones.

The first which is a iPhone X which is now rocking this beta.
The second is my Pixel (1st gen) which is rocking the Android O beta.

I've noticed IOS beta's are generally more robust.

might try this just on my ipad pro first, to see how the gestures help make it more consistent with iphone X. But it sounds pretty stable so may put it on my X anyway too. But the main things for me are the shortcuts which has no app yet (any ETA?), and the usage time - but that is more something I want to put on my daughter's phone as a potential replacement for kidslox which is good but not granular enough and can't block system apps like messaging.

Does the usage have the full functionality for family sharing and parental controls? Or is that part coming later? Not sure I want to enroll my daughter's phone to the public beta..

iCloud only keeps your three most recent backups. So if you're on the beta longer than three days, you don't have an iOS 11 backup to roll back to. I'd make an iTunes backup if at all possible

What is the difference between full backup and an icloud sync? These days for both computers and ios devices it seems pretty simple to just reinstall a fresh OS and then your key online services and let everything sync up. I think everything of importance to me is either icloud synced or in dropbox/onedrive.

So I think I'm good with icloud sync? I don't have itunes installed and would prefer not to if possible

Very tempted to upgrade. But I have not been on a beta since iOS 9 or something. Is this really as stable as people are saying it is?

My main interest is to try the shortcuts app. Might hold out for the that to be available before jumping in.

Just installed it and performance is really good?

Feels faster than my 8+ has ever been.

Anyone else noticing a massive performance increase?

Basically, in the icloud control panel in settings, anything ticked green is safe. Anything not on that list will only come back with a full backup.

longer than iOS11.4 feels like, I have an iPhone 8+ and it took around 15-20secs? Nothing to worry about.

I don't know if it's a glitch or an intentional change, but my background image is no longer dimming depending on placement. I know this because I can't read the folder labels anymore on my picture

You can set it for 1 hour, until tomorrow morning, or until I leave this location in control center.

Settings menu lets you schedule it during specific hours, but not specific days.

As for Siri shortcuts to do it, looks like it only supports Photos and Safari in this beta.

How do I turn off the haptic feedback when using the home button in silent mode? The phone now vibrates when I unlock it instead of the usual click feeling on the home button and it's annoying (iPhone 8 Plus)

So, no notable bugs? The only reason I want to get the beta is so I can have another Face ID; my face, except wearing sunglasses.

so far it's working with sunglasses here, but only when i am in the shadows. Not working when i am exposed to the sun, while wearing sunglasses (maybe the reflections? info: dev beta 2)

Bright sunlight on the sensor can screw with it.

I'm on ios 11 and it sometimes recognises me with sunglasses on.

Does the second image have to be similar to the original? Eg can it be my wife to allow her to easily unlock my phone? One thing I miss from touch ID

Feels good so far. I'm noticing the contrast change on the home screen making my text a bit more difficult to read, but I just swapped backgrounds.
It feels snappy and the measuring app is pretty damn genius.

Screen time is going to change my life.

I heard about GPS issues though. I'm going on a trip to São Paulo this week, depending on how bad those are I'll have to postpone the beta. I'll make a backup and install it later to see how it is.

Huh, I don't think I've ever had an issue with sunglasses with FaceID. What kind do you wear? Just generally curious. Lol.

On topic, I'm gonna install when I get home from work. Can't wait to try out the new Siri stuff (when or if it's working in this patch).
