Ugh I keep forgetting this and holding off actually playing. I should probably start soon since I'm not even to the point where I have dusty coin missions unlocked, and I want to make sure I at least get every costume.

If you start right now you should have time. As you also advance through the story you should have more opportunities for even more I think.

How badly do I need to play online to enjoy the game? I've had it sitting and wrapped on my shelf for months now . . .

Haha I knew something like that'd be out there. Did you find it? Lol

Took me a while, but yes, i did. :)

It's not essential, but treasure hunts are pretty fun and you can unlock some useful items (like a talisman that grants you an unlimited gravity meter, which is great for exploration), additional costumes (skins from the first game, iirc) and cosmetic items. Personally, i didn't bother competing in online challenges, because they're not my thing in any game, but your mileage might vary.

I actually enjoy the online stuff more than the story haha. I'd say hop on, play through the story at your own pace, and just at minimum do the daily treasure hunts every day and you should have no trouble getting all the rewards if you start like now. Again I legitimately enjoy hopping on every day to do them.

Took me a while, but yes, i did. :)

I suggest doing online challenges because if you do like a gold medal you're basically guaranteed to get a win if you send out a challenge and you get like 180 tokens.

Also most of the costumes from the old game are earned just by having a Gravity Rush Remastered save on your PS4.

There might be some alternate versions tho?

With picture quests, i'm assuming you mean treasure hunts. Those refresh every 12 hours. Once you unlock them early in the game, you'll be getting 4 per 12 hours. After story mission #20 you'll receive 8 hints per 12 hour cycle.

Dang I need to really hit it with the story. I've got tomorrow free so I'll probably spend the day doing that.

They are certainly very lucrative and a good way to earn dusty tokens quick for anyone just starting out now, but i did one early on and failed badly, in part due to my powers still being underdeveloped (at least i like to think so :P ). I did the math for myself though and calculated that i'd be done unlocking everything within 10 days or so just doing treasure hunts, so i just kept playing the main story in the meantime, since i've been putting it off for too long, and making sure to do the treasure hunts twice a day. I only need 180 dusty tokens to get to 6000 and already got all the talismans and other unlockable items from the chests, so i'm set.

Oh huh. Interesting.

Though another poster mentioned that certain chest unlockables aren't actually even accessible till later in the story. So even though I could earn all Dusty tokens just doing what I'm doing (I have like 3750), if I want all unlockables it looks like I oughta just go and finish up the story.

I hope you're past story mission 12, i'm prone to motion sickness which typically affects me in first person games and it has to be really bad to hit me in a third person game. On mission 12 i felt so nauseous that i had to take 3 breaks until i finished it, the last one being a good night's sleep, leaving the game on standby. Could be just me though. That was by far the worst experience i've had with the game, otherwise there were just a bunch of mildly annoying missions (playing stealth mostly, without any mechanics to support it). Overall i enjoyed the game, although i kept cracking up at how anime the game went not once, but twice, in terms of "This isn't even my final (final) form!"

I can definitely see why the game got so many mixed reviews from users, which was the reason i hesitated at launch, despite liking the first game a lot. The good thing is GR2 is still charming as hell, love the art and music, the world is really imaginative and just flying around shifting gravity while collecting gems never gets old and is one of the best traversal mechanics in any game, imo. Mission desing still isn't anything to write home about and combat is still a bit clunky, though some of the new moves and improvements help. Overall i'm still very glad i played it and my niece who watched me play said it was a very nice game, so that's a plus.

About the costumes, i think you get the worker uniform, school uniform 1.0 and shiter 1.0 skins from Dusty tokens. I got some of the old ones from the first game, but i'm still missing some skins. I'm assuming those are rewards for side missions, which i still got plenty of left.

Yeah I've been pretty disappointed in the story so far, and it's actually having a hard time giving me a reason to really care about it, which is rough. But I am still interested to see where it goes.

Usually my motion sickness issues happen from low FoV and playing on a screen far away like a TV, so I have my PS4 hooked up to my monitor.

It certainly felt like they tried to cram 2.5 games' worth of story into one for GR2, with each story arc feeling truncated, but at least there is some closure regarding the overall story of Kat. However, there is still plenty of mystique left even after that, to put it kindly.

Regarding motion sickness, i have a hard time pinning down what exactly causes it for me, so i generally just steer clear of first person games (shame about Cyberpunk 2077 :/ ). I'm fine 99% of the time in third person games, and gravity shifting in the open world of the GR games doesn't bother me at all, but the frequent gravity shifts and jittery camera within the enclosed spaces of mission 12 were the perfect combo to turn the game into a potential vomit comet for me.

In regards to first person I'm just curious, what have you done to try to relieve it? For me I basically never play on TVs, for all games but especially with first person. That's been a huge factor in relieving it for me. FoV, higher/more steady framerate, higher or sometimes lower resolution, how much of your vision is taken up (this is why TVs suck for me), motion blur on/off/intensity, camera sway, response time, etc. are all things that affect different people with motion sickness that I've noticed. And you really just have to find your specific cocktail of adjustments, which can be tough but once you find it I've found you can generally apply that to everything going forward.

Actually now that I think about it I think 30 fps is actually a big factor in me having a harder time with GR2. The game isn't exactly reaction intensive, so you wouldn't think the difference in responsiveness between 30 and 60 fps would matter, but maybe it's more the visual aspect. Because I was much, much more comfortable playing GRR.

It's a shame the game isn't on PC. You'd be able to crank it to 60 fps, and the servers shutting down could potentially be saved.

I haven't experimented with it as much as you did, it mostly comes from my experience of trying various FP games over the 3 decades i've been playing. I'm primarily a console player and haven't seriously played anything on PC in at least 10 years, which limits possible configurations. The screen taking up more of my vision actually makes it worse for me, so i prefer sitting fairly far away (2,5 - 3m). Framerate is likely a factor, but i think it's more stable vs. unstable framerates than 30 fps vs. 60fps. I do know i'm more likely to get motion sick when there's not enough fresh air in the room or i haven't had enough sleep, but that's only part of the equation. Another factor is when camera movements in FP are jerky, bobbing, or feel unnatural to what i think they should be like, it's like there's a disconnect, with my brain actively rejecting what's shown on screen and thus making me feel ill. I can occasionally handle some FP games in smaller increments, so i will try CP 2077, but i probably won't get it day 1 sight unseen.

In other news, i finally got the Unlimited Potential Talisman. The game gave me a little scare first though. I had 5970 DT, opened a chest, got the 80 DT, nothing. Opened 3 more, got the DT for each, but was still stuck at 5970 in the stats menu. Half a minute later it suddenly updated and i was at 6210. For a moment i thought the game had glitched at me just before the finish line. Also, curiously i'm getting some duplicate treasure hunts now. Not necessarily by the same people, but in the exact same spots where i've already found treasures before.

That's definitely fair. Sometimes on PC m/kb actually can give me issues because I'm really twitchy, so sometimes I switch to a controller to slow down the camera movement speed.

Stable framerates definitely make sense. I think I'm fine with that? But I don't know for sure. I know some people for whom a stable 30 fps is more effective against motion sickness than an unstable 60.

That really sucks man, I hope there's some way you can figure out a way to enjoy CP.

I noticed that too, it gives you the rewards for things before it actually updates, which is like, really weird.

At what point exactly do you get 8 hunts a day instead of 4? Cause at 4 a day I don't think I'd be able to get all the treasures before the game goes offline if I start today?

You can get like 320 from just 4 chests, and don't forget about challenges. Get a gold medal in a challenge, and then just send it out to random. I have one where I got a gold medal and I keep rolling in tokens every once in a while. It's like 180 if you win. Remember you can try as much as you want, whereas the challenger gets one shot, so you have a very good chance of winning if you get like a gold, since most people can't do that their first try.

welp I ordered this about two months ago and according to the tracking num it's supposed to be already at my nearest post office since last week , so today I went looking for it since the mailman hasn't show up at my place.
Turns out part of the post office burned down this past weekend so they have the place closed until further notice and nobody was allowed to enter. the guy guarding there didn't even have an estimate for when they plan to resume activities. so my copy of the game is in some kind of limbo until who knows when.

now I'm here contemplating buying digital just to get those items in time

The game is definitely worth $20.

Iirc, it has been 4 per 12 hour cycle since i unlocked tresure hunts. If you time it right, you could do 4 in the morning and 4 towards evening for a total of 8 per day. After you beat story mission 20, you'll get 8 each 12 hours, so up to 16 per day.

Those fucking treasure hunts bog down the pace of my completion down so much. I've given up on trying to get any outfits from the schoolgirl onward or important talismans. I don't want to do dozens upon dozens of these things on top of these barely interesting sidequests. So I'm sorry for people who want to unlock everything that the servers are going down, but for me it's kind of a relief.

Mark me down as another one of those people who loved the brevity of the first game and am now struggling to complete the second, sprawling installment. I also loved the district by district unlock structure of the first game, that complimented the rate at which you unlocked and learned your powers. The second game lets you go anywhere at any time, and there are quests fucking everywhere. It's just too much, and the story is also just not as compelling as when Kat lived alone and tried to find a place for herself in the world.

I mean I want to love the second game so much. The world is beautiful, the characters are still charming, and the gravity powers are as fun as ever... it's just unfortunately such a grind and the structure is too unfocused.

Just 3 weeks left!

I'm having some interesting treasure hunts.

Also, the Gravity Shifter 1.0 costume........yeah uh, what.

I'll be honest that's kind of me right now, ish. I like the game, but if you don't want to, you don't even have to play much of the game if you just want to get treasures. Just get to the part where they offer 4 a day. You'll be cutting it close but I think you can get there. If you do want to, you can finish the story. I honestly would recommend just mainlining the story and doing side quests afterwards. A lot of them take a lot of time and you'll wayyyy extend how long the story takes. I've decided to not do any more side missions and just finish the story for now.

So yeah I'd recommend just play through the story, and make sure you do the daily treasure hunts. Do challenges if you feel up to it too. They're fun but can be frustrating. However, if you do really well on one, then send that challenge out into the wild, and every time someone fails it, you'll get like 180 tokens. If they win you get like 5. Given you get to try as many times as you want to say get a gold medal, you're basically guaranteed to win every time almost. I think you can only have one active challenge at once. So right now my current challenge has been so profitable I've just not done any challenges since. It's pretty gratifying to watch the extra tokens just come in every few days.

Anything online will pretty much give you tokens. If you take a picture (make sure in your settings you set it to auto upload), you can get a like on it, and thus tokens. If you find a blue ghost of a player, click on it, select "Nice!" and you'll get tokens for just doing that.

So silly that the servers for this are going down. It's one of Sony's current gen, first party titles. They should be supporting it for much longer on principle. I shouldn't have to buy Sony's games and worry if they're going to be supported in a year.

Outdated FIFA games get better support than this.

Serious makes me mad.

In positive news I just won a challenge finally.

A lil rusty, but it's too big to fit on twitter so oh well good you guys can't see my screw ups haha.

Have fun with your 5 tokens JakePie >:D

I have no idea why I care about this but I'm having so much fun with the online stuff. Really upset it's going to be taken down. I have literally never cared about these kinds of online features before, but Gravity Rush 2 handles it extremely well. It's a shame the rest of the game really bungles things like the story. The best aspect of the game is being taken away.

Also a shame they had to make some preorder DLC, which looking at it would have been fantastic to have, which is now impossible to obtain now, even if you some how found a code >:(

Many people who gave the online stuff a chance felt the same but a lot also wrote it off thinking the mining stuff was a major part of it. I also think the idea of needing to "grind it" is a bit of a turn off for most people but just playing it for fun turned out to be pretty addicting. Some of those treasure hunts are dumbly well hidden and some of the hints given were fabulous. Challenges are still fun but I guess they aren't for everyone.

I totally agree. I think a big part of why I think it's successful is because it's pretty varied, so there is something for everyone, or if you're like me, a bunch of cool things all of which I enjoy.

I still don't understand the mining stuff at all. I'll get a notification for a storm, and talk to the guy and it's gone.

Me back in January: "Oh hell yeah, the date got pushed back. I now have 7 months to do this"
Me now: "Damnit!"

You've still got time! Just log in every day and do the challenges. 3 weeks should be plenty.

EDIT: Also, dang make sure you take the pictures to help other people. I just got two of these at once:

The mining stuff isn't the best. There are some unique monsters to fight but combat was never GR's strong point. It's not bad, fun even but I had plenty from the story mode so challenging fancy nevi isn't really my cuppa tea and I didn't find the mining and storm thing particularly intuitive or inviting either.

Yes, you should be able to. Just make sure you do all the treasure hunts available, and take pictures as I showed in my EDIT above. Challenges are a great way too if you can.

Since you have completed the game, just doing treasures should also get you all the treasure items. There is a post in this thread somewhere with a list of all the items. Note the treasure items are separate from the Dusty Token rewards, which you can see in your statistics menu. The final reward is what I'm gunning for. Given that you can get like 8 treasures every 12 hours if you have completed the game apparently, you should definitely be able to do this if you pick it up on Friday.

This game just tried to do way too much. The resulting lack of focus really hurt it. It's a really big shame because Gravity Rush was such a focused, fun little game that always made sure to keep the story and encounter design changing so the gameplay never got stale. It also seems like that huge increase in budget may have sunk it too just given how things have progressed.

Why not just make the online trophies and online rewards available in some offline methods. Or just do cheat codes for them.
