Sim City for DS. I wanted to try to get into the genre and I was on a DS collecting rampage. Just not my type of game.

Duck Game for ps4. It was 4 dollars but it's been on the system for a year and seems to never want to work online.

Halo 5

Bought it to justify my Xbox a bit more beyond Forza and 4K Blurays. Played about an hour and was appalled at how bad it looks and how boring it is. Meh.

It took until post 73 but I knew it would be here somewhere.

Worst game I've ever played (I include Sonic 2006 in that). I was fooled by the amazing art but like two minutes in,..I knew I'd made a mistake.

Imma keep bringing this up whenever this type of topic comes up because it hurt me so bad, but:

"You can either battle monsters for items/money or experience points but not both" has got to be one of the worst mechanics of any RPG. It does nothing but double the length of grinding. I don't know what they were thinking with that.

I bought arms and I dislike the fighting genre.

This game should not be sold full price, it is so lean in content and gameplay I could not believe 90$CAN just went to the trash.
This. But at least I was able to trade it back to Gamestop for more than I initially paid for it.

Its a 2012 mobile game that looks like it was blown up to fit on a TV.

Hard to understand this complaint. For one, you saw what it looked like before you bought it, and it has more depth and content than any mobile game I've played.

I don't think it's fantastic or terrible, i just imagine it's easy to regret purchases if you create some fantasy expectations.

The Deus Ex game: the recap was a bit hokey and concerned me quickly, and the first mission was frustrating. Clearly not my style. Besides, paying $20 for the bin copy was still too much just to get called a bellend.

This piece of shit:

faShS6V.jpg

I LOVED Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness and I blind bought it day-one thinking it was going to have at least some RPG elements to it.

What do I get? A BATTLE SIMULATOR WITH LITERALLY ZERO CONTENT BEYOND 3D BATTLES... THAT COULD BE COMPLETED IN LIKE 12 HOURS.

A far cry from the awesome GameCube Pokemon RPGs, utterly devoid of substance or effort, and a complete and utter waste of $50.

I'm still furious about it 11 years later.

Same :( I also thought this game was like XD or even a like a Pokemon stadium. But wtf was this game. Such a bare bones in content that I was confused for a while thinking....where's the game at.

and what made it worse for me is that I didn't have a DS or pokemon diamond /pearl at the time so game was ultra bare bones for me. AND I couldn't get WiFi to work with my Wii at the time due to it lacking a lan port

This game was such a devestating purchase.

I'd never have bought it, but I supported the kickstarter at the beginning and regretted it in the end.

Attack on Titan 2. Not a bad game by any means, but I just knew it was an impulse purchase that I wouldn't spend time playing.

Does DMC2 count if it came as part of the HD collection? Cuz I booted it up thinking "it can't be that bad" and completely changed my mind after the first mission.

Earth Defense Force 4.1. Everything was sloooow (movement, shooting, enemies) and the somewhat over-the-top dialogue had gone from being campy to just awful. Refunded after 50 minutes.

The game was completely devoid of the Zelda charm that drew me into the series in the first place and replaced it with repetition ubisoft game play, with breakable weapons and virtually nothing to do.

Battle Revolution was originally going to have a story mode but it ended up getting cut as it was rushed out the door so it could be the first Wii game, except for Europe, to showcase the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection.

The music was petty good though as was Infernape 3D model.

I am sure there's a lot more but some that come to mind:

Far Cry 5 - I forced myself so hard to like that series and I just don't.
Shadow of Mordor - Couldn't get into it at all.
Yooka Laylee - Couldn't stand the controls.

I bought Extinction when it was 60% off. Knew it wasn't that well received but I thought it would be some mindless fun. But it just feels not good to play at all.

My regrets are more like I purchased at full price and didnt bother playing it types of regrets... I have tons of games unplayed bought at full price :(

Ni No Kuni 2, Kirby: Star Allies, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water (Collectors), Uncharted: Lost Legacy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Zelda Twilight Princess HD (Collectors) and many many more..

I've bought a lot of shitty games through the years though which I regret buying.. but I actually played them a bit which makes it easier to swallow...

The Mummy Demaatered. I played it for a couple of hours, and it's close to being an enjoyable game, but there are a handful of decisions that really bum me out.

Diablo 3 UEE: Did not think I would like it, but seeing the universal praise for it, I just had to get it (18euro). Played an hour, and that's about it. Plan on giving it another chance.

Modern warfare 3: The MP sucked.
Advanced warfare: jet packs seemed cool and all before release, but I hated the game.
Infinite warfare: I disliked the beta, so was not going to buy it, but wanted COD4 so got the bundle when it was on sale. Worst of all I ended up hating what they had done to COD4 with all the lootbox shenanigans.
(I do love black ops 3! )

Battlefield 1: I 100% understand why people love this game. But I think I do not enjoy it as much since I do not have any gamer-friends. The few times I have been in half a decent squad I have loved the game, but more often that not the squads suck. Half the time you die you didn't even see it coming, which is frustrating to me. I was not in love with battlefield 4 either , so was not planning on getting 1 but caved in when Revolution went on sale; just really wanted to get into BF.

Far cry 4: A great game, but I was not enjoying it much. It was just too similar to FC3 I found.

Dead island: Just hated that game... lol ( I do like Dying light, but a pet peeve of mine still is durability)

Max Payne 3: I do have good memories of it now, but at the time I hated how it kept taking control away from me. Saying that, would not mind another one

plus quite a few vita games...

Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns.

As someone who loved both XIII & XIII-2, bought the collectors edition for all 3 + the Guide so I can go in and play the game then shortly after completing the game go for a 100%.

I should NOT have to refer to the guide to know where the hell I'm going within the first 2 hours of gameplay. it was convoluted and confusing, I did not personally enjoy it and was highly disappointed in the game.

Ni no Kuni 2

I can't think of another game that disappointed me so much that quickly.

And

FF Type 0 , one of the most boring games i ever played

Oh man, that's another one. The only good thing about that was the FFXV Demo. I remember in the previews people talked about this being the 'Mature' FF game, man what were they even talking about? It's total c-tier JRPG schlock.

I have made about 10-ish Steam refunds during the years it has been available. I don't really remember all the games but this was one of them.

header.jpg

Tried Dark and Light as my first game of the sort because I love fantasy stuff and it looked pretty.
Even tho I set everything to low in the video options it kept chugging at like 5 FPS.

And now when I went to look at it on the Steam store I saw that they have this gif on the store page. Hah.

I rarely regret game purchases tho. Aside from Steam purchases where I take some "risks" with games thanks to the refund system, I am very careful when choosing which games to buy.

I don't think the idea is inherently terrible, they just had terrible execution. Persona 5 used a similar concept with the demon negotiation and it worked out great.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for pc. Me and my dad loved the first 3 games on pc but we never played more than like 20 minutes of this because we had no idea they like changed the entire game to some mission based action game.

Also it's pretty interesting seeing so many people disapointed by Pokemon Battle Revolution thinking it was somehow an rpg. It's not a good game but it was clearly a successor to Pokemon Stadium.

Oh that's probably the least offensive thing about that game lol

Man this thread was worth it for this story.

My pick's Resistance 2. I realized pretty early in that something was seriously wrong here, what a dud of a campaign compared to the original.
I'm glad my misfortune entertained you lol!

I have another misfortune story - it was when Tomb Raider came out in 1996 for the PS1. I remember driving to the Gadsden Mall, which is about 40 minutes from my home and when I got there, they had literally 20 copies of Snatcher on Sega CD and it was marked down to $9.99! Had I known then what it was, I would have bought every single fucking copy of that game!

Anyways, it's now around 7 PM and dark and on the way home, the worst storm I've ever witnessed occurred and it was raining so bad I literally had to pull off the road for over 30 minutes because you couldn't see through the rain. It was that bad. I kept telling myself this game better be incredibly good for having to weather this storm - and fortunately, it was :)

Just another fun little anecdote in the life of Black Chamber!

Sadly Bayonetta 2 (+1)
I'm sure it's a good game, a great one even, but it's unfortunately not my game. I think it's the genre.
I wanted to like it, but the fast combat and the combos aren't my thing at all.
I secretly wish it had more of a Souls-like approach to it's combat, but I think that would seriously clash with the tone of the game, so nevermind.
