Your post will be funny in about an hour. The first mantis I encountered looked so cute I thought it was a NPC... so I walked right up to it.
It went about as well as you can imagine.
Once you have an achievement called "Respect," do it again.

I'm not liking it as much as I expected.
The mechanics of the maps, especially, are making me very bitter
Speaking of having lots of geo,
What's the purpose of the fountain in the ancient basin? How much geo do I have to feed it?
So, I played this game for like 8-10 hours on PC and never got back to it for whatever reason. I'm playing it on switch, got deeper than I was before and holy shit. I hit a phase in my travels where I was just stumbling through new "no map" zones nonstop and I had unequipped the compass too.
I've already done it. I still don't like how it works, I would prefer it to be like in the rest of metroidvaniasOnce you buy the shop items that allow you to fill in the map with save points, and the charm that shows your location, it gets much better.
Seems like it was done intentionally to force people to explore at the very beginning. Explore and try to collect around 300-400 of the currency and it will get much better.
Yep, they're free and should've been delivered as updates to your steam copySo I have the PC version, played it upon release, beat it then forgot about it. I see this comes with all the expansions/add-ons included. Were they free on PC? I don't see an option to purchase them on steam and don't see anything notifying me that I have them on Steam. Was considering purchasing this on Switch. Would like some clarification if any one knows.
Yes everything that is on Switch is also on PC free of charge. So I have the PC version, played it upon release, beat it then forgot about it. From the Grimm Troupe DLC...
Have you upgraded the three fragile charms to unbreakable?
Do I have anything to spend money on other than the last nail upgrade and the charm vendor's blessing? I have cleared both shops in Dirtmouth and the charm vendor out of merchandise.Iirc 3000 Geo. Not worth it unless you've run out of things to spend your money on. It's necessary for 100% completion.
TY. I still may pick it up to play on the big screen. Team Cherry can have my money.Yep, they're free and should've been delivered as updates to your steam copy
Agree with I've seen a lot of people say on this thread about the final boss
Pretty straightforward and kind of underwhelming. I expected to die way more than once, especially recently coming off of Traitor Lord. I still don't think I really know the boss's patterns all that well and that's just the thing - you don't really need to to beat him. And unlike Traitor Lord, plenty of opportunities to easily heal in this fight, if and when needed.
Bravo, Team Cherry. What an amazing experience. Thank you for creating such a wonderful game. I don't know if I'll have it in me to get the full completion percentage, but I'm certainly going to keep playing a bit more - which is something I almost never do once the credits roll.
That's because that fight is kind of a prelude to the actual final boss, which you fight when going for the true ending :)Agree with I've seen a lot of people say on this thread about the final boss

Ah I see. Not surprising - I figure that this involvesIf you want that challenging final boss, consider going for that true ending. You'll have to learn patterns and moves there
Ah I see. Thanks for letting me know. Welp. That's because that fight is kind of a prelude to the actual final boss, which you fight when going for the true ending :)
This is complicated. On one hand, the game is downright germophobic when it comes to holding your hand. This game makes a horrible work in explaining you what you are supposed to do
Otherwise looks great
Ok ty!
Unfortunately I ended the ritual before knowing I could do that...
It's no different than souls games, once you get the map and a few other items from the shop, you can easily explore new places and getting to the required area which everything will make sense then. This game makes a horrible work in explaining you what you are supposed to do

Vessel, though bound, you shall know the state of the world.
Very impressive. I started posting questions about where to go in this thread because I had no clue where to go/what to do, even with a decent number of paths to explore. This is complicated. On one hand, the game is downright germophobic when it comes to holding your hand.
On the other, there have only been a handful of times in this massive game when I didn't know what to do, and I usually just...figured it out. When in doubt, go explore a blank spot on the map or return to a character who sent you on a quest. The audio/visual cues for progression are there, though subtle, with for example
.the essence particle effect twice clueing you in on what to do for the true ending
I only think it was once I needed help here (someone told me to cycle through a character's dialogue---they didn't start out saying the thing I needed to hear).
Is there a way to view how many grubs I currently found? Or do I have to manually count?
Which do I count? Only the ones on the foreground or do the blurred out ones in the background count?
Holy shit. I've been playing this on and off on Switch in between sessions of Titan Quest and Destiny 2 on PS4, and holy shit, I just blew 40 minutes on some tough-as-nails spike+centipedes+pogo-bounces environmental puzzle for a nice but ultimately questionable reward. I wonder if the game has a double jump, and if so, if it would have helped immensely there. Because damn. Only saving grace was the Homeward Bone (Dark Souls) trick to a very nearby bench with hot springs. Otherwise, I wouldn't even have bothered. Now to figure out how to get back to Zote, now that I have the map for this place, finally...

snip
I've opened up Black Temple, should I go ahead and try to clear it or is it a save until the end thing. Still have a few areas to get to.
Damnit, just inadvertently locked myself out of fighting NKG... Is there any way to undo what I've done or is that it?
That's it. The first time around on PC, i made a copy of the save file so I could see both routes. Not so easy to do on switch. I'm going NKG route once I get back to that point on Switch.
