IGN article: 26th Annual DICE Awards Game of the Year Nominees Announced - IGN

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) has announced its nominees for the 26th D.I.C.E. Awards, with Santa Monica Studios' God of War: Ragnarok leading the pack with 12 nominations.

The annual video game award recognizes the best games of the year as chosen by the members of the AIAS, and the winners are chosen at an annual awards show hosted in Las Vegas. This year's event will be hosted on February 23 on IGN.

This year's awards will be co-hosted by Kinda Funny's Greg Miller and IGN's own Stella Chung, with IGN as the official media partner of the event. Check below for the full list of game of the year nominees which alongside God of War include Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, Stray, and Vampire Survivors.

Solid list, no massive surprises

Poinpy finally getting its dues. Nice seeing Citizen Sleeper pop up in the RPG category.

looks like devs love Stray as much as the media

Gibbon looks great but I'm worried it's a tearjerker, been holding off on it

Yeah Elden Ring in Animation over Art Direction is a bit head scratching. The animation in Elden Ring is... fine I guess? A lot of it is animations from past games, and outside of that is nothing particularly special to me, but I get that animation in a Souls type game is crucial to the combat. Idk. I feel like art direction is more fitting, personally, but I guess the peers in the industry think otherwise which is fine.

The Action category is also a bit silly as Grounded doesn't really seem like an Action game, nor does Vampire Survivors.

Personally, I would've liked to see Pentiment given a nom in Character, Adventure, or Story. I much preferred it over NORCO, so I would have swapped placed with it given the option.

No elden ring in art direction (but CoD is?)
No Xenoblade in music or characters
Can't comment on anyting else but those two are the big omissions for me.

The nominees are selected based on over 30k industry academy members if I heard Stella and Greg right, so 🤷‍♂️

Elden Ring for Story Nominations will never be not weird to me. Especially since Requiem could've made the cut.

I think DICE generally has the weirdest choices of any of the major gaming awards, but Elden Ring being denied even a nomination for art direction has to be right there with Untitled Goose Game's GOTY win as the strangest yet.

Wow… they snubbed XC3 hard in many categories (music, characters and GOTY). Because of that I am predisposed to hate these awards.

DICE is always a bit weird, but some of the choices are especially baffling.

Aloy and Atreus for character but no Marissa Marcel? No Pentiment? No Elden Ring in art direction?

These two were the most obvious misses for me. Especially the Kirby one, like wtf 😂

Game design could probably have Neon White instead of GoW:R, but that's debatable.

Horizon being in best game direction is weird, but I notably don't like the Horizon games because I think they are average at best, so I'm very biased.

No mention of Signalis or Pentiment is interesting, and kinda sad.

lol Elden Ring not being nominated for art direction is trash. Sure Horizon and gow look technically better , but Elden ring has a way more unique style and made me say wow more due to the visuals more than any other game

They also gave the GOTY to Fallout 4 against Witcher 3 and Bloodborne in 2015. 🤔

I really like Elden Ring, but was it really one of the top 5 stories of the year???

The most I can say about the story after playing through the game, is that there was more of it than previous souls games, outside of Sekiro.
