now .. how do we know which movies used single or double layer profiles?
..... im probably not even reading that whitepaper right lol

Having not seen Infinity War yet, I am steering very clear of that thread.
Here's Dolby's whitepaper on their Dolby Vision technology, which discusses the different profiles.
I don't know how that person would know what profile or level of DV was used, unless they were in charge of, or associated with, the mastering of the movie.now .. how do we know which movies used single or double layer profiles?

Sony had a big fiasco with their TVs when they finally pushed out Dolby Vision. Their TVs were updated to use a specific profile of Dolby Vision and it required the connected devices to "catch up." I remember a lot of grumpy people on AVSForum at the time. :PEither I missed something, or it went over my head, but I don't see much specifics about how the two different profile layers differ. It only seems to mention strings for detection of which layer profile it is.
Is T2 on 4K really that bad?
It's currently ten bucks on Amazon
From what I read, mileage may vary. It seems it does have some improvements here and there but the changes to the colour grading may turn most off. For $10 it won't cost you much to find out.Is T2 on 4K really that bad?

I see some posts elsewhere saying some of the Japanese re-releases have been DNR'd too? It's a shame if that's the case. :(What are the best English friendly Blu-Ray releases to get of Ghibli films? I've been avoiding the StudioCanal UK ones that (for the cel animated films) had extra DNR applied to them. Are the US GKids ones any good?
It's so irritating that the UK/Ireland have to wait an extra 3 weeks for the Infinity War UHD, especially as it released earlier over here in the cinema. It's been tough avoiding spoilers for this long
So yesterday I decided to redeem my digital codes for UHD movies, so I could watch them away from home as well. What a damn mess that system is. It's crazy that there's a literal Google Docs spreadsheet to figure out how to best redeem those codes.
That's an extremely generous offer, I may take you up on that. In the meantime you are welcome to my Pacific Rim Uprising 4K code.4K discs are region free. Order from Amazon US. If Amazon doesn't work and you don't want to wait, PayPal me the cost, I'll pick up a copy on release day at Target on the 14th and mail it to you.
Why does itunes have deadpool2 in 4k but vudu only has the hdx 1080p version ... ?
Ever since Disney finally started releasing 4K discs, my belief has been that we'll get the full Star Wars back catalogue in 4K with the home video/digital release of Episode IX. I expect we'll get a wide variety of new box sets in various formats, likely with updated branding and features. The whole situation with them is annoying me. The were 18 months late to the UHD party and when they did show up the output has been lazy and substandard, despite having some of the most popular films in the world. Their back catalogue releases are non existent (where the utter fuck is Rogue One). I'll bet avengers 1 and 2 are lazy upscales as well.
Although it's not very popular, pretty sure Fandango Now has FOX UHD. I had to buy The Greatest Showman from there because it was my only 4k option at the time.I would say so. Disney UHD is the only major thing it lacks, but I'm in Apple's corner when it comes to pricing, so I'm glad they're holding out. It does have Fox UHD, which none of the other services have. Not sure how the Disney acquisition will affect that.
Apple also has pretty insane sales on UHD movies. I've gotten lots of good movies for $5-10. Got the whole MI collection for $30. No other platform matches them there.

CNET reviewThe LG UP875 4K UHD/3D Blu-ray player is $79.99 (originally $199.99) at Best Buy: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-up875-4k-ultra-hd-3d-blu-ray-player-black/5979504.p?skuId=5979504
Worth it? Would like to have a 4K player around by the time Avengers: Infinity War releases. We're planning on getting the Target exclusive version, which finally comes with a 4K disc as well as the standard Blu-ray.
That sounds pretty great. I'll see if we can go pick one up soon. Thanks!
Hmm I'd definitely shoot them an email and let them know. They can be surprisingly helpfulMan.... I guess when I bought John wick 2 in uhd and put in the digital code on Vudu I got hdx, 4k wasn't available in Vudu then I guess.... Fast forward to today and it's available in 4k and now I have to double dip?
Whyyyyyy
Okay, I'll try and see!!Hmm I'd definitely shoot them an email and let them know. They can be surprisingly helpful

Unfortunately, it looks like the audio still has the same issue as the last few releases from Disney.
:(they ain't gonna fix it anytime soon as no one seems to be complaining about it on a large scale
Your avatar plus name-dropping Family Video definitely has me pegging you as a Hoosier.
Guilty, lol. The only other ones I saw were Thor Ragnarok, Logan and TLJ but I'm sure there's more.I need to stop falling for Best Buy's steelbooks. The vast majority of the time I don't like the cover and the $5 premium adds up.

Pacific Rim: Uprising is a stellar disc! The picture quality is top-notch and the Atmos mix is fun and engaging.
The Last Jedi is good enough, but not as good as it should be. And it suffers from Disney's Atmos-itis. I can't speak for Thor: Ragnarok, but Logan is also a damned good disc. I can't speak for the Atmos mix, as I watched it before I upgraded, but it's supposed to be a mix, as well.Guilty, lol. TLJ is one of the few 4k discs I own. I was pretty underwhelmed, to be honest. Thor Ragnarok I have in 4k via Vudu and that was treat to watch. The Last Jedi is good enough, but not as good as it should be. And it suffers from Disney's Atmos-itis. The Gal Pal hasn't seen Logan and has saying for a while she wants to. I had forgotten that the 4K UHD disc comes in bother original theatrical presentation and black and white. I don't know which version I'd show her! I've not yet watched the Noir version, so the selfish part of me says B&W. Haha!I didn't hear all of Logan's Atmos track, but the casino seizure is a top tier demo moment for sure.

If you can do in-ceiling (own your property, for example), do it. Up-firing speakers, as good as they may (or may not) be, having overhead sound truly come from overheard is, unequivocally, the better choice.I use small speakers (KEF eggs specifically) for my 5.1 setup. That would make adding 2 upward firing almost speakers difficult - so am I looking at in-ceiling?
So, nowhere near the work that was done for Fury Road's B&W version?Noir's interesting. There are some really good landscape shots but overall it looks like a color film converted to b&w. I'd say start with color. The standard Fox intro is also replaced with an old school "20th Century Fox Presents a Cinemascope Film" intro too. That was pretty cool.
So, nowhere near the work that was done for Fury Road's B&W version?
Though I can of course just watch the 4K streaming version...though Fandango Now sometimes randomly glitches out the video where I'll end up with a messy screen, though that only seems to happen when you fast-forward/rewind or first start it up, but it last a few seconds.
i cant find it on amazon. all the versions are $20 or more. i am willing to spend $10 to find out on my own. can you please link me?Is T2 on 4K really that bad?

It's a great transfer! I bought the disc a few weeks back after hearing how good the 4K UHD Blu-Ray was; it's a fun movie, if nothing else, but the transfer is excellent and the DTS:X mix utilizes all the speakers well.Man, I should have waited and spent a few more bucks to get the 4K disc version of The Mummy (1999) for future proofing when I got it a few months ago.
That first picture of streaming Incredibles can't be right. I wonder if your settings are wrong for that "App" input on your TV? Where were you streaming from? Looks like the disc is HDR while the stream isn't, although it could just be the pictureTesting out the 4K player now with the only 4K disc I have, The Incredibles. Looks nice. Noticeably nicer than the 4K streaming version.
Might pick up some more movies tomorrow if I get the chance. In the meantime, I'm gonna see how some regular Blu-rays and DVDs look on it.
Edit: Damn, Blu-rays look really great on this. I mean, they always looked great, but I think the quality seems nicer than when I tried them on the PlayStation 4 Pro. They also load a lot faster than on that.
Edit 2: Yeah, I tried out a Blu-ray disc that had noticeable compression and pixelation when upscaled on the PlayStation 4 Pro, but I don't see any on this 4K player. Just nice, clear picture. Looks so good!
Edit 3: DVDs look okay. Not great, but perfectly watchable.
:(
Both are the disc. It's just the angle and camera brightness. I just wanted to show off the player in the first pic. That first picture of streaming Incredibles can't be right. oh, hahahaha my bad. Would you say the streaming version looks better than if you had the bluray in the UHD player? My thinking is that the HDR should set it over your usual bluray qualityBoth are the disc. It's just the angle and camera brightness. I just wanted to show off the player in the first pic.
It really, really is. Huge improvement over all previous releases. Just wish I had it on disc. Hah. Someday, I'll get around to that...though it seems like no stores have it locally right now.
