Knight King Arthur hate.
Mineta hate.
Angel Beats hate.

I will not stand for such nuanced dislike of the things I like in anime. I just will not. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Please.

Machio sitting in the audience in his macho form but with a hat on to hide might be the funniest gag this entire season

Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai 2

Poor Kirino certainly couldn't confide in her friend, Kanako, who detested the otaku in their classroom. Then Kanako gives her lip for being a hardworking model. What's a girl to do? Kyousuke's new plan—thanks to his childhood friend—leads to meeting with other fanatics online and offline. When his friend is brought into the picture, Kirino's sour attitude towards her might've hinted at something beneath the surface. Anyway, off to Akibahara!

Kirino: "Don't stay near me!" -> "We're going together!"
Kyousuke: "???"

A dejected Kirino after having to split up with Kyousuke for the offline meeting was odd. I thought she wanted to keep a distance? Everyone still thought he was her boyfriend, despite not wanting it to look like a date. Is that just a result of the circumstances? It's hard to say when she dresses up so much for it. Speaking of mixed signals, Kirino... gay derivative works don't deserve the same amount of scrutiny as lolicon ones. How are these kids just browsing porn sections anyway? Those rules must be lax no matter how wrapped up the materials are.

mfHQ1cW.png

Kuroneko is a gloomy kid, but holding her own while clashing with Kirino was cool; the other girls couldn't even get past Kirino's exterior. They're kind of in a same boat, but it's interesting how Kirino is taken aback when Kuroneko brushes off commentary on her dress. Clearly impressed by Kuroneko's boldness, things that Kirino's takes as an attack on her identity hardly fazed Kuroneko. Looks like they have some things to learn from each other.

TIIwf9a.jpg

Even Dad criticizes Kirino's fashion during dinner. Scrutinized throughout this episode for being fashionable, her externalized vulnerabilites need work. Mom only asked her where she went all day? Poor Kyousuke. Maybe it's because Kirino's younger. So, to sum up the episode's events, she's under pressure at school and at home due to her secret hobby and her job. At least she had fun going around stores with her new friends, right? And she still had time for her homework at the end. Such discipline... where does it come from?

Before, I had said Kirino's design is somewhat restrained, but she's in different clothes all the time. And not just clothes, almost everything gets swapped around. From necklaces, shoes, bags, earrings, even her nails. Her look changes so frequently that it's relatively refreshing for a character. It's a huge part of her identity too, as she states in this episode. However, the contrast with her more childish appearance at home makes her seem repressed. For better or for worse, finding more outlets to express herself must be nice. Imagine just how wound up she was before the start of the series.

The only thing she hasn't swapped out so far is her hairpins. Sentimental reasons? Certain moments might be hinting at the idea that Kirino's hobby could be a redirection of feelings comparable to romantic love. But it's too hard to tell only 2 episodes in.

I don't get the Arthur hate. He seems like the usual protag's rival character which doesn't seem to warrant the backlash.
They still bicker, as per usual, but it seems far less pronounced than usual, doesn't it? More lighthearted. Or at least, it feels that way to me. Like that giddy up bit. This might have more to do with the overall tone and humour of Fire Force. The humour is very hit and miss, in general, while I'm on this topic. Sometimes, the absurdist humour is genuinely funny. Sometimes.

I think most that came in around the gag(?) that he almost died because he was using his sword in his off hand. He's not a bad character so far, but the bit with the sword in the last episode was exceptionally dumb.

I'm still left wondering if that was some roundabout Princess Bride nod that didn't translate well.

Is he? Since he introduced he have more Bonding moment with Shinra than anyone else. Those bed scene are cute btw, so I like him. Shinra and Him definitely better and less mundane when on screen together.

I think so but it's more of an occupational rivalry than some sort of larger story related divide. There's definitely a sense of competition and different philosophies but that's probably tempered by having immediate superiors that keep them in check.

they did know each other from before when they got to join the squad so hoping we do get more on how they first met and their time at whatever school third-gens go to.

Ace of Diamond Act II Episode 20 - Self Assertive

Asada is so cute, that was honestly really amazing seeing him carry his team forward, though it cant be stated enough that Okumura is just plain amazing and pretty clear to see we need him and Sawamura to form the greatest battery of all time. Will be amazing.

Taku was great too. Need him on the first string.

Huh, hadn't realized Angel Beats was widely disliked. I was in a certain place emotionally when I watched it years ago, but it's a very special anime to me. If I watched it again, I'm sure there's a whole lot I'd dislike about it, but in my memory I still enjoy it so much.

Try Knights Episode 3

Riku going behind the scenes and trying to schedule the game against rivals was great.

Really good discussions all around. Am excited to see if he will get to devise a plan to control the team.

The new "restoration" of Millenium Actress is absolute trash. Saw it tonight via Fathom Events. They butchered the linework. Looks like shit.

Wow. that sucks. The movie deserves better.

millennium actress restoration wasn't perfect but I don't think it was really that distracting. maybe I'm not just as picky as some of yall about digital restorations. there were actually a few grammatical and timing errors in the subs that were more distracting to me.

the film itself is still incredible, though. one of the greatest love letters to cinema alongside synecdoche new york and mulholland drive

Maybe they should've dubbed it opposed to releasing it as subs. Since that would've made it more accessible to an English speaking audience. Well that's probably asking for too much though, since it's definitely more costly.

Millennium Actress is my favorite Satoshi Kon movie, I wish this restoration gave the best viewing experience. But more exposure is better than none.

I'm rewatching Toradora as I haven't seen it since its original run and I remember feeling really off/on about the show. It had great animation and voice acting but some of the writing is poor especially towards the end. Some important characters aren't even characters, just plot devices like Kitamura. Takemiya is generally an okay writer even if I disliked Golden Time. The show brings back memories from high school for sure though.

YGO VRAINS Episode 114

Okay whoever is writing this season of YGO really knows how to make me get all emotional and teary eyed. Roboppi devolving into its cleaning bot AI and taking that direct hit without even understanding what was happening just made me all sad, and then Playmaker reminiscing about it and the happy times it brought him just made it even more emotional.

Glad Soulburner won but wow at this episode.

it is getting a dub release, but niche arthouse stuff like Kon isn't going to get significantly more attention for having a dub

Been a while since I watched Angel Beats. I thought it was great at the time.

Then again my taste was different. I enjoyed Highschool of the Dead and Btooom back then.
HOTD is probably still fun these days provided you want trashy stupid fun but Btooom though...

Lets just say that my younger self had some really shit taste sometimes.
Is it worth finishing Dororo? I took a break after episode 15.
You just reminded me that I never continued watching it. Such a shame what it turned into the latter half.
I might have to watch the remining episodes soon after I watch the first season of Sound! Euphonium.

Cannon Busters Episode 1:

Well, this is certainly drinking from the cup of Cowboy Bebop, though I can't say I am in love with this series, mainly due to some of the characters substituting quirky for an actual personality; robots they may be.

Halfway through my Toradora re-watch and holy shit Kitamura is an asshole and this show is a lot worse than I remember.

Not only does he frivolously ask a beautiful girl out to make his debut, he doesn't give the girl a straight answer a year later when she confesses to him. During the beach episode he "accidentally" walks into the vacation house kitchen butt naked when there are 3 girls present. Later on he thows a completely childish tantrum by going all Yankee and skipping class just because his crush is leaving to study abroad. When the class begs him to run for class president and he dyes his hair back and says he'll do it, he later changes his mind and needs coercion from Ryuuji to follow through with it so he straight up lied to his classmates. Then the fucking cherry on top that makes him irredeemable is during his acceptance speech he confesses to his crush in front of an auditorium and fucking peer pressures her for an answer with fucking Taiga standing right there who still hadn't gotten a proper answer from her confession what a fucking piece of shit character he is.

The writer then had the fucking gall to make the crush the bad guy in the situation for not answering him and Taiga straight up assaults her. Fuck this series lol. I was 50/50 on it back in the day but now that I'm older this shit is terrible.

It still isn't as bad as Golden Time somehow.

I remembered thinking I should get into the manga after the anime ended, but never bothered. I always give some sort of pass to "battle royale" premises, though. And it's, what, Future Diary, Btooom!, Fate/Zero, and Magical Girl Raising Project?

What is wrong with Btoom? Some stupid fanservice aside it's still (until the translations catch up I guess) a pretty decent battle royale story.

Was he? I honestly don't remember. I remember him being a useless NEET that
got thrown into the game by his family.
Were there worse things about his character that I don't remember?
That's pretty much a incel, my dude.

He also loathing real world and iirc been tempted to rape the high school girl companion but canceling that.

I don't think I watched much battle royale animes. First ones thst comes to mind is this and Future Diary (I couldn't watch this adter a while, the whole yandere bullshit and the main protagonist were really annoying). Btooom came at a time when I enjoyed "edge" and action but these days this kind of anime is a hit or miss depending on my mood.

On a rewatch I found the characters to be really bland and unlikable. And the way it handles rape was disgusting enough to make me drop it on the rewatch.

I didn't remember it that way when I watched it back when it first came out.

Shirobako | 9

Lots of stuff happened this episode. From Zuka-chan's debut (as a background extra, but it's a start) to last minute ending rewrite. Also that short-haired girl (what's her name again?) is sick of doing the same shit over and over again. Got a feeling that she'll leave the company and work somewhere else later on.

Musani is about to get a new anime gig which I assume will be the central focus of the second cour once they're done with Exodus

Looking forward to finish this show!

It had a bunch of good ideas and a nice premise, but there was too much time wasted of fluff episodes that could have been cut, instead of fully exploring the world.

It had a full visual novel and at least 26 episodes worth of ideas, but had a 13 episode runtime, yet still manage to have what felt like filler episodes. The creator, Maeda (Clannad, Air, Kanon, Little Busters), ended up making a multi part VN for Angel Beats just to flesh out the world more since the anime was poorly paced out (though only part 1 was ever released).

My opinion of Angel Beats had gone up though after watching Maeda's second original anime, Charlotte. At least Angel Beats had a good (if not slightly rushed) ending. Charlotte manages to fit an entire season's worth of plot ideas into the last episode, but has enough time for a baseball episode, a camping episode, and 2 music videos.

Angel beats was always intended to be a multi-media franchise, back before such a thing was common. The VN was obviously planned to come out earlier than it did, but then it took 5 years from Jun mentioning that he was writing it, to it actually releasing. Then he got sick and needed a heart transplant or something, so only 1 of the 6 planned VN ever came out (they were supposed to come out every 6 months), making the whole thing a complete mess. Its doubtful that the rest of the VN will ever actually release, so they started working on a manga instead that will complete the story.

They should have just released a 26 episode show.
