I had a great time playing over the weekend, game looks gorgeous and runs well on the PS5, can't wait to see the final product in November.

The game is buggy and there were some baffling decisions made, but if they can clean it up a ton and have basic features that have always been in previous games working at launch it will be very fun.

Hmm. It's ok and understandable not wanting the game to be delayed further, but reading through this thread, I'm not sure it's a minority.

I'm talking about people actively asking for a delay while we don't know the state of the real game.
I know many people have problems with the game, the specialists etc... But it's not things that would change with a delay. Some people seem to want to play another game, and they should...

I want to see the launch game so bad.

The users that used to bitch about female soldiers when 5 was revealed are still posting there. So yeah it's gonna be a toxic place. They like to pretend BF is supposed to be Arma or something when it's always been an arcade shooter.

The BFV stuff was.. well... bad, let's not sugar coat it. People were stupid.

That being said. BF2042 is way more arcadey then previously and does feel like it's trying, more now then ever, to feel like Call of Duty.

It was never a Simulator like Arma but there was clearly still an heavy emphasis on being immersive and highly detailed and overall more tactical.

There's levels to this and with the new game it has swung far far in the opposite direction of classic BF.

Like it should be a bit weird when most of the praise of the game is coming from Big CoD people and not Big BF people. It's clear who the game was more targeted to. And I say that as a CoD guy way more than a BF guy.

Also, I had an interesting bug this morning.
Took a picture with my phone to send to a friend, didn't think of doing a screen cap 🙄
I don't really recognize other specialists that we know of, so I don't know who they are...

I've decided to use my one month of EA Play to full extent and downloaded BFV. Visibility problems are still a thing (those pesky enemies hiding in the bushes on Pacific maps!), but I think I'll give it one more chance. I didn't like it at the beginning, gave it another shot some time after launch, still nothing, but now... yeah, I think I'll stick to BFV and BF1.

On a side note, a buddy of mine, who was extremely hyped for BF2042 (there was literally no other MP game that interested him) has decided to cancel his preorder on PS5. Another friend is in "I'll probably buy it when it's on sale" camp. Both are lifelong BF players. It's just so disheartening to see your favourite franchise moving away from the foundations that made it special.

Aren't the ones on the right from BF3?
Yeah looks like BF3. Someone posted all probably available specialists at launch earlier in the thread, so these are probably skins?
Classic skins coming your way for the low price of 19.99 a piece.

Tactics in BF is just looking at what everyone in your squad is playing and picking something that gels with the group. Oh this guys driving a tank I'll spawn as engineer with repair tool and fix him up as we go or oh they are mostly snipers I'll spawn as support real quick and toss em some ammo. This could easily be fixed in 2042 with just adding symbols to peoples names and above their heads to indicate what their load out is.

As for gameplay outside of 1 and V they've been heavy arcade shooters with no animation priority. 3 and 4 started to add a little bit, but 1 and V were extreme levels of animations that will get you killed like getting into vehicles while in combat. I'm happy to see this more in line with 4, but even slightly faster.

Had a great time with the beta, (I played on Series X, but also tried the Xbox One beta for 64 player map layout) I also noticed more teamwork happening now - more medkits/ammo placed down, people reviving.
Saw a whole heap of people bailing out of a transport to cap flags, while we tried to hold the point.

I don't feel that I was getting owned by PC players, I think that I was just getting killed by them more often due to the sheer number of them. I still really want console only crossplay - playing against Xbox only players seemed smoother for some reason.

I think Orbital lends itself more to a breakthrough mode and might not have been the best map to show off the beta. In Breakthrough, I can see one team pushing to attack the rocket, while the other team holds them off for it to take off. That was my impression when playing the 64 player conquest (xbox one ver)

Personally didn't have issues identifying enemies, basically if they didn't come up as a friendly - I shoot :)
At least they were mostly visible, I had major issues being able to see players in the earlier days of BFV, and it felt like an eternity to get that fixed.

My main hope for the future is to just keep iterating on the game - every time a new Battlefield is being developed it is like they start from scratch.

This beta solidified my decision not to get this. This just isn't the BF I fell in love with anymore. Honestly there have been very few changes I've liked after Bad Company 2, and 2042 seems to double down on all those changes and then some.

No offense, but everytime someone posts that he/she/they/them is canceling their preorder I can't help but smirk a bit since there is virtually no reason in preordering at this point. I will there be there D1 and won't preorder until early access starts.

But I understand that 60/70 dollars is a lot of money for many and it's valid to wait until the bug count and content is in a better state.

Most Battlefield's are perfectly playable to this day and BF3 forward are still visually striking. Makes the wait easier.

Those are old classes meant to be used in Portal, but UI being buggy shitshow in this build it bugs out like that and shows Portal stuff on Core side. Doubtful those will be skins in Core.

Do we know the sound is being worked on and it's just not the way they intended?

Considering it was very common in beta that audio stuff didn't play at all, cut midway through etc. I surely do hope they still work on it. Still don't expect them to rework existing audio assets so 2042 will sound flatter than previous BF games.

Oh, definitely. But it just shows how hyped he was. The last game he wanted so badly was... Cyberpunk 2077. Let's just say that he wasn't fully satisfied with the final product.

After the beta am thoroughly in the wait and see camp. Ill use the EA Play trial period to see the state of the game on release. If it then still doesn't grab me I'll wait and focus on Halo as my next MP game.

I'm not a Battlefield fan by any means but I played some of V last week and enjoyed my time with it but I'm not into WW2 so I couldn't wait for the beta to get V feels with a modern setting but I was hugely disappointed. It didn't feel like Battlefield. There was no teamwork / camaraderie with randos the way I've had with 4 and V in the past. It was such a lonely experience and felt like a solo game with a huge map. I hope this changes when it comes out either by DICE tweaking stuff or players adjusting to the new game systems over time.

Ended up playing more/having fun towards the end than I expected. Mostly because I stopped playing the PS5 version then downloaded the PC beta and played with m+kb.

If they can just fix controller aiming i'll probably pick it up. My PS5 is stronger than my PC so i'd still rather play there.

I'm not sure it's good thing that games MAA platform is just IFV with modular weapons package. Meaning that you have singular vehicle that you equip with AA weapons, auto-cannon, tank cannon etc. depending on role you want it to fulfill. AA usually being very unrewarding in Battlefield games because of poor game balancing this can easily lead to next to no MAA's around in matches, so there isn't even that tiny amount AA that normally matches have.

This issue compounded by IFV / MAA sharing vehicle quota with MBT's. E.g. in Orbital you can have 2x MBT, 2x MAA, or 1x each because map has such tiny quota for heavier vehicles. Usually match had 2x MBT, 0x MAA at any given time. Vehicle quotas should be by combat role instead of perceived weight class, but even with weight class MBT's and IFV's should be separated. This way you could have e.g. 2x each on Orbital.

Kind of shocked by it really. Usually it sounds stellar, my subwoofer pounds when tank shells fire, heavy weapons fire, now.. it all sounds so tinny. I'm trying to hope they just wanted to keep the size of the file down so more people would try the open beta.

All in all theres 30 vehicles on Orbital (I believe?) is this a hard limit for every map, or just Orbital?
30 vehicles are too few (considering the size of the map), it in itself is a potential problem for many of the larger than Orbital maps.

Having more boom in your audio would have next to no affect on audio asset sizes. It just comes down to mix and in this build audio mix is flat mess of muddied audio.

Apparently 128 player servers have hard cap of 40 vehicles total for CQ. Limits that we saw now are Orbital specific and other maps have their own vehicle type quotas. Some map could have 10 tanks / IFVs and 1 helo / jet per team where another could be suuuuper air focused with next to no MBT / IFB slots.

It's funny how now BFV has so many qualities and is such a good game for a portion of the internet... Probably the same people who have been excessively shitting on it for 2 years.

BFV's foundation was (and is) great. Loved it day one.

A lot of decisions and Tides of War were not.

Adding a map (Lofoten Islands) but it's not playable (and still not) in the most played modes (Conquest / Breakthrough) was a prime example of what was wrong in my opinion. People asked for more maps but who asked for this, really ?

I feel like it finally changed with the Pacific 5.0 update which was what everyone wanted. Felt like the game was finally on track.
Then 5.2 and another TTK fiasco happened for obscure reasons and not long after Tides of War came to a sudden end.

PC got a newer/more refined built, it seems. I noticed improvements that weren`t in the console beta yet.
And yeah, it felt surprisingly good with m+kb. By "surprisingly" I mean, I didn`t need to change any control settings and it still felt less delayed and smoother than BF4 and BF1 which I played recently. Might be because of Nvidia Reflex, I dunno.

Outside of tweaks and server issues, I thought the gunplay was solid. I hope they don't backwards and forwards on combat as they did with BFV. Just start good and tweak and balance from there.

My opinion has turned a little: once the technical issues are fixed (not worried about those), there's something good here and I think the game will be much better on Breakthrough. I still think the core design, at least on Conquest on this map with the 4 operators we have, favors CoD-style lone wolf aping from spawns instead of team dynamics resulting in unspoken but distinct 'frontlines' between control points (a feature of the best BF maps, even without explicit chokepoints), but we'll see how they address this.

They should really really really do another beta or a demo with Breakthrough as an option, better controller default settings, and a much newer build, gut feeling is that they could turn around alot of the unease.

At this point that demo is 10h trial through EA Play for those on the fence. With rest they just YOLO it and hope people bite.

I used to play Battlefield on console for awhile with Battlefield 3 and switched to PC during the tail end of Battlefield 4 but to this day I have no fucking idea how anyone pilots planes and to a lesser extent helicopters with mouse and keyboard.

I still have to have a controller hooked up to switch to quickly if I pick a heli and even with a plane I find it super difficult to kill or see anything without plummeting to the ground.

I tried plane again in the beta and the mouse controllers were so fuckinh sluggish and wonky how the fuck are people flying these things.

With jets you pump mouse DPI through the roof so you can execute tight turns and with helos you lower it so you maintain stability when adjusting tilt.

In general mouse where you can change DPI on the fly is great for flying in BF.

That sounds like a bloody hassle.

Not really as you just pop DPI with quick click of an button that you need in any given situation. But it's shitty when you need to do long arching turn in jet and you need to keep pushing mouse over and over again. With pad you just hold stick to direction X.

Some do fly purely with keyboard for that reason. WASD + arrow keys to flight control and space for fire.

Still kinda shows there's something wrong with the default controls or that they are pretty poor that people make background tweaks to get the best use out of it.

I wonder if that's a reason they are so horrible imbalanced. That they test them using default controls rather than the custom tweaks that players use and devastate matches with.

Once I knew what bugs to work around, what features weren't live, and people started working more together, it started to be pretty god damn fun. The last 2 days of the beta were really enjoyable for me. On a pure gameplay level, I think it feels really good. A wild open sandbox is what I want from these games and that seems to be what we're getting. Gunplay to me on mouse and keyboard feels great to me.

I'm still really excited for the full launch. Here's hoping the bugs/performance is significantly improved. Also I will be immediately toning down that UI in the options if they don't make big changes to it lol. My eyes hurt just thinking about that UI.
