So does this mean we'll soon have a wave of leftists winning with all these conservative groups moving more and more to the right? How come we always get this argument about politics moving "too far left", but rarely or never the other way around?

1. What's considered left and right in the US has no relation with the UK's Overton window. Biden would be a solid Tory here.

2. If we've learned anything from the past few years, so long as you have a media-savvy leader people can "relate" to, you can win even on the most counter-intuitive self-destructive extremist policies.

Spain, Denmark, Finland, Portugal and Germany have shown gains or wins for the left. Where was the left wiped out aside from the UK?

SPD is a shadow of its former self and the less we say about the Soc Dems in Denmark the better.

Portugal is a rare bright spot for sure though, forgot about them.

Oh please. The U.S. is not the UK we are not embroiled in a Brexit situation nor are our governments remotely the same. Not to mention that the UK has a huge issue regarding Scotland now so no, it's not a good analogy.

Oh and I forgot that Trump has been dragging down his party since he was elected. It's like we all forgot the 2018 elections.

I actually meant the german greens, who got a really positive result in the EU elections and are now polling at above 20%. As much as i dislike SPD, they have also chosen a new leader from the left wing of the party.

How is this bafoon going to inspire millennial and gen z voters to show up to vote? The Hilary "I'm not Trump" strategy isn't enough, this man has no real vision on how to improve the country. He's going to be hated by the left and the right.

I don't ever want Joe Biden as president, but his opinion is not baseless. Despite polls supporting many socialist positions, when it comes to getting behind a radical left candidate, older voters (ie the electorate) will simply not vote that way in a general.

This is a fucking stupid take.

Labour won the 2017 election in a landslide with the same radical policies, with the same unpopular leader.

the conservatives had the better catch phrase, the clearest message, «get it done», while labour have spent the last couple of years going from «we have to respect the popular vote» to «we need a better deal» to «we need a new referendum» etc

i hate brexit and the tories, but this victory was so painfully obviously coming

He's not going to try because he doesn't think he has to.

I can already tell his GOTV campaign is going to be complete dogshit, just like Hillary's.

Joe was pretty silent on what caused the 2016 election loss over here I wonder what the difference was? It would be pure stupidity to go after racists whites again after 4 years of having Trump in office.

If anything now is the perfect time to build up a new movement instead of going back to the same 2016 rhetoric that caused us to end here in the first place.

You're not going to win the Senate with a "new movement" and telling everyone who voted for Trump to fuck off. You've got to get some of those Obama --> Trump voters back and turn out progressives/left-leaning folks who stayed home/voted 3rd party last time.

He's right. Probably doesn't need to say it, but he's right.

We're not going to tear down the entire economic system and rebuild it anytime soon. Doesn't matter how much Twitter wants it. Doesn't matter how much I want it.
Yup, the "left" of moderate dems have good ideas that will scare the shit out of the average voter because the "how will it get done" can go wrong or is unknown. Can't blame Biden for pouncing.

We nominated the "safe" candidate last time. Let's not make the same mistake again maybe?

I don't really like him but he is not wrong.

If you looked at data outside of the social media/era bubble yesterdays results were coming.

When boris johnson is more trusted on the healthcare services than corbyn it is clearly a failure.

Dems are more trusted than Rs on healthcare so the analogy is already wrong.

You sure as hell aren't going to get progressives or the Left go get out with Biden acting like this. I can already hear my friends who hel their noses and voted for Hillary outright saying "fuck this" and staying home this time.

Too far to the left is just a a normal politician outside the US. Also, your forgetting the UK is full of right wing idiots, bit like US, so forget the polls on who they trust

Correct me if I'm wrong but the left of center party lost even more than Labor did no? Seems to me like if you wanna make that analogy then being further left is your best bet.

Comments like this show that a Biden presidency is going to have long term consequences. He's sure as shit not gonna do anything progressive and might even uphold some of Trump's policies because "we can't alienate the right wing!", which leads into left wingers being pissed off at Biden and the 2024 republican campaign being "Biden was incompetent and didn't get anything done!"

No one is being told to fuck off unless you're a person who already has a problem with some policies that would improve minorities lives.

The voter's Biden is trying to reach out to already has Trump if they want a party to focus solely on the White people again. Running the lite version of that isn't going to attract a large amount of people from that group to the Democrats side because as time has shown repeatedly is that most of them are perfectly fine with Trump's racist policies.

Uhh the lib dems, the center party, got destroyed.

Hillary lost to Trump in 2016.

Trumps far right rhetoric beat everyone in the republican primary in 2016 as well.

The math doesn't add up here Joe

Well, I guess that's that then. Might as well pack it up and give up, folks.

Unless you're rich, nothing good is ever or will ever be possible ever again except the rapid decline offered by Trump, or the steady decline offered by neoliberal centrist shitbags like Biden.

Also, fuck Biden. Anyone looking at the UK elections will see that this was just as great a loss for the LibDems and centrism as it was for Labour. And to pin this on Labour's policies as if every poll doesn't show the UK electorate supporting it is just a really shitty take.

This is exactly it. Republicans have free reign to push the political landscape far to the right for decades, then we have politicians like Biden telling us why we should always cede ground and never expect anything better. Again, fuck Biden.

Counterpoint: every last Trump voter can fuck off into the sun. Motivate nonvoters.

Reducing the election to a left vs right campaign is so misguided Biden should be forced to retire and stay off social media for the rest of his life.

Green parties across Europe are socially very liberal but are pretty centrist economically, which is why they tend to do well amongst young, well-educated urbanites.

Not that I'm shitting on their rise, I'd probably vote Green if I lived there.

Electoral College and gerrymandering is the reason.

You dont have to like it, but there's some truth in there unfortunately.

Completely ignorning the Brexit factor, and the relentless character smear of Corbyn in the british press though. All huge factors along with some policy.

Mainly if you take anything from our election, dont look to twitter, social media or even here to gauge public sentiment. You think you're winning? you aint.

I have absolutely no idea what this dude's plans or policies are but it doesn't matter because "you have no choice but to vote for me" is a very inspiring message.
