I really thought they were going to get it this time. Maybe ask them to remove the backstop in Latin next time idk.

So the plan is to ask the EU to cut out the backstop and just trust the UK to develop these alternative arrangements before December 2020 without any contingency.

As others have said, if the UK were so confident that their alternative arrangements would be in place by Dec 2020, the backstop shouldn't be a problem for them since we'll exit it by/at that point. Of course, that would require believing that the UK has a credible alternative. Ho ho ho.

I really can't wait for Johnson to run out of road and have to explain what he's been doing for a month.

ORRDERR! ORDERR! Statement by the Prime Minister ....

Mister Speaker, I don't believe I have a statement listed ....

Order! I am sure the Prime Minister appreciates that since his loss before the Supreme Court the House will be keen to know what he has been up to while the House has not been prorogued at all. The Prime Minister ...

Er...

SPEAK UP! THE PRIME MINISTER MUST BE HEARD!

Does he mean "campaign" like last time?
Or is he actually going to campaign for Remain this time?

So much work done then...

Any government that is seriously suggesting proposals that break the Good Friday Agreement are not fit for office. They are playing with fire here, it's absolutely disgusting that they forget the amount of work that went into peace in Northern Ireland

They'll have blood on their hands.

corbyn being forced by the membership to campaign for remain again would mark the sad end of a long road from 2017 election where he succeeded by being seen by the public as honest and straightforward about what he believed in, if sometimes a classic british eccentric, in contrast to a robotic and stage managed theresa may, and that's not even an election we won

So the non-papers contained a non-solution for a non-backstop? Looking forward to BoJo becoming a non-PM.

He went on holiday in the middle of his own campaign and was hardly enthusiastic about the remain cause when he was actually around.

He made a huge number of speeches and appeared at numerous rallies throughout the campaign. In terms of media appearances he was only behind Cameron, Johnson, Osborne, Farage and Gove (Farron or Swinson don't even crack the top 30 btw, or any other Lib Dems for that matter). The Labour remain vote share held strong throughout the campaign, while the Conservative remain vote dropped 10%

"7/10" is genuinely ridiculous, not matter where you come down on Corbyn. It's really hard to appear less arsed about the campaign than that, no matter how many token appearances you make.

If Corbyn doesn't half-arse campaigning for remain then I'm happy.

Although again who the hell campaigns for the labour deal lol.

How many speeches did he do? And what rallies? Media appearances are a bit of odd one, considering he'd naturally get more than (at the time) irrelevant parties like the Lib Dems (Swinson was some random Lib Dem MP even, so odd to even mention her) being as he was LotO.

More pointless Labour infighting. The party needs to show some level of unity, a GE is coming.

It is tiresome seeing this. They need to get the conferences sorted, make a stand either way, and get ready for the actual fight. Trying to destroy each other internally is just going to have us sailing into No Deal.

Labour left: why is Watson playing internal political games by criticizing Corbyn in public rather than focusing on solving the urgent political problems of the day?

Also Labour left: let's dedicate the party conference to trying to oust Watson!

"Criticising the current leader of our party is utterly unacceptable!"

"... Please don't look too closely into our current leader's record."

It would be a stupid move, Watson represents the centre ground of the party, there are probably a bunch of Labour MPs thinking of joining the LibDems, if Watson leaves or is kicked out, it will be the straw that breaks the camels back for many. Labour needs to be a broad coalition if it wants to win. Also this will be all the media will talk about if it happens, this will not be a good look to the public so close to a GE.
