Damn, thread been dead for a while, huh.

Anyway, has anyone got any experience trying to get Virgin Media to offer you a good deal? I've called up and they've offered a measly discount atm so I'm pretty pissed. I've also heard that people cancel their service and start a new account in their partner's name for the cheaper 12 month contract, but I'm a little worried about all the random charges that might be involved with that. Unfortunately the area I'm in is purely wired for Virgin atm, every other service provider is less than half speed at best, and generally even worse than that because I'm a distance away from the exchange. Thanks OpenReach.
I did this a few months back. Switched from my partners name to mine. Knocked £25 off the monthly bill, got £50 bill credit which paid my first month and a half and soon I should be getting £92 for signing up through Quidco Compare. Also got the latest TiVo box and Superhub sent to me for free

Oh damn, I'm curious if you had to pay an install fee and stuff like that. Also wondering how much downtime you had without any service between switches.

The internet says that I should be good to go as long as I use a new VM account, pay with a different account and use a different email & phone number, is that all still accurate? Apologies for all the questions, I'd rather not fuck up and end up either without internet for a while or not actually saving any money.

There was a £35 activation fee but that was wiped by the bill credit I had applied. They had an offer on at the time for a free case of fancy wine or bill credit instead and I took the credit.

Only a few hours down time. I arranged the cancellation first. Once I knew what day it was being switched off I ordered the new equipment and chose the deliver date as the following day. Did the installation myself which might have saved. Just an easy swap out of the old router/TiVo for a new one.

So, i went to Secret Cinema Stranger things last night, it was by far the worst one, it wasn't bad, just really small, not real quests or many thing to interact or recognize like other ones (maybe if you paid VIP it had, but it was too steep on price for me).

I mean i had a good time, but it was just very very meh, also the "cinema part" went on for way too long and feel like duplicate scenes, I guess i was expecting a lot more because previous one were really amazing.
The actors did an amazing job anyway, except the main "kids" (for whatever reason they used really old people for them and it looked very weird).

I didn't know they were still doing them. Last one I went to was the Star Wars one years ago.

I can imagine Blade Runner being good. I guess I lost interest and didn't keep up. It felt they were becoming less and less about immersive cinema and more plain promotion.

How about we try to inject some life into this thread again. How is everybody coping?

My parents are firmly self-isolating (they are extra cautious as my dad has been especially ill over the past 18 months so his immune system isn't what it used to be) and it being mother's day and my mum's birthday this weekend makes it especially sucky I won't see them...but it's for the best.

My work closed all its offices on Tuesday. The transition to working from home has been excellent on their part. They are at the forefront of technology (big IP firm) and communication has been great. Remarkable that they managed to get the vast majority of 300+ people sorted at such short notice. Working from home has been weird and a bit uncomfortable but the office chair I ordered should make things easier when it arrives tomorrow.

I'm gonna try to chill with some Doom Eternal. Might order a takeaway of some sort tonight...

I work in the public sector and they managed to get over 2000 employees working from home almost over night with little fuss which shocked me.

On the subject of takeaways wouldn't you be concerned of anyone with coronavirus making the food just before it gets delivered? Or can it not transfer like that?

Any of you ever do much camping around the UK? I've always loved the idea of camping but more the US style where it seems a lot more adventurous or scenic whereas here my only experience has been specific camp sites as a kid and then long walks to the nearest village where you stop off at the pub and get glared at the entire night.

I camped at the Lake District for my DofE.

One of the best experiences I've had in this country. The morning air and thrill of descending through clouds when hiking was unbeatable.

That sounds like exactly the kind of thing I want. Maybe I'll look into the Lake District then. Also sounds like Scotland is the way to go when it comes to wild camping.

Scotland is best for the large, open and endless nature.

The Lake District is a bit touristy but man it's a brilliant hike and brilliant camping spot. Trust me, you'll not regret it!

Iceland have a "scarily spicy" range a try. I had some of the california reaper burgers today. Were pretty hot, and tasty. About the same level as the Aldi "Grim Reaper" sausages from last year. Will try the ghost chilli sausages when my local gets them in:

Search Results for spicy scarily | Iceland Foods

Choose online food shopping with Iceland and get free next day grocery delivery on orders over £35. Shop now for great deals on frozen and fresh foods.

Don't try it if you don't normally eat spicy food though, as it would certainly be too hot for you. I still remember once going to nandos who couldn't handle their pretty tame sauces. God, I haven't been to nandos since feb. :(
