Gotta disagree. If the first two were made now, they would look amazing. I wish stuff that was made now looked like that sometimes.
I don't want to see anything that looks like The Lion King ever again. If something was made now looked like that, I'd be wondering what was wrong.
Shit. I mean, you don't turn down Beyoncé, but I agree. Monae has the acting chops and the same vocal register too. Dammit, now I want this.

I'm a professional animator; I like the look of The Lion King still. That's not nostalgia talking, the lighting looks the most appealing and fluid in motion than any other 2D Disney film. Going from Beauty and the Beast to that style is a huge fucking leap in my eyes, even though they leaped right backward a year later with Pocahontas. Just because people don't use the same techniques as they used to doesn't automatically date something.
I mean, call me crazy, but I totally would if it were for Janelle Monae. Love 'em both though.

See, that's the kicker right there for me. I don't give a shit if no one else knew who Janelle Monae is. I think she'd be the more worthwhile collaborator in terms of both acting and musical writing. Being famous has jackshit to do with it for me. It's about quality.

Also this is The Lion King. It's going to be guaranteed money regardless of Beyonce.
