Just ordered the DS Version but will definitely buy the PC version once the modders fix it. Though it's looking fantastic GhostTrick, so far, amazing work
You can either use SweetFX or SpecialK with SweetFX plugin. There are ports of most notable CRT shaders from Retroarch to it.Can you guys try to run a sweetFX CRT / soft scanlines to this ?.
Looks like there's a beta branch on steamdb now. Very curious to see if an official patch actually emerges. The actual work from they'd have to do from visual standpoint to make this great again is fairly minimal, they have the unedited assets and cocos2d UI tools are fairly neat, they could make a better UI in a jiffy. I mean the UI is functional, it just looks ugly as sin, right?
People often talk about Nier A as an example of Square's shitty patching practices, but now that I think about it, that's pretty much the only game they haven't patched lately, right? WoFF, Star Ocean, Romancing SaGa all got fairly quick patches didn't they?
There's also an updated branch on FF12, so someone's working on that too.
Hope springs eternal.
I don't know what you are seeing, but there's nothing in steamdb after the February 2017 patch that would suggest that, doesn't look like they were planning anything. Genre flip flops and .NET redist updates are not anything of note.Well, Final Fantasy IX comes to mind. It received a pretty good PS4 patch in december, improving upon the originally mobile based UI. Around the same time there was some movement on steamdb, but that was months ago now. They were clearly planning to, but so far there has been no word of them bringing this patch to PC.

I also did say lately, FF9 is almost two years old now on PC, I would have been quite surprised if they had updated it 18 months later.
I mean you are absolutely right that it would make sense and is perfectly logical, I can only imagine that the PC build was archived away at some point or they lost it again and didn't want to optimize for PC again or something equally silly. I suppose there's always hope, they did also roll out these Chrono Trigger updates to the mobile versions of the game, so they are not strangers to updating older games. Even with updates that no one wanted. :DI wouldn't have been surprised though, updating it felt logical to me. The PS4 release is just a port of the PC version, people had been asking for that patch, and mainline FF games are pretty evergreen on steam. I figured it counted as lately because of that PS4 release. Two current versions of the same game, one of them got recent support and one didn't.
But yeah, their recent PC releases seem to be getting better support.
Excellent work, GhostTrick. That's incredible.
I am sorry to ask since you've already done so much work, but do you think you can upload your files to another site that isn't filled with garbage ads such as ZippyShare? I would recommend MEGA -> http://mega.co.nz/

Thanks GhostTrick. Sorry if you've already answered this, but does your mod also remove the mobile UI?
If Its this, i Hope not
It's really nice to see the modding community get behind this, but it's also frustrating that it was needed in the first place. The fact that the community, over the span of a week or so, were able to greatly improve the visual quality of this port while Square-Enix themselves seemingly couldn't (or wouldn't), speaks volumes.
I love Chrono Trigger, and it'd be nice to play it on the PC, but I'm finding it really difficult to purchase and support this thing, given the lack of work that went into it. :(
Yeah, it's really depressing to see. :(Well the biggest problem is that Square-Enix actually spent money and time to make it worse. They worked it this way because they thought it was better like this.
Square-Enix has a real problem when it comes to older titles.
Better to ask about Virtual Console on Switch and then ask for the snes version...I was holding out for Chrono Trigger on the Switch, but this whole situation made me realize if it comes it will be a mobile port. So I hunted down a DS version of the game at GameStop yesterday.
"We're aiming to release the first of these patches in the first half of April, and the biggest change is that it will include an option to switch between the current high-resolution graphics, and the original graphical style of CHRONO TRIGGER.
We'll post a full list of changes here when the first patch is released. For now, be assured that we're working very hard on adjusting, updating and supporting CHRONO TRIGGER on Steam."
It seems Square Enix is working on a fix for this game.
If they truly manage to fix it, I'm 100% going to buy this finally.

THis gif cracks me up every time.
Maybe I should buy the game after all, then.It seems Square Enix is working on a fix for this game.

Oh damn I didn't know this. DLing nowThis is older news, the first patch is already available via the beta branch. Vast improvement
Honestly, I'd be happier with a ROM and an emulator with a good CRT filter. There's no way that Square's patches will match that.
I do enjoy the pursuit in this thread and the work done by above individuals and others as a project on the steam version/mobile port version or whatever it is. It looks nice.Honestly, I'd be happier with a ROM and an emulator with a good CRT filter. There's no way that Square's patches will match that.
Cmon, they just removed one ugly filter and you want another?! =)
The graphics were constructed with the expectation of the player seeing them displayed on a CRT. A good and capable CRT filter would show them much closer to the way they were meant to be seen.Cmon, they just removed one ugly filter and you want another?! =)

There is, someone ported the Sonic Mania shader to Reshade.I wish there was a "Sonic Mania filter" app like re-shade. I want that sharp filter on every pixel game.
Holy shit yes! Thank you!
This is a big improvement from release. I did not expect them to also tackle the font with this patch, but they now have the DS version font in and it looks so much better.
Of course there's still more to fix, but this is a very good first step.
Holy shit, this is nuts:
