There are some PC games that no matter what I lower settings to my basic ass laptop won't be able to run them.
Is your laptop built for gaming?

what part of praising it for running on a handheld at 7 watts is blindly praising?
It's clearly "up to snuff" for these two particular current gen AAA games, and I can imagine games with similar performance demands such as RE7 and Black Ops 4 could be "up to snuff," on the console as well.
What's the purpose of this comment? The switch is what it is and so is this version. There is no punching above weight, nothing that is really a surprise.
In context of the best looking fps handheld game, it also has the lowest resolution this whole gen, by quite a bit.
You can always try to give things context to make something look better than it might be but the hard facts are there: dynamic resolution down to 360p, 30fps limit but by no means a lock.
Apparently Panic Button got flooded with requests from publishers for Switch ports, but they had to turn them down.I'm amazed that it seems few publishers are interested in tapping them - or similar port-specialist studios - for more last-gen to Switch ports. I would absolutely be interested in Mass Effect Trilogy for Switch, Deus Ex for Switch, Burnout Paradise for Switch. I'm playing Far Cry 2 now on 360-BC-on-One, 2 and 3 should both be within the Switch's capabilities.
If they can do an impossible port with some sacrifices of a current-gen title, they ought to be able to do a damn near perfect portable port of last-gen ones.
RE7 is a dark game, and dark games do not mix well with blur. It would be a miracle if it happened but my eyes are already hurting just trying to visualize it.It's clearly "up to snuff" for these two particular current gen AAA games, and I can imagine games with similar performance demands such as RE7 and Black Ops 4 could be "up to snuff," on the console as well.
It sometimes goes to 360p?
I understand that everybody wants all the games on Switch, but dayum. (and I don't blame the developers, I'm sure they've done their best).

as they said, if you can play DooM or WF is any other machine, is a no brained to not play it there, but if your only console is a Switch, then rejoice, you got the game running. The Switch is a hybrid system, if you're only focusing on the handheld part of it it's impressive, if you bring the docked aspect of it in it's not. I don't have an issue with anyone posting the positives or negatives, I have an issue with people acting like others saying the negative aspects doesn't allow for discussion, but somehow only talking about the positives does. That's a joke and really annoying.
I'll take the word of tech experts who have played the Switch version to completion over someone cherry-picking the worst-case scenario in a 6-8 hour game.
Sure if you strip it down enough and make it run at extremely low resolutions. Also again let me remind everyone that these two games were on one of the best engines out there in terms of scaling, and it still produced these results. On most other engines they'd have to strip down even more, if it could run at all.

The best part is, the people complaining the loudest never had any intention of playing the Switch version anywayCan't help but feel like some people are a bit too.... snobby (?) about resolution. It's a handheld, whether it's docked or undocked the system itself is a tablet, no it won't look as nice as an XB1X, but ITS NOT ABOUT THE POWER with the switch. It's the ability to play it on the tv and keep playing if I go somewhere or just want to play it somewhere else. I love handhelds far more than a stationary console and any multiplat game that's on the switch I'll buy on the switch. Someone bought me this game for my birthday and I really like it and see nothing wrong with the visuals, stop comparing a stationary console to a freaking handheld tablet, being docked doesn't suddenly make it anything other than a handheld tablet that's using an hdmi port.
Yeah I think I won't update the OP, the article and video are both wonderful so please watch/read them!

People are calling them wizards, but when you lower resolution this far, you're obviously gonna reach a playable state at some point for this kind of game

Pretty much my thoughts on this.so go by "but dock mode dont looks as good as it world on PXBONE OR PC" is a really meaning less argument
So if we cut the resolution far enough, you think Cyberpunk would run on the Switch?People are calling them wizards, but when you lower resolution this far, you're obviously gonna reach a playable state at some point for this kind of game
To be fair, it is mildly hilarious how a lot of the opinions from DF (the professionals who literally make this this their job) are talking about how impressive the port is, and how smartly it handles the drawbacks it needs to make, then all the people here who haven't played or seen the game in action themselves are like "ummm, actually no, this is terrible".This is a Digital Foundry thread, where the entire point is to discuss the technical aspects of the game.
If all you care about is playing docked and portable then why are you here?
Switch owners are super defensive in DF threads. I take it you never ventured into a DF thread where PS4/Xbox One games got torn to shreds every time in comparison to the PC ports?

The biggest drawback from most is that it's really blurry, and for some people that's an acceptable deal breaker despite the overall impressiveness of it.To be fair, it is mildly hilarious how a lot of the opinions from DF (the professionals who literally make this this their job) are talking about how impressive the port is, and how smartly it handles the drawbacks it needs to make, then all the people here who haven't played or seen the game in action themselves are like "ummm, actually no, this is terrible".

Heh, it's always funny scanning threads like these. I've been playing a lot of PSP games on Vita lately (including FPS' like Medal of Honor Heroes) so this looks absolutely great to me. Whenever I get a Swich, definitely gonna check this out.
Yeah. Author kept repeating how impressed he was with this port, so I was kinda began agreeing with him, but then he showed this scene...It sometimes goes to 360p?

Well so is saying this is very impressive for a handheld, because then you're comparing it to what handhelds exactly? The 3DS and the Vita?
The truth is the Switch is it's own thing, acting like it's just a handheld or acting like it's just a console is reductive to any discussion. The only difference is that you're on opposite sides of the spectrum.

The point of these ports is really to play them in portable mode. There's no reason to play DOOM or Wolfenstein 2 in docked mode if you have access to any other platform capable of running it. In portable mode, however, it's an entirely different story.
It's using a mobile SoC hence talking about it as a handheld is far less reductive imo.

This post is hilarious.
