So, back in the days of the original Xbox, and the first few years of the Xbox 360, there was this common sentiment or meme or whatever you want to call it that the Xbox line of consoles was basically the successor to the Sega line. Memes were made about it, sites such as Kotaku and 1Up wrote articles about that, and a lot of the personnel from Sega of America even got on to the Xbox team.
The close relationship between Microsoft and Sega, the possibility of MS acquiring Sega, and Dreamcast backward compatibility on the Xbox, were all matters that further fed this perception, I am sure. And for a while, it wasn't without merit. Xbox employed a similar style of branding, focused on similar kinds of games, catered to the same kind of market, and got the weird wacky Japanese support Sega had had, especially on the first Xbox.
My question is, in today's day and age, do you still view the Xbox line of consoles as the successor to Sega consoles? Why or why not?
