Quick question about item management, this is my first time playing a DQ/jrpg game so I'm still getting used to all the systems.

Is there a limit for how many items your character can carry? Should I move over all items that can be used in battles such as healing etc to my character bag whenever possible.

Seems strange to me to have two seperate bags and having to transfer between the two, but then I suppose it makes you think tactically about what to take into battle 🤔

Yes, characters all have a limit of what they can carry. It's worth spreading consumables that cure status effects, revive the dead and restore MP around, particularly to the physical attackers. Some equipment can also be used as an item in battle even if it isn't equipped, so if you do have stuff like that (a staff that casts a spell, or a sword that removes a status effect for example) it's worth keeping in a characters personal item list rather than the item or equipment bags.

Thanks for the advice :) I'm still early in the game so haven't had to worry about any kind of challenge or thinking tactically yet, but it's good to know this for later on.

Is there a way to farm the seeds?

I don't know if there's any changes in the Switch version (other than the 2D to 3D exploit) but in the PS4 version
You farm Great Keepers in the Fortress of Fear in Act 2, and the Malicious Great Keepers in Act 3. The latter can only be found in the Dundrasil Region when it rains. To increase your chances, use Hero, Erik and Jades Pep Power "Hallelujah"

So I just died the first time, about a third into the game I'd say (?). It was right after playing through a dungeon, where I did quite a bit of grinding (for exp) and then died in the surprisingly tough boss fight... Only to find out that I had the option to go to the last save (setting me a few hours back) or the last autosave (which I found out was the very beginning of the dungeon)... all exp and gold lost...

Wow, that was demotivating and something I am definitely not used to anymore in 2019. Should have paid attention to this harsh autosave system...

But I am reading online that there's some option about loosing money but keeping the EXP? Did I miss some option after the game over...?

Going back to your last manual save cuts money in half but doesn't cost experience

Ahhhh, thanks for the clarification... that's a weird system, isn't it? Well will definitely save much more often from now on. That difficulty spike came unexpectedly :-/
Yeah that confused me at first too, but 'last save' actually takes you back to the location of your last manual save with all other progress/items/etc. intact minus half your money, while 'last autosave' actually just reloads the save state from the autosave.
There are a few dungeons with a convenient autosave spot near the boss that you can take advantage of but otherwise 'last save' tends to be the better option if it's been awhile.

Well thanks again... that messaging on the game over screen was definitely not very clear on that (or I have really not paid attention). But this will make the game much more enjoyable going forward.

I saw the DF video, I know they talk mostly about graphics but they should've talked more about the additional features because some of them certainly make the experience better, I laughed when he made the Batman comparisson because that's exactly what I thought of while playing

Any way to make some fast money in act 1?
Just got to the casino at puerto valor and spend all my money on tokens thinking you could cash out tokens for money, when tokens will always stay as tokens, so i know have only like 25 gold lol

Is there some trick to casino RNG? I've looked at numerous claims about "oh, it's stacked in your favor, just keep doing it" that advise using certain slot machines, but in an hour or more of trying, got very little in the way of wins on the slots.

I just reset the game and reload the manual save so I don't lose the money. Its a very odd system.

I read the same thing and seems that while its right the its stacked in your favor, its not true x slot is better than y (of the same type). If you are losing a bunch of tokens switch machine.
I think machines also work better if you wait int he queue to enter at morning, isntead of entering when people are aleady inside. The first slot gave my much more tokens and metallic mode chances than every other machine i tested later when i was running out of luck with the first i started.

I actrually tried the first time i entered the casino the slime quests one, and seems i got incredibly lucky. Got nearly 4000 tokens, that i then used on the nromal slots where you need to bet 90 tokens to get 30000 thousand pretty fast.

The idea behing slime quest is great, too bad is 100% random, no matter how much they tell you can actually stop the spins. A guy tried to force the PC version to stop the spins where he wanted by going much slower and he said the spin did whatever it wanted.

So for Slime Quest slots there is a bunny girl you can talk to downstairs next to them that will tell you what the odds are for each machine. I didn't pay too much attention to it, just went to one she said was good. If you rest at an inn/come back the odds will change if there aren't any good ones. For standard slots I'm not sure there is a trick to it, if one machine is better than the other.

In any case, I bought ~1000k worth of tokens, started out on the cheap slime quest slots and played for a bit until I had ~5K or so tokens. Then I played the 10 token slots. I did Slime Quest for maybe 3 hours and standard (first one on the left) for about 4 hours, stopping when I got a jackpot (200k tokens). I earned about 275k or so in total.

So yeah, I think "just keep doing it" is the strategy, and while it is possible to hit it big in one hour it may also take longer. I will say that on average I was always making money moreso than losing it. Sometimes faster than others. After you hit 10K tokens or so I'd think it would be incredibly unlucky for you to bottom out and lose everything at that point.

Not sure about place, but you can use two pep powers to grind to level 99 extremely quickly anywhere in the world.

I dunno if it's really a spoiler but I'll be safe:

Find an easy enemy who won't run away, keep defending each turn until you get Erik, Jade and Hero pepped up (his Pep Up skill is kinda crucial for this), use their Hallelujah pep power, then get Jade, Sylvando and Hero pepped again (also ideally Rab but that's not 100% necessary), use their Electro Light pep power which turns enemies into metal slimes (the type of metal slime depends on your current levels), then if Rab is pepped up use Dirge of Dundrasil to put the metal slimes to sleep, then use crotch attacks like Erik's critical claim or Jade's lightning thrust to kill each metal slime 1 by 1. If you repeat this a few times you'll be max level within a couple of hours.

Using pep pops or pep pips greatly speeds this process up too.

I did a google/youtube search on winning the roulette jackpot later in the game (1mil tokens), and there was one that worked for me which amounted to talking to the bunny girl next to the prize and making sure that she says a specific line (the line changes depending on the day). Then keep betting max chips on 12, 14 until you win. I'm sure you could find the vid.

It wasn't quick, I had to burn through around 80k tokens to win. Some comments say they got it right away. Also worth noting that the videos were from the PS4 release so not sure if anything changed. Could be that the game just gave me a win because I put enough money in, and the 12,14 had nothing to do with it?

Lol, some of these bosses are bullshit. The one in Octogonia charmed me and hit me 4x in a row. Also stole all my mp.

Finally hit the jackpot in the casino. What are some good rewards to buy?

Oh I did not realise that loading the last save kept your xp. So it must also keep equipment and whatever chests you opened?

I forgot to heal before a boss and died, so I reloaded my auto save and cleared the whole area again, zoomed back to town to rest, dump money in the bank and save, then zoomed again to make an auto save to reload if I died again.

Although on the second go through I got about 4 or 5 metal slimes which helped me speed through again and I didn't have any issues with the boss second time.

So now I in future I'll dump my cash in the bank before heading out and then just pay half my money. Maybe even spend whatever cash I have before the boss on forging materials since I assume I'll keep whatever I make.

In act 1 if you can get it early enough the platinum greatword (or w/e it was called) will let the Hero stomp for most of the act. IMO act 2 has the better items to get early.

I'm talking act 2. Already have the Platinum greatsword. I just did the quest for the jackpot and now I have 1 million tokens. What should I spend it on?

If you like using whips I'd recommend the one that hits everyone for equal damage. You also can't go wrong getting metal slime helmets for most of your party.

Made it to Act 3.

The pep pop abuse to grind is hilariously easy. I feel a little cheaty for abusing it, but I've been playing with tougher monsters and I was underleveled for the Act 2 boss. It took much longer than anticipated and I wiped twice. So now it's my time to be crazy overpowered!

No, there is timing involved in that game, but the way you can time things is dependent on your luck. The game will only allow you to line up certain things at specific points; normally, you can only ever get a Replay or a Plum. See my earlier post for more details:
After playing enough Slime Quest, I think I have a good idea about how it all works, outside of a couple things. I'll just jot down my thoughts below:

  • Slime Quest is not completely random and does require the player to time its slots. Fortunately, the pattern is not too hard to memorize.
  • That said, you will not be able to roll 777 every time even with perfect timing. There are a lot of caveats in place that limit your possible rolls until a special thing happens. Under normal circumstances, I believe it is only possible to roll 3 Plums or 3 Replays. 3 Watermelons may be possible too, but it's not worth going for over the Plums.
  • A special event that can affect what you roll is finding a treasure chest. You may think that if you roll well you'll get something out of the chest, but it's actually the other way around. This is especially apparent since the contents of the chest are determined with the second slot you stop, not the third.
  • Another very important thing to look out for are the glow effects on the slots. That tells you it is possible to roll that combination in that play. For example, a green glow opens up a Watermelon win, and a red glow opens up a Cherry win. You can time when to stop the slots by paying attention to when BAR passes by.
  • Speaking of BAR, I believe the white glow refers to being able to roll 3 BARs, but I have yet to confirm that.
  • And then there's the golden glow for the Bells, which appears very rarely but can lead to the biggest individual payout these machines offer. The amount you win is dependent on the number of Orbs you have collected, up to a maximum of 6. The Orbs can be randomly found in treasure chests and are more likely to show up in Prime Slime Time.
  • Let's talk about Slime Time. You enter into this mode by rolling 777s, but the way you can get into it varies. It could be through Amalgoomate (seemingly random outcomes), Gooniversity (also random), defeating 50 enemies, or by just finding a Bonus.
  • When you get prompted to roll 777, it is highly recommended to do so in an X formation, as that increases your payout and seemingly makes it more likely for the 7s to turn gold, allowing you into Prime Slime Time (which to me just seems like a better version of the regular one, with more chances for good outcomes). How likely the 7s turn golden is dependent on the machine.
  • Choosing the right machine is very important! You want a machine that hands out bonuses like candy. If they have a high Orb count to go along with it, then that's even better, but it's not all that necessary.
  • The Autoplay for this game works great for multitasking, but don't expect the slots to be stopped at good spots most the time. You definitely want to take control if you notice a golden glow.
I think that's all the important points I wanted to make. There are a few more things that I'm still not sure about (why sometimes the slots go dark, or what the Dracky formations mean). Overall, I find the game to be the slowest of the bunch, but the Autoplay makes it also the most convenient and it is incredibly charming.

Oh? Do you mind sharing more about this?

Its pretty easy, but to make it incredibly easy you need both pep and pip pops.

Start with Rab, Jade, Sylavando, Erik. Use your pep pop so all 4 are powered up. Swap hero for Rab. Use Hero's ability to pep up. Use the combo ability Haulellujah. Now, swap Erik out for Rab. Have hero use the ability to pep up again, and have Jade use the Pip pop on herself. Now, use Electro Light. Hopefully 3 metal monsters appear. Have Rab use his Pep ability that puts enemies to sleep.

Now just use abilities like critical claim, hatchet man, or lightning thrust to kill the sleeping metal monsters. I went from 60-82 in maybe an hour and a half? Depends on how often electro light gave me machines instead of metals. I just reset on those situations.

I find it so incredibly difficult to stop things were you want (and im talking about when the game prompts you to) that i actually got my biggest payout the first time not knowing what i was doing and then using the autoplay at the end because i was bored of just winning (and still wouldnt die)
Trying to play yesterday well just gave me crappy results (net positive but very small, i even got all orbs in one machine). In fact i didnt find a lick of difference between trying to stop the machine by my hand or the autoplay (and sometimes i felt that i was getting better results with autoplay). I also went with the hottest machine and actually changed machines to see if another one was better.
I have to add that the first time i played i got 10 minutes in a black out that turned into a super omega crazy bonus.
Well i havent seen that again in my 2 hours of play yesterday.

In my opinion, as the payout of slime quest is not that great compared to normal slots, they should have slowed down the slots so it was easier to hit what you want to when the game promts you and feels more lile a game of active participaton (like battles on the mario rpgs) instead of chance with slight active participation. Make that game more fun basically (because it think, that in its core there actually a great game inside that machine) but with more active play and the same low payouts with longer play sessions. Basically play it because its fun and rewarding instead of a slot machine.
You have the normal slots that are completely random but with bigger payouts anyway, so you can choose if you want something fast to get money while doing something else but not fun or something slower but much more fun were you need to pay attention (take out the auto roll if needed), that would be a great difference between machines.

You can buy them from the store in rebuilt Cobblestone. I was able to do most of my grinding from the free pops from the dlc that gave you the DQ 8 costume. Pip Pops are available in Octagonia casino, but only work on one party member so you need a bunch to do this strat.

Get Hero, Jade, Sylvando and Rab pepped up. Switch each character out of your lineup when they get pepped up. Then head to a campsite and save your game. Take all four into battle and use the pep power Electro Light. If you get shafted and don't get metal slimes reload. Next use Rabs pep power to attempt to force all the slimes to sleep. After that just use your best abilities to try and crit the buggers. :)

I dont know why I am having so much trouble in Act 3.
With the Black Dragon. He keeps wiping my team as soon as the battle starts or somehow always gets to paralyze right away or goes for serena too fast. I didnt have trouble until him for some reason. I dont even remember having this much trouble when playing on pc when it first came out. All my team is well equipped too.

Forge/wear a lot of paralysis resisting gear. That immediately solved the issue for me.

I have +3 resist rings on all my characters, but Im guessing more resist accessories will help more? Even Serena had two rings and still got paralyzed first lol. Usually really random when retrying that fight.

I think I had everyone wearing 2 +3 Full Moon Collars.

On a related note it's annoying how there are no easily accessible guides or wikis for this game. I was trying to look up whether Full Moon Rings or Collars had the better paralysis resist value but I can't find that info anywhere.

EDIT: Rings, not collars.

I'd say forge Catholicon Rings, but those are in

The Drustan Trials. They offer 50 percent protection against most ailments, and 2 of those will negate it completely
