DD1 is one of my favorite games of all time. Top 10 lock.

Don't think I like this one anywhere close to that and what it just pulled really soured me on it lol.

In the true ending, doing all of the end game quests to set up for what I assume is the final boss...and its a bunch of go here and do bland back and forth quests with the poorly told story. Get to near the end of it and fall off a cliff and die....which is fine. don't want to use my revives for this. Get a cut scene and then have to start back 2-3 hours of the afforementioned busy work.

fuck that and fuck this game lol

(this is just me raging. game is good and I had fun but I am shelving this shit for a bit lol)
Yeah, the game should really warn you that dying and not choosing to wakestone in the post-game will force you to restart from the very beginning of the post-game or the last 'inn save' you made during that phase. I'm not sure if that is ever made clear at any point in there.

Going through BBI now. I don't think I want more copy pasta dungeons if we get a DD2 expansion. I like BBI, but I don't want more of the same.
I'm hoping we get a snow mountain or an underground world biome. The northwestern section of the map is suspiciously underutilized, and there are various caves throughout the game with strange doors covered by rocks, that have the same symbol as a certain one in Battahl that you open up with a special tool late in the story.

Those caves! I found at least four that had super bizarre dead ends, first thought that comes to mind is cut content but it would be awesome if it was dlc locations. I hope they do something new and no random loot!

Yeah, what I really want the most though is more crazy setpiece locations to travel through like the Misty Marshes, that whole path when you go underneath the bridge at the border checkpoint and follow the river towards the west, and the Guerco Cavern and the whole path leading south from there.

Those areas gave me a major sense of adventure that I hadn't felt anywhere else in gaming thus far.

I just love how your experience to battahl was different than mines. I went behind checkpoint town and the gauntlet of mobs that the game throws at you to see if you're ready is epic. It took me nearly 3 full in game days to reach the city and a couple of hours of real time to make it there. Every time the sun rose out I breathed a huge sigh of relief. Hopefully they aware of what people are loving about the game and do more of that. Load up the game with a ton of new mobs, weapons and areas and we'll have an epic.

Oh yeah, my first trip to Battahl was through the normal way, I discovered the other paths later and they were just as fascinating.

Though I was really surprised that Battahl didn't have a portcrystal. I hope the devs put one in there and the Scared Arbor later, instead of locking them behind post-game only. Seriously mind-boggling about why they would even do that, especially for Sacred Arbor as oxcarts don't go up there.

Damn my pawn had bright as fuck red eyes and told me to fuck off after I gave her an order. I think maybe I just suspected Dragonsplague in the past but this time she had it for sure. I rested a couple of days in the wild and her eyes changed back. I hope I'm in the clear. I didn't wanna kill her.

Thanks for the replies. I was like where that heck did this guy end up?

1bKPZto97dTnG.webp

Bro was all up in the trailers and cinematics, but all that just to die like an insignificant rando. Didn't even notice he was there. Apparently he even has some dialogue during the fight. Capcom should have at least made their health pools larger, because we shred through those guards like every other mob.

I mean...

He's some dumb nobody with nothing between the ears who got himself way in over his head with his greed. The dude's supposed to be playing the role of the Arisen and he's openly shaking in his boots about "like, the dragon's not going to set me on fire, right?". It's privilege enough that he was scaled to everyone else's level in the fight instead of being a 1 HP Wonder.

Disa was probably planning on slipping strychnine or whatever into his drink the moment he was no longer needed.

The "real" Dragonsplague cure is that someone hires your pawn and it gets communicated to their Main Pawn. That's likely what happened. Most people don't want to play chicken with that, but I suppose if you decide to take a break after noticing infection there's a decent enough chance it gets hired-away while you're not playing.

First time into Battahl region kicked my butt felt like I could barely get a break lol but the quest to
restore dulled blade of Regalia
is amazing to me didn't expect such an grand adventure from that.

Only a few hours in but I dont think I understand exactly the Pawn system.
Note that I have never played DD1.

So, the game informs you that you should regularly dismiss and acquire new, higher level Pawns throughout your adventure. That is cool and all, but it leaves a sour taste in my mouth regarding companion relationships and bonding. There is a lot of banter going on and it feels weird to know that you should pretty much treat these companions as... "pawns". Am I missing something?

Why have pawns be so expressive and talkative when they are ultimately only there for a few hours each time? Maybe I am seeing this wrong but it just doesnt feel right. I dont think I have encountered that in any other game. Other games strive to succeed in building up interesting relationships with companions, and here I have a game that feels like its ticking all the right boxes in this regard, yet the companions end up being nothing but a commodity of shorts.

The captain of the guard hands you one right before you go there. Seems like they chose to suggest you put one there (and therefore realise you can place your own) instead of just putting one as part of the story.

I don't just hire them once and never see them again, but note that I played on release and levelled with a number of them so I had the option to just keep hiring the same ones as we progressed together. Or heck I'm fine with them being some levels below me as it's not really a difficult game anyway and levels don't mean that much past a certain point. I hired a number of friend pawns and some random ones. Some leave a deeper impression than others. Just favourite them and sometimes you'll see them wandering the streets! It's certainly more fun when they're still actively being updated in terms of build and gear. Everytime I check back theres always something new. New skills, new gear, new glowy eyes.

I'm still very early on, never played the original and playing as Thief. Since my vocation is a fast and agile attacker, my carrying weight must be low. I think at the moment it's " very heavy" in the character screen. Should I keep it lower? I've handed off most if not all items to other pawns, and is there a desirable weight I should be?

The lighter you carry the better. By increasing your max encumbrance, you can carry more and still stay on the lighter side. There are many ways to do it
1) create max height character with more mass
2) collect and eat golden beetles
3) get the augment skill "thew" that increases your encumbrance by 10
4) wear rings that increase your encumbrance

Also be mindful to not carry camping kit on you, as they are very very heavy. Give it to your main pawn.

So Reddit is trying to figure out where to get a certain cloak. I'm leaving this here in the off-chance someone here has found one.

Apparently it's one of the very few items left that has yet to be located and documented. Supposedly a couple people have, but they do not recall where they got it. The current prevailing theories are escort/cull monster reward from a specific NPC or random drop from a specific boss monster in a specific location, but supposedly it's coded as a quest reward in the files.

Also, some of the ways you acquire certain gear in this game are really obscure... Like these robes that you can rob from an NPC.

I really wish the Pawn System was cross platform, I am playing on Steam but I feel like the Pawn community on PS when I played DD1 was more engaging and diverse.

Glad you didn't rest in town.
The first time I got a pawn with that I tossed them off a bridge, think it was a Capcom pawn too.

I just put that on my pawn last night when I switched her back to thief. I was just trying different ones on and liked the way that one looked. And... I don't know where I got it.

Edit: never mind, I just looked and I used the shade walkers neck wrap. Looks very similar.

I like how there's unique dialogue depending on where you first enter a dungeon. My sample size is 1 (waterfall cave) though lol. Probably not much effort put late game.

Doesn't work on subsequent entries with the same pawns so I can see people missing it entirely.

Oh and when you buy the grimoire from the merchant in Melve he starts to walk out of the village on the road towards Vernum. I guess it's just the games way to get him out of Melve for him to appear later at Vernum. If you let him out of your sight and he goes away too long he disappears I guess.

I thought, ok let me see what happens if you just keep him in sight. Shortly after leaving Melve we reach the main gate. If you follow him he stops at the gate and turns around waiting for it to open. Interesting.

Luckily I had the quest and people in tow to open the gate. So off we continue walking all the way to Vernum now. When enemies are near he does the cower animation with head on head. Unfortunately we got to "Gathering of Beasts" and my game crashed and had to go to sleep.

Look for the Barbershop/Hairdresser scissors icon in the towns. Haircut, tattoos, makeup etc can be changed via currency. For a complete total change of appearance - you'll need a Metamorphosis item from the Rift Vendor for 500 RC to use at the Barbershop/Hairdresser.

Just unlocked Trickster and completed some quests in Battal. I wish all the classes felt this unique. I'm having to rethink my approach to combat.

For you?

A seeker's Token!
Lol nah. I just did a port crystal again. But now I'm on the Riddle of Remembrance and the thing I was fearing happened. I'm on NG++ and simply haven't found a single Seeker's Token this playthrough. I went back to the spot where I found my first token last playthrough and the spot where I found the last token last playthrough and nothing. I straight up don't know what she wants me to give her now lol. I'm assuming that I might have to find a new token and maybe that counts? Or any token? I have no idea.

I think you may need to find a new one. I know in ng+ it resets so it's no longer the first one you got originally, its the first one in the newest playthrough. But not 100% sure what happens if you haven't gotten one yet and start that mission. Just use a guide to find one you know you don't have yet and see if that works.

I can only assume I have to find a new one and then go back to that spot after a reload to then find the Finder's Token. I'll check out Bakbattahl because I may have missed on there but if I can't find one extremely easily I'm just not gonna bother. I already got that trophy anyway.

ok, here we go!

I tried DD1 twice, back on 360, then more recently on Switch.
I'm fascinated by these games, but I personally haven't found them satisfying... I lapsed both attempts, maybe after 8 hours-10 hours or so.

I really wish the storytelling were handled... differently.
Everything feels so ... superfluous? Distant? throwaway? I don't know what I'm looking for, but nothing in the game's story/world or story telling feels like it matters to me, and all names and places and quests are entirely forgettable. Every character is generic and sounds the same, no emotional connection, etc etc. So, for my tastes, I haven't been hooked.

But... here we go again!
just finished character creator last night, and gonna start tonight in earnest for DD2.

any tips to stay engaged for players who aren't solely combat-oriented are welcome :)

I just finished. I enjoyed the first half much more than the second half. Your issue with story telling was my issue as well. Make sure you talk to npcs if you're not using a guide and visit places multiple times over different days to make sure you're getting quests. First point where some quests can fail is the coronation quest.

Is it worth chatting with any NPC that isn't a shopkeeper? It seems any quest givers seek you out. And whenever I start talking to a random person I get a "Oh, we put these NPCs in the game, I guess we should give them a random line of dialogue" vibe from it.

2 is a lot like 1 in mostly every way, especially regarding its story.

My tip is to pay attention to the quest page. Some quests will show an hourglass next to them, which means they're timed, so try to do those ASAP. The very first side quest you get is timed, actually, so don't dilly-dally! (It takes 30 seconds lol)

Also, don't hesitate to hire high-level pawns if you want combat to be easier/quicker. The game throws oodles and oodles of rift crystals at you, so it's not like you're ever going to run out.

It is, some quest givers don't come for you.... BUT, in every case I can think of a clue from another quest/conversation points you towards them, OR they are conspicuous or isolated enough that they seem important

If you haven't found a Seeker Token prior to starting the Sphinx riddle, the Finders Token will spawn right alongside your first found Token in the current playthrough, no need for a reload. If you've found all 240, the Finders Token will spawn right beside you on the Sphinx platform.

If anyone on PS5 needs a Finder's Token btw I can send your Pawn home with one from my last playthrough. Just drop your Pawn ID in the thread.

I'd say the game isn't really trying to go for character relationships or bonding with pawns outside of perhaps your main pawn since you created them, spend the whole game with them, and invest in their improvement and customization. They are called "pawns" for a reason. The ones you hire are meant to be just that. Mercs you hire for a time that then move on before you hire new ones. If you take a liking to one, you can always favorite them and check back in on how they progressed but they're not meant to be traditional RPG party members with their own stories and loyalty quests etc. The personalities are there for flavor and to differentiate them (and sometimes gameplay reasons).

Congrats, you have one of the rarest items in the whole game that a bunch of people are losing their minds over trying to locate where you get it.

Apprently it is a quest reward, dataminers have found that the quest in question gives 1.2k EXP and 6000g, as well as the cloak. It suggests that it's one of those random escort NPC or one of those 'kill monsters to save a nearby NPC' quests.

Have you done the post-game? Do you remember doing any escort/rescue quests while in there? There's a few that are only available during the post-game phase. Although the other person who got it in the Discord said one of their pawns had somehow picked it up somewhere north of Melve.

Got it too, I think fairly early on. I'm still not post-game, just scraping everything in Vermund before progressing the story. I could have sworn I got it from a chest. The only escorts I recall doing that early is escorting Glyndwr and Taliesin after finishing the Trial of Archery quest.
Edit: Also pretty sure I did a couple "save npc from mobs" events at the time too. Will have to double check just to be sure I actually have that and not Shadewalker.

I have that, I think it might have been a random drop. I got it quite early.

EDIT: I think I got the shade walker one early... this one, I've no idea.

That cloak weighs 0.00 kg?

If you haven't found a Seeker Token prior to starting the Sphinx riddle, the Finders Token will spawn right alongside your first found Token in the current playthrough, no need for a reload. If you've found all 240, the Finders Token will spawn right beside you on the Sphinx platform.

If anyone on PS5 needs a Finder's Token btw I can send your Pawn home with one from my last playthrough. Just drop your Pawn ID in the thread.
Oh I was wondering what happens if you have all the tokens already.

The only main quest you have to watch out for is "Legacy" If you're still doing side quests do not complete that one. You can freely advance the Mq up until that point.
Nice, thanks! I remember earlier the coronation quest negated some other side quests so I asked just in case there was anything else. Onwards until Legacy!
Eh, I nearly just got screwed following this advice. Once you get the quest "Legacy" it seems it's already too late. I just quit and prayed that I didn't get an autosave after the point of no return. Luckily I didn't.
I'd say watch out for the main quest "The Guardian Gigantus" and stop there.

Edit: actually I'm pretty sure I'm screwed :/ The lift I took into the tower is no longer usable and I can't use a ferry stone to get out.

Seconding guardian gigantism.

Yeah I have no idea why people always say Legacy is the point of no return. Legacy is literally the very end and you have no way out. A New Godsway is the furthest you can go before the game locks you into the final battle. After getting to the last settlement someone advises you to sleep at the inn and to make sure you're ready. That's your cue to wrap up anything else before continuing.

Thankfully I did rest at the inn and was able to load save from there. Phew...
