Classic 'stand your ground' defense... I'm shocked that it worked out for a POC in Florida.
Yeah, title paints the manager in a really bad light. I was expecting more of a beat down than one punch.Eh more like old dude fell to his death after getting clocked in the head
This had nothing to do with stand your ground laws, unless I'm missing substantial mentioned in another article? Manager got let off because he hadn't initiated the situation or clearly intended to kill with just one punch, the victim wasn't at all sympathetic due to a variety of factors, and his team managed to get him a solid plea deal for a less severe charge and sentence.Classic 'stand your ground' defense... I'm shocked that it worked out for a POC in Florida.
If someone is so repugnant that people celebrate their death, that's sort of on them. It's not on everybody else to try to be sad about it, regardless of the dead dude's behavior.I'm weirded out by how quick people are to celebrate the old dude dying in some of the other replies in this thread though.
I was like that in another situation on here and got blasted for it.This is one those situations where I don't agree with what he did but I understand why he did it.
One punch homicide. It happens way, way too often.Yup, do anything to de-escalate and avoid violence as resolution. Racism is bad. So is manslaughter.
You say there's a lot of posturing but then invent your own fanfiction about how the manager feels to justify your own discomfort with people not caring that a racist died, while further going on to say that punching the man was the wrong thing to do. Please do tell us Blacks how to better deal with racism.I'm weirded out by how quick people are to celebrate the old dude dying in some of the other replies in this thread though. Just a lotta posturing from those uninvolved when I'm pretty sure the subject of this case likely wishes he hadn't ever thrown that punch, and it was absolutely the wrong thing to do in that situation.
The head hitting on the floor (especially the back) is even more dangerous than the punch. Try to catch someone if you knock them out. Or punch them in the gut instead. Or don't punch at all. Just walk away. Sparring in the ring is way more fun than bare knuckle fighting anyways.

It just feels very....off? Like I'm sure everyone in this thread would be shitting their pants and crying if they clocked that old dude and killed him in one punch, terrified their life was effectively over because they made a mistake, so coming in here and celebrating it when that manager very likely feels completely different about his own actions seems tasteless to me. Like would any of these people react the same and be cheering him on for killing the guy in person? I wouldn't be, I'd feel that would just be downright disrespectful to whatever he was likely going through. If someone is so repugnant that people celebrate their death, that's sort of on them. It's not on everybody else to try to be sad about it, regardless of the dead dude's behavior.
Donut-involved punching.Hmmmm had races been moved around I'm sure the article title would have been around the tone of "Adult male passed on due to altercation related accident after verbally assaulting restaurant manager"

I never once said you should feel sympathy for the dead guy. Please don't put words in my mouth.I am suppose to feel sympathy for a racist pedophile/sex offender. GTFO with that silly ass statement.
Trying to figure out how this GIF applies to the situation at all.
It's unfortunate for everyone involved that the man died, but from the limited info available in the article (and the other one it links) that sentence sounds largely appropriate. Manager likely wasn't trying to kill anyone and I doubt there's much worry of a repeat offense in the future, glad that this wasn't met with decades of imprisonment for the pure sake of punishment and that rehabilitation and common sense won out.

Police said Cook enticed teen boys into his home with comic books, video games and candy. He then used the boys for his pornographic fantasies, including filming himself performing sex acts with a 16-year-old boy, police said. At the time of his arrest, Cook told reporters that he was not guilty, saying there was no evidence the photographs were child pornography.
Cook was sentenced in 2008 to five years in prison for a range of charges including lewd and lascivious battery on a child, using a child in a sexual performance and several counts of unlawful sex with a minor. He was released in 2011.
