From what a lot of close friends of his on YouTube have said, he's struggling to find what he wants to be and who he wants to be as a person. A lot of people such as Triforce Johnson went into detail saying, Desmond wants to get rid of his "Etika" persona. He wants to be who he is but he's also afraid to leave that behind because he's not sure how people or how his fans will be receptive to that. Considering they already give him shit when he doesn't stream or anything let alone changing personas. So he did it so there was no "turning back" to the Etika persona and so he can legitimately just be himself and not struggle to be happy or be himself.

Triforce goes into more detail here but basically the "Etika" we know isn't who he is at all (who's actually shocked by this?). Basically, Triforce just tells us the truth and how much being Etika actually ate Desmond alive and how the two personas clashed with each other, making it difficult for him to figure out how he can be happy at the same time.

You would be surprised how many people are convinced that he is serious in all those reaction videos instead of just acting out a character for profit.

Could y'all maybe stop posting this incredibly toxic garbage? This situation and the way this thread keeps on updating every time his ex seems to want a piece of the attention again, spreading rumors, making sometimes misinformed statements & making sure the whole world keeps informed about the mental state and problems of another person is TMZ levels of disgusting.

I don't like her either. But an update is an update. I just hope he gets all the help he needs to be where he needs to be.

User warned: Inflammatory drive-by posting.
Who the hell is etika ?

*edit*: It's a legit question and not a "inflammatory drive-by post", there is zero context in OP. You just learn me it was a youtuber via warning details, I don't watch them at all.

"Forcibly placed in a mental hospital after deleting his channel because friends...."

This doesnt sound right. I'm not from the US so have no understanding of any US Mental Health legislation, but surely it's not that easy to get forcibly detained into a facility? Wouldnt there be some sort of "assessment" before this occurs? Even if "friends" raised concerns, wouldnt those concerns need to be validated/assessed prior to admission??

Also, does the US still use the term "Mental Hospital"??? Genuine question.

the only way you can be is if you're arrested and determined to need medical attention, or you're a minor

They would be called psychiatric hospitals generally but there's not one a single phrase used to describe them. When you're admitted to these places it's not permanent, he's already getting out because they came to the conclusion that he's stable enough to leave.

It sounds like he decided to end his channel for good.

So he wasn't actually suicidal, or mentally breaking down, just trying to become normal and no longer play personality.

Still in sure there are better ways to go out than paying porn on you'r YouTube

The only videos I've seen of this guy was a couple of reaction videos, one of him playing games, and a react video he did to Howard stern and co watching one of his videos. He seemed a really happy high energy guy...

..but we're not built to be high energy center of attention figures all of the time, the human ego might be but there's more to being human than that. It must be strange being really well known for one little area of your life where you do enthusiastic recordings and streams, and perhaps having relatively smaller interest from people in the rest of your life or how you're doing. I think his followers do care about that though. Hope he's ok, anyone can break down like this and have a moment. Anyone.

Here's a new video from his ex-girlfriend Christine explaining what was going on to Etika in the hospital. There's no video, just audio and he's there you can clearly hear him, loud and clear. You guys might wanna watch this. Alice explains a lot of what happened to him and he reacts to it but here's the more important things of what he said:

1. Etika basically says he never spoke about suicide and how he feels bad about anyone who thought that because he never spoke about it and was fine. This whole thing was a message of "wanting to split the word into half", a lot of people were taking things for face value which also pisses him. He also said when the story is fully given, it'll lead into a single path and make total sense. He was also shocked to see how big this event became for him and was shocked to see how big it was on Twitter.

2. Etika also defends his ex-girlfriend, Alice, the same one everyone was hating on. Etika is also mad that the girl Fiona was causing issues with Alice, same thing with his other friends "Ray and Ben."

3. Etika didn't expect things to reach this extent at all. Somebody also called the cops when Etika, His Mother, Fiona, Ben and Ray were yelling at each other. Only his mother trusted his decision to delete the channel while the other 3 didn't trust him at all.

4. He deleted his channel because of multiple reasons(which no one trusted him like I said above) but one spoken about was his channel's network. He essentially states that the network he was part of prevented him from making a whole lot more money than he was making currently, which was probably apart of the reason he deleted his channel (to get away from the network).

5. He's getting discharged already and he's been given a therapist by the hospital.

This is wild. Definitely one of the weirdest things to go down YT-related in a while.

"And now, It's my turn to die." he probably meant the persona or "etika" but i'm skeptical

I always figured internet personalities go through so much. I didnt understand how they maintained those amped up personalities all the time. But now it seems I have my answer: they don't. At some point, they break down.

So much pressure from fans as well to keep on providing content. Man, I could never play games for a job.

Glad to hear etika isn't suicidal. That's always good news.

Alright so after listening to the video and watching the entire situation go down, here's basically what I think actually was supposed to happen.

  1. From the video, he instantly cancels out all remarks of suicide being an option or discussion at all. He instantly rejected it when Alice (aka Christine, his ex-girlfriend) bought it up to him and told him that everyone thought he was feeling suicidal/going crazy and wanting to kill himself. That was clearly not the truth at all, which is a big relief.
  2. Etika speaks about his channel network that he was apart of when Alice also bring its up. Basically, his network was robbing him or preventing him from making money outside of donations. This leads me to the next big point I have to make/assume.
  3. This was an ARG thing (Alternate Reality Game). The channel blowing up was clearly panned. His mother trusted him, which he explicitly states in the video but his 3 friends (Fiona, Ray, Ben) all didn't. They were arguing with him and his mother about his decision when they saw Etika uploaded the porn on his account and came over to ask what was wrong with him. They clearly thought he lost his damn mind throwing his channel like that but there was a bigger plan to all of this.
  4. The cryptic tweets, decisions and posts on his subreddit wasn't about suicide. It was about rebranding himself and his channel. He probably wanted out from his network like he said in the video. He specifically states "They prevented me from making MILLIONS! Fuck that network".
  5. Etika was probably doing a planned ARG thing which was him cryptically blowing up his channel, letting people think he was hacked and then probably doing an "Im gone" stunt which would of only lasted for so long. He was probably planning to rebrand himself and his content, make a new account to stream on or move to Twitch where he could make more money.
  6. The good thing through all of this is that he isn't suicidal, he is getting a therapist, he wasn't having an episode and that he's gonna come back to streaming soon & explain the full story.

The law might vary from state to state but where I live, if you're seen as a possible threat to yourself or others, you can be held against your will whether you're an adult or not and sometimes this is not really made clear to you until you're at the facility and not allowed to leave. It's a shitty system

7. Received a lot of exposure over the interwebs which will enhance his future earnings.

I feel that there was more "planning" that went into this that is being disclosed.

I think you haven't been around much. On this forum, for some reason, Etika is like someone cool and everything about him is cool... so they're gonna be in this post until someone closes it down

He Just went live on twitch. I couldn't watch some of it, basically it was supposed to be a kill off of his old network, and being true to who he is, and that got out of hand, he said it was never supposed to be about suicide or be sucidal it got all out of hand. His twitch is Etikaworldnetwork if anyone is curious. Thats all I caught so far, he is still explaining what happened.

Sounds like bullshit to me. Only an idiot wouldn't know what they're doing with the language he used.

So he wants to kill off Etika but still uses a very similar name on Twitch? I call shenanigans.

Whole thing comes off as a stunt to me. And the people around him seem like bullshit too.

Its not like he can go on youtube and explain what happened since his channel is gone. His Twitch was always a backup, hes had that for a long time just in case.

It's no secret that the easiest way to become big on Twitch is to already be popular on YouTube and just have everyone migrate over.
Etika is starting things off right with massive manufactured drama which gets a lot of viewers interested and he made sure his donations system is up and running before going live.
It is all very calculated, and Etika is about to make a LOT of money off this stunt.

I don't believe in Twitch/streaming so I won't be seeing anything he does unless it gets mirrored on YouTube or something. Even then, I would only watch his reactions to Smash stuff now and then out of curiosity.

Not a fan, not a hater, so in the end this doesn't really effect me much. But I definitely won't be supporting him in any capacity after what appears to be a stunt like this.

"Not meant to be suicide" my ass. He knew what he was doing or he's seriously dense as fuck.

I haven't been watching his whole stream but I'm pretty sure this dude's on some Kanye shit. The way he's been acting kind of reminds me of the shit Kanye's been pulling lately.
Also, he was posting shit like this:

Being in a bad place does not excuse someone of using a slur and posting porn (as part of a pre-planned ARG!?) where a lot of children will have been exposed to it; Mental health issues do not absolve someone of responsibility for their actions, especially when they impact others.

Having dealt with mental health problems all my adult life, I feel stigmatised and somewhat infantilised whenever terrible behaviour gets chalked up to mental health problems, especially when whoever it is in question has not put forth this as an explanation for their behaviour. It wasn't that long ago that being forthcoming about my own mental health issues meant that many thought I was a danger to myself and others, liable to persistently lash out or do self-destructive things, and this thread has echoes of that. I hope he gets the help he needs regardless.
