Deserved, not going to lie. Surprised to see BLOPS4 making the Top 10.

It's amazing how many people thought this game was going to flop before it came out. That guy who said 10 million was selling it short

Famitsu digital numbers are worthless. Unless you can source virified numbers please refrain from using them

Capcom has turned into one of my favourite pubs this gen alongside Sony. Good to have them back at full power.
I think Capcom has now finally managed to come up with the perfect blend between Japanese game development and Westernization.
They could bring back Lost Planet and Dragon's Dogma applying this new formula and make them into something really big.

You failed to mention this is from Famitsu which includes digital estimates and they hardly ever line up with reality. Plus Famitsu's numbers for Smash are wrong with what we actually got from Nintendo.

With the updated numbers provided from by Nintendo didnt we find out Smash did 3.1 million in Japan in 2018 aka outselling MHW? At least with the MHW numbers you provided.

Those digital numbers are not reliable, unfortunately. Analysis in the Media Create thread has already shown that digital for Smash is above 500k, as per Nintendo's own fiscal quarter report. The Famitsu digital numbers are not reliable as I said, and in fact have been outlawed in the Media Create thread recently for that reason.

Going by that, Smash should be the best-selling game of 2018 I Japan.

LOL the obvious proxy console war going on in this thread sure is something.

Ignoring the top 2, Pokemon's numbers are kinda shocking considering previous series sales. The rest of the world really carried this entry.

Monster hunter came out in january, Smash in December...

(Still crazy considering difference in mainstream popularity in franchises, sure MH has always been big in Japan but not smash big)

Portable 3rd and MH4 Vanilla sold more than what Smash has sold so far, actually. Legs might carry Smash past MH4's 3.5m though.

well whichever sold more MHW and Smash both killed it

and that top 10 is crazy. Switch's software selling power is something else.

Oh wow, really interesting breakdown. I didn't know we were getting digital sales for Japan as well now!
It's a debate we have been having in the Media-Create threads that is spilling over into this thread because our conclusion is different than what this thread title is. The Famitsu Digital Estimates that are the basis the OP is formed upon are really flimsy at best. Every time we have been given shipment/sell-through data it hasn't matched up favorably with the Famitsu Digital numbers, they just are not accurate enough for us to be including in sales discussions.

For now, we take into account any shipment info we have and then the physical sales in MC, Famitsu, and Dengeki. By that measure, Smash outsold Monster Hunter World.
