As I understand it that was the previous lap to his pole lap
I freely admit it's not necessarily directly transferable, but in some racing games it invalidates the next lap if you run off the track in the sector prior to starting your flying lap because you can gain a massive advantage on the start straight. He definitely didn't do this on purpose and he didn't gain by hitting the gravel, but it feels like that should be a black and white rule that you've got to keep it in the lines for the last sector/microsector/corner before a flying lap. Surprised it wasn't.

Do I smell the Ricciardonnaissance in the air? Mark my words, from now on he'll be 2.5s clear of Tsunoda in every session.

Well, you know that after the Ricciardonnaissance comes the Age of Tsulightenment.

And what a great quali, pure madness in Q3. I loved seeing Hamilton the rain master back, even if it didn't quite end with a pole.

if you have grass/gravel on the outside of the last turn it's already self-penalizing anyway

the only problem is that it got deleted/reinstated, there should be better communication about stuff like that so the broadcast etc isn't so confusing

Yay, Norris on pole 😎 I've no doubt Max was pushing that bit harder, but he was really struggling. What is the forecast ahead, any more rain on the cards?

The grass fire was weird, have they painted it green, with highly flammable paint? 😄 Never seen lush looking grass catch fire like that.

I'd rather have a slight delay to the final results than laps being deleted and reinstated. Drivers could end up lifting off believing they're safe, especially in treacherous conditions such as today, only to learn they should have continued pushing shortly after.

Having a lap deleted only affects the driver at fault, so if they find out late they're not in the position they believed they were, they only have themselves to blame. Hopefully now we've had it happen for a position people actually pay attention to the process will be cleaned up in the future.

Feels like a procedural error led to them deleting the following lap, as mentioned above the following lap is only deleted at specific tracks, this one not included so it should never happen here full stop, automatically or otherwise. Ideally they should resolve this for tomorrow's qualifying.

I forgot this session was on, glad I tuned in just before SQ3 as it was a pretty mental session.

But I thought Hamilton was supposed to be washed??

That was a fun sprint qualifying, hopefully there's more rain tomorrow!

Will Norris finally get his first McLaren W tomorrow?
Doubt it. Think it's meant to be dry tomorrow so I wouldn't be surprised to see Verstappen in 2nd or 3rd place by the first corner and then in the lead by the end of lap 2 or 3, depending on where he is at the end of the first lap given that DRS is active from that point.

I think most drivers know that their championship is not with Red Bull or Verstappen so don't want to hold themselves up fighting the inevitable against him when there are more important fights to be had.

Encouraging to see the RBR car doesn't look like its normal scalextric self in the wet

Hopefully that rather than the drivers being thrown a bit by the conditions 🤞

You forget just how popular Lewis is until a decision goes against him on track. Kinda crazy going the FIA conspiracy nuts come out in force again.

The FIA website says there's an 80% of a wet track for the Sprint tomorrow so it could be absolute carnage, Williams need to get the bubblewrap out. I feel like a pile-up into Turn 1 is almost inevitable if it's anything like SQ3.

Lots of heavy rain expected overnight too. Hopefully challenging conditions even if its dry.

Lewis in the wet is a GOAT which tracks because of how attractive he is....*ahem*...but anyway, P2 in the Sprint. I kept a cup of hopium in the fridge just in case. Don't ruin this for me.

Obviously the stewards couldn't take Sir Lewis getting a pole position so someone quickly edited the race director notes to allow Lando to CHEAT his way to the top

If I'd checked it were a sprint I would have avoided the result. Anyway, thought Mercedes were back but it looks like it rained.

We've had the DNF and now the chaos, my wishes have been fulfilled so I'm afraid the rest of this season is going to go as predicted.

Ah no worries at all, tbh I hadn't thought about spoilers at all so it was a useful reminder!👍 (I can't remember what the rules on spoilers is in the thread 😀🫣)

Figured I might as well just spoiler it 👍

THE IV IS IN!

In all seriousness lmao Lando. Two bad starts in a row.

Now we got a fight for first between Hamilton and Alonso. F1 gods have smiled on us today.

Ah the classic Lewis just run them wide move. Of course within the rules but pure shithousery.
oh please Lando was trying to go faster around the outside than he had any business going considering the green track and cold tires. He slid out of the track all by himself.

Lando is making a habit of bottling good oppertunites

those 2 Ferrari's, McLarens and Perez will be quicker than Lewis for the rest of the race. He'll be lucky to stay in the top 3 imo
