The first page already all complaining about the watchers of fate or whatever, bring all new silly things to make the game feel newer and funI don't think anyone is mad about "some" new elements. It's more the fact that in order to make Midgar into the focus of an entire game, MOST OF THE GAME will be new stuff, delaying the actually good parts that much further away.
Not really. Maybe modern representation, but if we go by the NPC models in the original, they were pretty varied in style:
I hate how great this could actually work. What if by "modern" they mean Cloud will now cross-dress as Lightning from FFXIII

I never thought I'd see blatant trolling as I have in this forum. Step away from the computer, drop the ham sandwich, and back the FRACK off gaijin. I hate to use that word but you've made me that serious. As hard as it may be for you to fathom, some of us here are actual fans of the Final Fantasy series (pre FFX) and Square's work in general. You can try to bash me for a FunkoPop I bought because I happen to be a dedicated fan of perhaps the most poignant, painstakingly woven tapestry of love, loss, and vengeance ever to be put from pen to paper, but you would fail, like all you flamers do in real life. Who can say that the minds at Square Enix (note: the appropriate portmanteau is SQUENIX, not the laughable SQUEENIX) were not inspired by the works of William Shakespeare or Chuck Palahniuk? Cloud's Bastard Sword has more akin with the bastard sons of Macbeth than it does any armament or basilard of the time. The Honey Bee Club in Midgar reminds me more of the Fight Clubs than any brothel. So please, use your brains, not your sarcasm, and step up to the intellectual plate, or leave this forum and take your "haterade" with you.
Goddamnit. If that black smoke is Gackt I'm gonna be pissed.
They're totally gonna retcon him in, aren't they?
Yes. I hope the game also offers multiple alternate outfits for every character. I love it when games do that.

You're showing special, named NPCs... The NPCs in the train are quite clearly not these. Not really. Maybe modern representation, but if we go by the NPC models in the original, they were pretty varied in style:
I think the Boss and the women that that use that model were designed to be inspired by a 1950s look:
There's also Johnny, of course (we'll see him in Episode 1):
And maybe Episode 2 or 3, when we get to Corel and Gold Saucer, we'll see Mr. Coates and Ester(two I'm anticipating):
If anything, FFVII Remake's world needs less Normies and more spikey haired characters with unique fashion tastes.
Hmm no I think most of those are normal NPCsYou're showing special, named NPCs... The NPCs in the train are quite clearly not these.
Johnny, Ester, etc. are not on that train.
Okay but weren't you talking about NPC variation in the world of FF7, not in one train? Some of those NPCs are named NPCs and some are not.
thank you.apparently aerith is not going to die anymore even tho Nomura said the main story is not going to change.
Its wild out here.
I guess some enemies will be weak to slashing or striking attacks, so specific characters might deal more damage to them or something. Each playable character has different enemy affinities? what does this mean?
Johnny, Ester and Mr. Coates are the ONLY ones I posted that aren't. The rest are NPCs in the original, folk you'd see walkin around towns and such. They aren't all homogenized looking. The artists made an choice to make them all look somewhat unique, and that look is just as much a part of FFVII's world as Cloud and his spikey hair. At least to me it is. Cloud is supposed to stand out because he's the main character, but he's not supposed to stand out in the world itself. He's not a fish out of water, it's his world, he's going to be somewhat a reflection of it.
I think it just means they wanted to do the scene respectfully and in line with modern expectations.
So they have consulted with their friends at Atlus around how to best handle it.

thank you.
Well I think removing aerith's death from the story-line it's pretty lame and dumb.
I keep seeing people comment about this but haven't seen any source. What interview was this from?
Which is why that won't be happening (just an assumption started with knee-jerk reactions over what the "watchmen of fate" represent).thank you.

Sorry it's late (took a while to find), dunno if it's been answered already, but it was here at 1:55:
And it's going to cost us $200 and be a gigantic waste of time and money just so Square can have a goddamn decade-long vanity project instead of actually respecting players' time and money and putting out a remake that honors the original game without flooding it with useless crap.
They're asking us to trust them and I just don't. They've given us absolutely no reason to believe they can pull this off.
Ya, Double D Tifa appears exclusively in those late-game CGIs around the North Crater.
Those shouldn't be a reference for anything, they don't even maintain the same style or character models throughout the entire game.
EDIT: I hate myself for even discussing it

Would actually be cool especially if tifa dies in exchange"watchmen of fate"? Fuck they're going to let you save Aerith aren't they? Jesus fuck.

Could you imagine the aerisdieslol spoiler being reborn as tifadieslol
It would be amazing

Yeah it still stayed the worst movie I've ever watched.Yeah Im gonna call Bullshit on this. I also watched complete thinking "maybe this will help the movie out a bit"
What if by "modern" they mean Cloud will now cross-dress as Lightning from FFXIII
I'm planning my FF7R bluray microwave/snap in two/blender/drive over it reaction video just in case.Would actually be cool especially if tifa dies in exchange

Breh. Come on. Seriously?I don't think I should pop into FF7-related threads anymore. All people do in here is act hysterical and whine
no Square spent most of that time making 2 games in the seriesI mean, Square spent quite a few of those 22 years adding new elements and tweaks to fresh up the story.
The problem is, the tweaks sucked.
Yeah, hopefully it won't take the greater part of 22 years to make the next two.no Square spent most of that time making 2 games in the series
