Do people ITT really believe that GameStop doesn't sell a lot of consoles for a 100% increase to be notable or am I being punk'd?
Well someone actually pointed out that 1x2=2 so I'm reticent to jump to conclusions either way as a result...

Your data for Switch topping June NPD is a free game getting 2 million downloads?
I bet people were tripping over themselves to trade them in when they found out they could Fortnite on the go with proper controls :pWasn't that the week where they were giving $250 credit on any PS4 or X1S that got traded in for a Switch?
Implying having two instead of one is a bad resultWell someone actually pointed out that 1x2=2 so I'm reticent to jump to conclusions either way as a result...
Yes yes and your comparison is still lololol compatible ^^Did you read the entirety of my post?
If Gamestop is right (or relevant) we're gonna see the Switch take the June NPD by storm, because their baseline is already very decent. Time will tell.
Much less than the lackluster E3 presentation, isn't this simply the effect of the good old "wait until after E3" mantra?
Many of those wanting to purchase a Switch were just holding out for:
* Nintendo to possibly announce a new SKU / hardware refresh
* Nintendo to announce a price drop
* Other consoles announcing massive price-drops / unexpected new games
Since none of these happened, those who wanted to buy a console in June just pulled the trigger immediately when all cards were on the table.
This is as similar of a 'duh!' as "Samsung phone tops sales charts in August" (1 month before new iPhone releases)
Then why didn't they report this happening for other consoles?
I think it's more due to the excitement for Smash and the availability of Fortnite.
We know Fortnite has been moving every single piece of hardware it's on and a Switch version has been heavily requested, so it's not hard to assume Fortnite will be moving Switches too.
Seems like an unhealthy attitude towards a company. What has GameStop done other than annoy gamers with pre orders, subscriptions, etc?Doesn't really mean much.
1 doubled = 2.
GameStop is still probably gonna liquidate within the next 5 years. Thankfully to some, unfortunately for others.

Because the other consoles are way further into their life cycle and therefore have way less dramatic growth potential. They're certainly up compared to the previous month, but not by a noteworthy margin.
If you're that late to the PS4 / Xbox generation, E3 2018 wouldn't really be that impactful on when you'd purchase the device.
Gamer A: "Smash sold 20 million copies and Breath of the Wild 2 makes the first game look like garbage."
Gamer B: "Yeah, but Nintendo's stock is down 7%."
Like that?
Yes yes and your comparison is still lololol compatible ^^
It's not that important to "win" NPD to me (because I don't console war) when we know the console is doing good (second to the PS4 in the US so far but good) and will do far better this summer Q3/Q4 compared to last year with way more systems in the market and their 2 biggest system sellers releasing back to back.
Basically, even if in Q1 they are behind compared to last year (the launch quarter) it won't be by much and they'll easily ship more consoles in Q2/Q3/Q4 this year because they'll have the supply. It's not rocket science unless you are the kind of people that see things in stock market % variation, E3 ranking trailers, Labo rants, kiddy "mainline" Pokemon GO and 20mn E3 Smash Direct.
Except it is.
Nothing weird. Shareholders =/= consumers. What a bizarre topic list. I saw a thread about Nintendo stock going down and a few threads later I see this. I'm glad to see this good news.
Really? LolThe secret biggest 2018 announcement to come from E3, made 10 X bigger because of the Crossplay issue sparking the mainstream media
Here is the preliminary data
https://www.cnet.com/news/fortnite-on-nintendo-switch-cracks-2-million-downloads-in-24-hours/
oh, that's what you meant ...Well let me put that another way, is this (console sales doubling the week after a so-called poor E3) something that happened during the PS4's or XB1's early years?
At this point, whenever there is good Switch news, I just expect the inevitable "but but Switch is dead and Nintendo is doomed stop celebrating them!" postsDo people ITT really believe that GameStop doesn't sell a lot of consoles for a 100% increase to be notable or am I being punk'd?
This will certainly be the case for many. Even Smash 64 is still played in college dorms and at parties, the series has massive mainstream interest.Anecdotal, but I have heard most of my causal game friends who own PS4s and what not say they want a switch post E3. They keep saying they've kinda wanted one and this smash is the one they want to jump in on. Seems like smash was the tipping point for them on the sideline and maybe many others feel the same?
Lol come on. You can't seriously be comparing the Switch in the US to the Xbox situation in Japan, that's just nuts. I agree we need numbers as GameStop tends to release these statements fairly often, but there's no doubt the Switch is doing fine in the US.Once again, we need to have numbers to make something out of it.
I guess NPD will tell us how things really went down, if Nintendo wins the month soundly, then we know E3 had such a strong impact as Gamestop implies. If it doesn't we have further confirmation that Gamestop is mattering less and less.
Remember that Media Create thread where the XBox had a 866% WoW increase in Japan and jumped to a whopping 4k units sold?
Negative crossplay mainstream media coverage for PS4 was the best free Fortnite promotion the Switch could have ever asked for.Fortnite having a positive affect on switch sales are a given.
Fortnite having a negative impact on PS4 is not.

The PS4 is the hottest device in gaming, the numbers prove it.I literally called this, that Switch would win the June NPD (July and August as well) because Sony and the crossplay issue did a massive mainstream media promo for Fortnite.
You have the biggest game in the world, the hottest device in gaming, and mainstream media coverage up the wazoo.
Now let's wait for the numbers and see if I'm right.
How is it the hottest device in gaming when it's being outsold in most markets by a console nearing its fifth year?I literally called this, that Switch would win the June NPD (July and August as well) because Sony and the crossplay issue did a massive mainstream media promo for Fortnite.

Sigh... stock reflects shareholders faith in company, not consumers.
Sure, but also I'm sure it did significantly better and got off to thunderous early momentum with hundreds of millions of eyes on mainstream media like this and the many other outlets that covered the story.Fortnite was going to do well on switch no matter what. Hasn't really had any negative impact on ps4.
They are neck and neck launch aligned right now and that's before Smash and Pokemon have dropped. Switch was the fastest selling ever in 2017 as well. How is it the hottest device in gaming when it's being outsold in most markets by a console nearing its fifth year?
First post nailed it when they said it was due to the heavy trade in promo for it.

oh, that's what you meant ...
hmmm, i dunno - don't ask me how accurate this is, but:
(Xbox doubles from May to June in 2014, PS4 doubles from May to June in 2015 ... and there's some very apparent April / May = "Wait until after E3"- dips)
https://www.theverge.com/2014/7/17/...ubled-in-june-npds-but-ps4-takes-the-top-spot
The June spikes are real. But in '14 the Xbox dropped the bundled Kinect(?), so that'd explain that.
Too lazy to look up any huge system sellers in June '15
I'm quite sure these post E3 sales "spikes" are caused by rather low sales in May, and not due to impressive June numbers. And this constellation appears every year, regardless of who "won" or "lost" E3, really.
Mario Tennis put in work!I dont think a lot of people will buy a system in June to play a game coming out in nov/dec.
Sigh... stock reflects shareholders faith in company, not consumers.
Xbox should comfortably win June NPD as they had aggressive discounts all month. Gamers always try to read the tea leaves and think the likes of E3 or cross-play affect these things. But it always comes down to price and software.Your data for Switch topping June NPD is a free game getting 2 million downloads?
I dont think a lot of people will buy a system in June to play a game coming out in nov/dec.
The PR made it sound like a lot of the interest in the console was tied to the announcement (and pre-orders) of Smash. Of course people aren't going to buy a console now just to play a December game, but its announcement could very well be the tipping point in getting someone to buy now.
Unless you have data suggesting otherwise.
I dont have data but just what I've seen what really helped it was trade promo and fortnite.
What a bizarre topic list. I saw a thread about Nintendo stock going down and a few threads later I see this. I'm glad to see this good news.
