'14 was way better than this turd. That one had a very satisfying buildup to the awesome atomic breath climax, but anything bearing any semblance to that buildup was gone here. King Ghidorah went out like a total chump out of nowhere. Oooh, but what about sequel tease?!?! Just stop.
The sense of scale is also something that felt better expressed in 2014. The designs for the classic Godzilla monsters were more striking here, but the scale of destruction was way better done with the MUTOs and G himself last time. The visual effects were undeniably amazing this time, I just wish there were utilized a little more effectively.
Also, what in the world was up with the constant one liners? I thought that would've been a weird quirk of the trailer, but nope, it's here in full force. I love me some cheese in my movies (Shazam! pulled it off spectacularly this year so far, and hell, look at Skull Island in this own franchise for a better take), but there was a constant tonal disconnect with the darker, more like '14 beats.
Hype for Godzilla vs. Kong hangs even lower than G's resting place.
