I haven't see The Last Key yet but I find the Insidious to be repetitive, I wonder how many more films that can make in the series.

Angus Sampson related, it's worth checking out 100 Bloody Acres, an Australian horror comedy. He plays a rural fertiliser company owner, I'm sure you can guess how his fertilised is made.

Had no idea about Suffer Little Children, a UK VHS indie horror in the early 80s. A school project literally. Actors did it for free for their school. Censorship was wild during that time. Now you can find thousand similar movies on streaming sites.
I really liked the natural voice acting of the actors and kids. Despite the low budget and the lack of editing, story is very well executed and the ending was a bloodbath.
Early 80s UK indie VHS scene was something I hadnt heard off till today.

26) The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh (Lo strano vizio della signora Wardh) (1971) (Oct 27)

Never before has a giallo giallo'd as much giallo as The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh.

Seriously, this is perhaps the most giallo movie I've ever seen. I really wish I had written this review right after watching the movie, not 2 months later because there's so much to say about a movie like this and my memory is fading.

While not as influential as Bava or Argento, director Sergio Martino is best known for his giallo work, many of which featured "Queen of the Giallo", Edwige Fenech. Fenech plays the titular role here and is always a joy to watch. While it was his first giallo, Martino plays with typical genre elements as well as injecting unexpected twists and creates a fresh, exciting film. As usual for my gialli reviews, I won't be going into plot details because it's best to watch this one unfold on your own.

Giallo fans, The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh should definitely be on your list if you don't mind your gialli a little on the sleazy side. Sergio Martino's films certainly aren't as classy as Mario Bava's, but we're not exactly getting into Andrea Bianchi territory here either.

This is my favorite Giallo, ahead of Tenebrae, Who Saw Her Die?, All the Colors of the Dark, and Bird with the Crystal Plumage.

It's SUPER giallo as hell, for sure.

Random post but if any of you haven't seen Suspiria yet, do yourself a favor and watch it.
I'm about to watch it before I go to bed because I'm a weirdo.

I was looking around for a good horror thread, glad I've found one :)

I'm a big horror movie fan, and will happily watch a couple a night and more at weekends if I have time. And being 50 years old, I'd like to say I've sampled what every decade has offered us.. from the campy 70's to the slasher 80's to the jump scares & twists of the 90's and beyond..

I'm happy to say that horror is making a bit of a revival of late, with more movies being greenlit by the big studios, and some of the more impressive indie stuff going theatrical releases instead of being dumped straight to DVD / VOD.
It follows : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3235888/?ref_=nv_sr_1
The Witch : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4263482/?ref_=tt_rec_tti

My favorite genre in horror are the found footage ones, but this is also probably one of the most swamped genre's now, and sorting out the good from the bad is quite the task, however since the Blairwitch project gave new life to the genre I do feel that although there are plenty of shit movies out there (because let's be honest, it's probably the cheapest type of horror movie to make) there are also plenty of good ones, with decent stories and even if they're unknown, quality actors.

some i'd recommend are :

The Atticus Institute : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3280916/?ref_=nv_sr_1
The Taking of Deborah Logan : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3387648/?ref_=tt_rec_tti
Afflicted : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2309961/?ref_=tt_rec_tti
The Tunnel : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1735485/?ref_=tt_rec_tt

I enjoy the more documentary style of found footage movies so Atticus Institute and the very underrated Australian horror movie the Tunnel fit that bill for me.

I'm also a fan of your more traditional horror too, but not necessarily films that go for the gore value, so I'm not a fan of the hostel movies or their ilk.

I did enjoy the IT remake and Get Out
and if anybody wants any good horror stories to read I'd recommend the fog, Moon and the spear by James Herbert
Relics by Shaun Hutson.

And if you like a good ghost story then look no further than MR James.

Man, I finally found this thread. I was looking for some Horror centric thread on ERA. It seems there's not that much horror fans around here, since very few horror ots are created outside of the big releases. Anyway, nice to see there's a place for horror discussion here.

So, how would you guys feel if we create a Weekly movie discussion here? We could vote for the movie of the week and then have seven days worth of discussion until the next movie. Since there's an almost infinite amount of movies to chose from, we could limit each week to a theme, like "Universal Classics", "Hammer", "Troma", "90's", "Slasher", "Modern Horror", "Haunted House", EtcERA. Does anyone feel like participating?

Never knew we had a horror OT. Man, I love horror so much. I used to be on a horror forum so long ago for ages that was so much fun, but unfortunately, that forum ended up shutting down.

Anyway, I ordered Channel Zero series one on Amazon. Pretty stoked to start watching!

Watched Don't Breathe on a plane from Japan since usually horror movies keep me awake on planes.

Pretty meh honestly. I had heard good things (and some of the sequences totally delivered) but the twists at the end felt like just a way to extend the runtime after they ran out of ideas.

I started watching 31 last night. It was late so I turned it off right after the game started. Reading some reviews, it sounds like this one might be a bust, ha. I'm going to finish it, but I worry I'll be disappointed.

It's really just a white trash version of the Running Man. Interesting idea but not so good as a product. I did enjoy the maging of stuff Shudder had a lot more

I also saw Insidious Last Key over the weekend and it was pretty awful.

I thought the young Elise stuff was pretty inspired but it just didn't seem to know how to create a good film with the rest of the material.

Also:

What the fuck were they thinking with Elise's teenage niece having a relationship with Specs? That shit was uncomfortable.

I just finished listening to the Shock Waves episode with the director and Lin Shaye. That sucks to hear. :/

It's great! Bleak, the killer is a child murderer; beautiful, it's shot in Venice. And unintentionally hilarious right at the very end just before the credits roll (and thankfully not before) but to explain why would be a big spoiler.

Hell House LLC? If anything I find it being overrated. People here or on the old site talked it up but once I saw it I was pissed that I wasted my time finishing it. It was a third rate Paranormal Activity and flawed beyond belief. The most memorable part I have of is where some guy that can't put the camera down tries to exit the building. He gets up to the exit door and pounds on it like he can't get out...except when the camera pans off you can clearly see the panic bar made for letting people out! So this idiot goes off to get killed by ghosts because he can't work a fucking door... To each their own, but that movie sucked and I was thoroughly disappointed in it based on what others had said. Now, there was potential there. It had a cool premise and setup it just fell hard and fast.

I only ever seen the first Hellraiser, which I did actually enjoy. Heard the others were pretty weak/bad.

Also, do we think we will ever get another Friday the 13th? What happened to that project that was supposedly found footage F13? Was that cancelled? I'm surprised nothing has been done with the property.

Oh boy that new Hellraiser looks real bad. I saw that Doug Bradley once again refused the role just like Revelations.

There was an on-again, off-again new Friday that was basically another remake that finally got really close to production which Paramount shit-canned at the last minute. I think they basically regretted getting the rights back to Jason from New Line/Warner.

At the moment there's a legal battle over the rights involving the writer of the first film. I don't think that will go anywhere. Assuming it doesn't, the rights revert from Paramount back to Warner this year.

The Limehouse Golem has been advertised as a British horror film. I can't really recommend it, I found it pretty boring. It features the woman who's to play Art3mis in Ready Player One.

Its absolutely bonkers that they haven't been able to make a new one yet. Seems like a slam dunk for making money.

Anybody here ever read Clive Barker's Pinhead send-off novel The Scarlet Gospels? It's...not good. I know it was technically co-written by someone else, whom I suspect probably re-wrote the bulk of it since Barker was seriously ill at the time...

So I just finished Jigsaw.

Fuck the SAW series. Tobin Bell is fucking awesome and I love him, but he deserves SO much better than what this series has turned into. The series has created it's own set of tropes that, unfortunately, this movie took full fucking advantage of. Secret game of the past! I was trained by Jigsaw (who the fuck wasn't at this point)! Secret "don't be a dick" twist that could have saved EVERYONE! I was framed!

Etc etc etc etc

I mean, damnit.

Yeah, I like torture porn, but I like it with at least SOME story. I think SAW did an incredible job of balancing the two. But man, every movie after that go exponentially worse. SAW II might have been OK (it's been a few years since I did my re-watch), but hot damn did they get dumb.

I need a better torture porn movie to watch. The Cube was a neat concept, and Cube 0 has some cool backstory, but Hypercube was duuuuuumb, and the series has since disappeared.

So, I gave up on Saw after the first 3... I loved them but I was just done with them. Cube is one of the greats for sure. If you are looking for recommendations for "torture porn" type stuff I can give you a few. I have personally drifted away from it as I got older but I can point you to some that I enjoyed.

-Wolf Creek
-Hostel
-The hills have eyes (the original and the remake)
-I spit on your grave
-Audition
-Cannibal Holocaust

Those are the popular ones that come to me right away but I'm sure some fellow horror ERA users can give you some more obscure ones.
