I was looking around for a good horror thread, glad I've found one :)
I'm a big horror movie fan, and will happily watch a couple a night and more at weekends if I have time. And being 50 years old, I'd like to say I've sampled what every decade has offered us.. from the campy 70's to the slasher 80's to the jump scares & twists of the 90's and beyond..
I'm happy to say that horror is making a bit of a revival of late, with more movies being greenlit by the big studios, and some of the more impressive indie stuff going theatrical releases instead of being dumped straight to DVD / VOD.
It follows :

The Witch :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4263482/?ref_=tt_rec_tti
My favorite genre in horror are the found footage ones, but this is also probably one of the most swamped genre's now, and sorting out the good from the bad is quite the task, however since the Blairwitch project gave new life to the genre I do feel that although there are plenty of shit movies out there (because let's be honest, it's probably the cheapest type of horror movie to make) there are also plenty of good ones, with decent stories and even if they're unknown, quality actors.
some i'd recommend are :
The Atticus Institute :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3280916/?ref_=nv_sr_1
The Taking of Deborah Logan :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3387648/?ref_=tt_rec_tti
Afflicted :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2309961/?ref_=tt_rec_tti
The Tunnel :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1735485/?ref_=tt_rec_tt
I enjoy the more documentary style of found footage movies so Atticus Institute and the very underrated Australian horror movie the Tunnel fit that bill for me.
I'm also a fan of your more traditional horror too, but not necessarily films that go for the gore value, so I'm not a fan of the hostel movies or their ilk.
I did enjoy the IT remake and Get Out
and if anybody wants any good horror stories to read I'd recommend the fog, Moon and the spear by James Herbert
Relics by Shaun Hutson.
And if you like a good ghost story then look no further than MR James.
