My life sucks.

Where the hell are the self-driving cars already?

Anyone else have bullshit commutes? How much of a pay cut would you take to work from home?

Going to sleep, gotta be up early again tomorrow.

My life fucking sucks.

My commute is around the same length too, and 12 hour days. So I'm out of the house for 14. Pretty killer.

That sucks.

I live 15 minutes away from my office walking, 5 minutes biking.

I used to drive an hour and a bit when I worked in a casino a few years ago but had a coworker I drove with and we left work super late at night or so traffic wasn't that bad. That surburbia to city commute is death tho and I would never be able handle it. Traffic is soul sucking.

I do that on a packed rush hour bus.

It's kind of hell but it's where I do my podcast listening.

I used to commute an hour and a half, each way. Never again. Long commutes aren't worth it. I'm 10 minutes away from the office now and you'd have to pay me 50% more money to get me to go back to anything close to my old commute.

thats why i moved 3 miles away from my work. the rent is more but i am pretty sure i actually am saving money cuz of the gas and maintenance. also i no longer wake up wanting to die as often

i had the means to do so and not everyone does of course, but fuck ever driving that much again for work of all things

now i walk to work, still takes almost an hour but its exercise and peace

Same for me except it's an hour and 20 minutes. My last job I had a 5 minute commute. I can move closer to work but rent is way more expensive.

Yes, audiobooks are good or just some music you like.

I love music but for some reason I never could get into audiobooks. NPR sustains me but I get out of range and have to switch stations halfway through my commute.

It's gotten so bad I've taken to reading news articles on my drive. I gotta get out of this loop.

I used to have to drive an hour to and from work and loved it. I got a lot of podcast and audiobook listening in.

I used to do 2 plus hours one way in traffic with a stick shift. It was only 60 miles or so. Never again! Happy my commute is minimal now.

I commute an hour and 15 everyday. The caveat is that I have no mortgage or rent (inherited house) so I'm saving money. Still, I'd love to work closer to home and I'd probably take a pay cut, but most of the jobs where I live are lucky to pay $10/hr. That's a little too much of a pay cut. I might look for something better paying next year though, even though I like my job to a degree. At least I have zero traffic on my commute and the scenery is pretty I guess.

Wow wow wow that is nuts! I just took a pay cut of about 3% to go from a 45 min drive to 4 minutes. So much better.
I don't know how you do that. I would be so depressed once Sunday afternoon rolled around knowing what's coming.
Edit: I read hour and 30 minutes but an hour and 5 is still bad.

In the bay it used to be 2 hours each way, 4 hours total daily. Eventually I paid the premium to live in the city to escape.

Now it's a 30 minute bus ride

Like other people have said, audiobooks. I listened to Kurt Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions today. I have been meaning to read some of his books for a while now, but being able to listen while I commute and work makes it so easy. Some audiobooks come with short interviews with the author which is always nice. I even find myself re-listening to some of my favourites more than once.

Just started a new job this week and have a similar commute. So far, it's not bugging me too much since I'm enjoying listening to a couple of albums a day. I know it will eventually though, but by then I'll probably live closer.

I feel like if I could just sit somewhere and sleep/play games/read for the commute it wouldn't be nearly as bad. Of course, I don't have to deal with people which is a positive.

When you're sardine packed in with a bunch of people, no AC, and someone performing a pole dancing routine about to kick you in the head, it's hard to get things done. Even in the earlier stops on the train, it gets filled up immediately. System needs a serious overhaul. I try to get on in one of the earliest stops possible and when I do get a sseat I get to sleep/read.

8 mins to work

I had a three hour one way bus ride to school for 10 years. The drive back was a shorter 1.5 to 2 hours.. 5 fucking hours every day. The closest English school was 35km away but the bus had to pick up kids in all these rural country areas on the way..I was the first kid on the bus.

My commute is about an hour each way and it's only 12 or 13 miles depending on the route I take. It's part of living in LA. It's not always this simple but, if it bothers you so much, move closer to work or find a different job.

I liked commuting as it was more time to listen to music but I absolutely hate driving on the highway in rush hour traffic. It drives me nuts. If I can spare it I'll always take major/ side roads.

It takes me roughly 20 minutes to drive to work, but coming home takes nearly an hour or more. Traffic just absolutely sucks. Just another reason I wish I could work closer to home.

My commute is 30 mins with traffic (Las Vegas Strip). It's no hour and a half but feels like it sometimes.

Mine was about the same.
Now I drive 20 minutes to school. Goes like nothing. Before I got that job, I used to think 20 minutes was too damn much.

You need to look for a job closer to home. Or a home closer to your job.

You should not be expected to commute that long. Even with audiobooks or podcasts, it's an unacceptable situation you've been put in.

How many miles each way, OP? Mine is 23 miles, can take from 1-1.5 hours each way (aka, brutally slow). I've drawn from depths of patience I didn't know I had. But I'm with you, my soul is slowly dying. Any day I can work from home is a wonderful gift.
