Believe it or not, this is my first thread ever despite being in the old community for close to 10 years. That's how much this issue is annoying me.

Imgur links are appearing broken to me (Only on ERA) both on mobile and PC (When using Safari - they display with Chrome, but for many reasons I prefer Safari). I've tried clearing my cache and this did nothing. On desktop I can at least open them in a new tab and they will load, but this isn't possible on mobile.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone know a fix?

Yeah it's an issue with the site. imgur https does not like resetera https for some reason.

It would be nice if they could either auto-convert imgur https links to regular http ones, or present a message if someone tries to use it so they can make an informed decision.

The solution I found (at least on PC) is to right click the image (open image in new tab) you want to share and link directly to the .jpg, or whatever it is.

Let's see if this works (just a random image):

This is a known issue, there was even a PSA in the announcements section. People are supposed to be using a different host while it is worked on but people still link to Imgur anyway. Like 50% of the pictures I want to see are broken.

It does seem way worse for me on mobile than desktop, but 80% of my browsing is on mobile. I've found if you click reply to the post it will load all the pictures into the reply box for you. That's an inconvenient, but functional, work around.

Yup - that's my workaround as well.

Edit: I don't understand why some people can see this pic and some can't though.

This doesn't work. As an aside, once you've accessed the image at the link once and it's in your cache it will display. So it will appear as if it is embedding correctly to you while others won't be able to see it until they copy the link and visit it directly.

Yeah, like I said... it looks like it's working to the poster because the image is in their cache. It's also displaying correctly in the thread for me now too, now that it's in my cache.

Edit: Also as mentioned in the OP images all load fine for me in Chrome, but not Safari.

There was an announcement saying not to use imgur but I don't think a lot of people have read it. It's rather annoyingly on mobile as I see it in most threads.

Yeah, if they can't work out why the images aren't loading, auto-converting the link seems like the way to go.

Never had an issue with an imgur image on my end, downloading and uploading.

Just curious as to the exact issue that's causing this.

i've been using abload too or manually removing https:// from my imgur links, but i'm not 100% that works.

imgur pictures posted by other people with an HTTPS link will not work in the mobile version of the site. Unsure if it only affects iOS Safari but that's what I use so I see a ton of broken images. It sucks.

edit: Incidentally, I'd like a way to load the desktop version of the site while on a mobile device. The in-Safari option doesn't do anything.

Affects Safari on macOS too.

You always want to do this

Sounds like people are attempting to link to the gallery or whatever. And please, no one use abload. Its slow as balls.

A quick update. We have made some changes on our end and members can now post HTTPS imgur.com images as usual. All the broken links are also recovered now.

We are still talking with imgur.com and trying to reach a solution on their end. Will update when we have more to share :)

Sincerely,
#tech

Note: the patch is only effective if you are using the following browers:

Chrome 49 and newer
Chrome for Android 61 and newer
Safari Technology Preview on macOS
Firefox 55 and newer
Opera 47 and newer
Android Browser on Android 5 and newer

Edge 15 and newer, Safari on macOS 10.1 and newer (excluding TP versions) and Safari on iOS 10.2 and newer only have partial support to the patch method we are using. As a result you may or may not be able to see the HTTPS imgur.com images in thread if you are using those browers.

Internet Explorer (all series, including 11) and Opera Mini (all series) are not supported.

Yeah it's a big downer for someone who 100% views this site on their iPhone.

I mean I mentioned in the OP that the issue is non existent when using Chrome on PC. It is persistent on Safari (Both desktop and mobile).

You can hit the reply button on the post with the broken images to load them in the reply box. They'll load correctly there for some reason and after that you can refresh the page and view them in their post since it's already in your cache.

Sucks having to do this for every https imgur image, but it works.

I don't think I have this issue on my end but I reluctantly signed up for Flickr to post images here anyway. I'm hoping this issue gets resolved at some point.

I hope it gets fixed in Safari iOS, it's kinda of a bummer.

On my PC it works perfectly though.

This needs to be addressed ASAP. Some threads are practically broken with this glitch.

(Also Safari on OS X user here)
