Asterisk is that I am including only the default version of a boss, not a hard mode version. So stuff like the Hard Mode version of Lord Fredrik (DKCTF final boss) wouldn't be included, just the regular fight against him. But unlockable previously unseen bosses would be included. I'm not including boss rushes, either.
(This is just my own arbitrary criteria, of course.)
The final secret level of YCW is a battle against Kamek, over four rounds, aka Kamek Kerfuffle.
Each of the first three rounds is a redux of an earlier battle with a twist. Pieces of the floor are falling the entire time. Also, everything is happening more frenetically and quickly. If you fall, you die instantly. Restart. There are no additional hearts between rounds. You get hit 3x, you're done for.
The first round is a souped-up version of the Tin-Can Condor, the second is a spin on the Gator Train, then one round against Kamek's version of the Baby Bowser robot (the regular final boss of the game.) Then a final round as the Go-Go Yoshi-Bot, which earlier in the game represented one of the most difficult levels to 100% in a Nintendo game in a long time, with its request for pin-perfect precision for a top score. The same level of precision is required to land the final hits against Kamek, who appears to be wearing a Labo vest of some kind (and Labo is also referenced in the secret costumes in the game).
Anyway, the level took me hundreds of tries to beat. It felt great to finally beat it. The robo section at the end requires a good bit of rhythm and as someone who has none, I found that especially tricky. Over the course of all these tries, I got a lot more comfortable with the initial rounds, but compared to first trying them, and to the other boss levels in this and most other 2D Nintendo games, I felt like this represented a real challenge.
Also, if you felt like this was too easy, there are challenges to complete:
Anyone else feel like this was an especially hard boss? What other uber-tough 2D Nintendo bosses come to mind for you, especially sidescrollers?
(Another really hard level in this game is the one with the unbeatable Killer Clowns chasing you. If you're finding the game too easy, just go for 100%, it is plenty hard in a lot of these levels.)

- Clear by 2:50.00.
- Clear without taking any damage.
- Clear without causing any platforms to fall.
