Getting a new color-hosing cycle, it seems. It's been a while since the last one. This seems good.
Good memories of this card. Though as a beginner, "noncombat damage" confused the hell out of me. It's any damage not caused specifically by a creature attacking/blocking, FYI.
Two mana exile-discard with a creature that can do more. Neat.
Sorin, Mu Yangling, Vivien and Ajani are all in as Planeswalker decks. Sorin, Mu and Ajani are on the booster pack art, so chances are high they're in the set.
This'll get played in Commander for sure.

Sacrificing an artifact for a card is new for red. We had just one card before that could sacrifice lands for cards that I can recall, Aggressive Mining.
Wonder why they walked back on Protection. It feels like this was change they made last year, so for it to come back this quickly means something changed really quickly

Source article explains that for the sake of Brawl, they're going to have a five color Commander in every Standard. So yeah, they still think Brawl is a thing.
Neat seeing Kaalia in a Standard set. Like the article mentions, the character feels more "real" when that happens.
Reprint, and Standard replacement for that ascend flying creature I suppose.
Stronger than Muscle Burst (asymmetry aside).

1) It didn't technically go away. It got moved from evergreen to deciduous, so it just showed up less.
2) The reason it's flirting with returning to evergreen is the needs of play design. I'll talk about it a bit in next week's article.

Your article on Core 2020 specifies that there are no non-evergreen keywords.Blightbeetle has Protection from green. Did R&D change their mind on protection being removed from evergreen? Or am I misremembering and you were just using it way less?
Protection is back to evergreen on a probationary status.
