Maybe you were mistaken by Shadowverse demo being available recently in occident
Nah. I get my YGO info from ygorganization, which is a Yu-Gi-Oh specific website. I did a quick read on some news about the demo back then and remembered wrong when it would be released(Though it was June, but it's July). Should fact-check what I say before commenting.

Yugioh initially got a boost because that was when they announced the promo cards and uploaded screenshots. It will probably get another boost with the demo.

COMG! preorders chart, Week 26 2020:
Each point represents one preorder at this retailer. It is a relatively small retailer located in one region so be careful when you extrapolate, especially regarding Otaku games (overrepresented) and family games (underrepresented).

1. Monster Hunter Stories 2 - 65 pts (+23 pts)
2. Yugioh Rush Duel Strongest Battle Royale !! - 63 pts (+0 pt)
3. Shin Megami Tensei V Collector's Edition - 43 pts (+10 pts)
4. Skyward Sword HD - 28 pts (+4 pts)
5. eBaseball Pro Baseball Spirits 2021 - 26 pts (+8 pts)
6. Utawarerumono Zan 2 Collector's Edition (PS4) - 25 pts (+2 pts)
7. Utawarerumono Zan 2 (PS4) - 24 pts (+2 pts)
8. Utawarerumono Zan 2 Collector's Edition (PS5) - 15 pts (+0 pt)
9. Utawarerumono Zan 2 (PS5) - 14 pts (+2 pts)
10. Crayon Shin-chan - 13 pts (+6 pts)
11. Lost Judgment (PS4) - 12 pts (+3 pts)
12. Tales of Arise (PS4) - 12 pts (+0 pt)
13. Lost Judgment (PS5) - 7 pts (+2 pts)
14. Furaiki 4 (NSW) - 6 pts (+0 pt)
15. Demon's Slayer Collector's Edition (PS4) - 5 pts (+0 pt)

19. Furaiki 4 (PS4) - 5 pts (+0 pt)
20. Demon's Slayer (PS5) - 4 pts (+0 pt)

Lol I'm thinking there is a possibility SMTV may hit 500K if everything lines up. Then again all it needs to do is sell 300K to beat previous SMT title sales.

Good boost for Monster Hunter. I hope it legs it to the first games total.

It is doing very well, but it'll need more than the Collector's Edition to explode in sales. The standard Edition performance will be very important closer to launch, in order to know whether the franchise is expanding to newcommers.

A demo like DQ11S closer to launch is something I believe could help push sales further if done well. I'm sure the demo for Monster Hunter Stories 2 is helping its performance so far. I know Atlus gave Persona 5 Strikers a demo in Japan so hopefully, they do the same for SMTV to sell newcomers to the game.

Still, the collector's edition doing well so far is a good indicator of the potential the game could have. Doesn't completely tell us a lot but it is still a good starting point.

Probably relevant to that is that Disgaea 6 is £50 on Amazon.co.uk and was £55 pre-launch, Ys IX Switch is also listed as £55(PS4 currently £50), Shopto and Game don't seem to be stocking either. The Game Collection stocked Disgaea 6 for £45 but doesn't appear to have Ys IX.

I was quite shocked.
Just a small aside: TheGameCollection did have Ys IX for preorder - my preorder is still standing from last July at a bargainous £36. I'm hoping they honour it if they've stopped taking orders for it. I got Disgaea 6 from them 4 days before release as well for about £40, although that was with one of their 10% off weekend vouchers.

Seriously, I've got about 14 preorders from TheGameCollection. They cater to the niche Switch games better than most and are relatively cheap.

I just signed up to them last week for Disgaea. It definitely looks like they don't have a listing for Ys 9 Switch any more.

Hmm. I hope they come through for it. I wouldn't like to try and source another copy from elsewhere if they dont.

If you've just signed up, keep an eye out for the 10% off weekends they do - it even works for preorders so it can work well.

Since MH Stories 2 is out next week, this old post of mine is a little more topical now. I'm going to copy/paste it below.

hs1z9hs.png

On the subject of Capcom, I think it would be interesting to talk about the sales of Monster Hunter Stories 2. Capcom has historically had some success with the kids' market (largely with Mega Man Battle Network, back in the day), which we know they attempted to replicate with the first Monster Hunter Stories.

However, that didn't quite pan out. The game sold just 316,470 units at retail in Japan.

We know three things about Monster Hunter Stories, by virtue of its sales numbers and some educated guesses:

1. It didn't attract a large number of MH fans
2. It looked like a game aimed at children, but didn't attract a large number of children
3. It was a JRPG but also didn't attract a large number of JRPG fans

We know Capcom is attempting to address these issues with Stories 2 in various ways. One of the biggest changes is that the game's new character designs look older and a lot more like they would appeal to the typical JRPG audience. So here's a look at how the last few major JRPGs of note have sold on Switch in Japan:

AaGbcXt.png

I'd imagine that Capcom is looking at a lot of the same games to help forecast sales of MH Stories in Japan. Given the above figures, the strength of MH as a brand, and the Switch's ability to sell software, I think 450-500k in lifetime sales would be a reasonable estimate.

(I also think Capcom will want to push digital sales the way they have been, because that's one of their broader goals, even in Japan. So I could see digital accounting for 20-30% of sales.)

As an aside, I 100% feel this game is happening because Capcom sees overseas potential after MH World and the resurgence of the JRPG genre. I could see lifetime sales for MH Stories 2 roughly breaking down this way:

- 450,000 from Japan
- 600,000 from USA (400k on Switch; 200k on PC)
- 200,000 from Europe (100k on Switch; 100k on PC)
- 100,000 from Asia (40k on Switch; 60k on PC)

450-500k in Japan would mean MH Stories 2 ends up selling around 13-14% of MH Rise's sales (taking 3.5 million as a "safe" estimate for that game), which I feel is fairly reasonable. Part of the goal is to get more MH fans on board, after all. (For context, MH Stories sold around 8% of MH4's retail sales in Japan.)

Good breakdown.

So to be clear, you expect 450k in Japan retail + digital so around 300k-350k at retail ?

I expect bigger sales out of Japan tbh. Especially in Europe/Asia.

Not even mentioning the elefant in the room that are digital sales, for a lot of these titles they need updated retail numbers
Xenoblade DE is 320k shipped (148k retail )
Octopath is at 250k retail
Xenoblade 2 266k retail
Fire Emblem 3H at 380k retail (shipment surpassed 500k sometimes ago)
DQXI had its budget release and is still charting occasionally, was at >100k last week on Famitsu (on top of full price SKU which is near 600k)

Unless specified otherwise all these data are from MC CY 2020

That is my overall estimate for Japan, yeah. ~450k including retail and digital. Hopefully the game surprises us!

Good info to have! I originally made my post a few months ago using Famitsu data, but the MC data is good to know, too. That said, I did account for digital in my estimates, so I'm going to stick with my breakdown for now. It would be very cool if the game manages to surprise us all and do better than 450-500k.

Just looking at the COMG new sales for the past week; supply constraints for Samurai Warriors PS5?

The game had a 40% - 60% sell-through across Japan on both systems, so I'd assume the chances of the PS4 version specifically being out of stock at Comgnet are rather low even if not zero.
Looking at Amazon.co.jp rankings, the Switch version has been charting higher than the PS4 one for a good chunk of last week; right now the PS4 SKU is ahead once again but the difference is small.
Even Tsutaya's ranking might hint at the two SKUs being quite close this week considering its own historical trends.

Agree entirely. Just in case it's of interest to anyone, here's an interview saying exactly that and some other points about wider appeal:
Tsujimoto: When we decided to make a sequel, we wanted to go back and look at the feedback we received from Stories 1, which came out five years ago. And so one of our goals actually was the same as when we created Stories 1, which was that we wanted to take the Monster Hunter franchise and make a game that appeals to a wide audience. And for Stories 1, with the art direction we went in, we received some feedback that the characters looked maybe younger--they looked maybe like [the game was made] for children. So when we began development on Stories 2, we wanted to course correct there and make it appeal to a wider audience.

With that in mind, we said, "Well, what can we do in order to appeal to more people?" So one of the first things we did was we built out the environments with deeper lighting and visuals, and also the characters themselves are more grown-up. We believe that we have addressed the issue of the game feeling like you can't play it if you're an adult. We believe that it will appeal to a lot of players, both young and old, and we hope everybody will enjoy it.
Do you have any final message for fans?
Kawano: We received feedback from the fans that they wanted a sequel, and we know it was a long time for Stories 2 to finally come out. We put a lot of effort into the development and the graphics, and we worked really hard on this game, so we hope that players will feel the love that we put into it.
Oguro: We are hoping that players will feel the essence of Monster Hunter, the action game, in this RPG. We're really proud and think that we captured the essence of Monster Hunter and the action in it. Also, we worked really hard to make it easy for players to play, just to jump into the world and have no experience with this sort of game and be able to pick it up and learn all the elements in the game naturally and progress through the game without any sort of issues. So we worked really hard to make it fun and easy to get into, and it's an RPG that we think players will enjoy.
Tsujimoto: Monster Hunter Stories 1 was released five years ago, but eight years before that was when we originally had the idea for a game that would be Monster Hunter but different. And so we have spent a lot of time thinking about this game and the elements. And what we really wanted to express when we developed this game, we wanted to make sure that we captured the Monster Hunter feel in an RPG. But we also wanted to make sure that we didn't just transmit the Monster Hunter feel, we wanted to build on that with the characters--fleshing out the characters, developing feelings with monsters, and just deepening the lore and the story of the Monster Hunter world. So we worked hard on the graphics and the visuals and really expressing the monsters, and we think that Monster Hunter fans, of course, will enjoy all those elements. But we also believe that players who aren't necessarily into action games or [Monster Hunter's] real-time battles, maybe they're more interested in story, especially if they like JRPGs--we think this can appeal to lots and lots of players, and we hope that everybody enjoys it.

As a JRPG fan, MHS2 is attractive to me, i had no interest in MHS1 and didn't even care enough to read about it and realize it wasn't a normal MH game.

A bit late to the subject and also a bit off-topic for this thread. But I want to mention that NoA added quite a lot of Disgaea 6 stuffs on My Nintendo. You can get In -game item, digital manga, and three wallpapers. Heck, they even hold a sweepstakes for a metal art print and a plush.

If anything I'll say that it seems like NISA got a good deal on this. Most third party games doesn't even get this much stuffs on NA My Nintendo.

Idk, remember when sie promoting that metal max reboot on its account when the game was still ps4 exclusive, and some people assumed that it must be because of sie cutting a deal with kadokawa? This gives the similar energy imo

Weirdly, the old Nintendo UK Store in the UK carried NISA stuff(they even sold Mishy shirts!) but it doesn't look like that's the case any more, despite still carrying other third party games.

If Samurai Warriors 5 on Switch is close or higher than PS4 we might not need to wait until next entry so that Switch becomes the leading system. Next and final Omega Force series strongly connected with PlayStation is Dynasty Warriors which has almost zero appearance at Nintendo systems.

My main point was in the last thread, if we only can count two games which can do potentially 200k before Re8 release then having a list of 200k sellers between got release make less sense in comparison Vs a 100k release

Anyways cyberpunk and cod performance I'll Discuss elsewhere with you

The game had a 40% - 60% sell-through across Japan on both systems, so I'd assume the chances of the PS4 version specifically being out of stock at Comgnet are rather low even if not zero.

It's 60-80% on PS.

DW9E Switch will actually be the first mainline DW game on a Nintendo platform to get a day one release with everything else. All other DW releases have either been years late ports (DW8XL and DW8E on Switch) or custom spinoffs (Advance, DS Fighters Battle, 3DS Vs, a DS mahjong game).

My mistake XD Thanks for the correction. Still, it's not the kind of sell-through that makes me think Comgnet was potentially out of copies of the PS4 version.

EDIT: If I may share my piece on Cyberpunk and COD's performance contextualised in the discussion on the state of the PS environment

Cyberpunk 2077: The word-of-mouth killed it so I don't think it's entirely fair to take that game as a sign that in the PS ecosystem is getting harder and harder to cross the 200,000 thresold even for bigger games.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on the other hand? A pretty fair example in my opinion. Yeah sure we can say that Warzone probably played an important role by stealing the premium game's audience, but we're still looking at a major decrease compared to the past few years.

I totally get what you are saying but I feel like:

- the number of 100k+ games tell you more about the quantity of the software support (aka number of notable games)
- whereas 200k is a treshold that would indicate more the quality of the support/health of the ecosystem. A higher treshold could be chosen too.

It is a bit arbitrary but I think you understand why those two metrics could be different. A notable game should always sell 100k+ no matter what so it doesnt tell much about the health of the ecosystem.

Only in call of duty case, I see a potential high digital share of 40% in Japan due to how the ratio have been 60-70% in other countries and how the series has leaned more towards digital.

Cyberpunk was bad WoM

I don't know if there's a reality where SMT5 does better than Monster Hunter Stories 2. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I don't see it. SMT4 is overall the best-selling (and most accessible) game in the series by far, and that only did somewhere in the vicinity of 260k at retail. It's hard to imagine a scenario where 5 effectively doubles that, no matter how good or cinematic or mainstream it is.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner (Sega Saturn) did 350k+. While it's a SMT spinoff rather than mainline I think it should really be considered the historical franchise peak.

I assume many thought Monster Hunter Stories 1 would have done really as well because it has the Monster Hunter moniker, but in the end, it didn't do that great. I'm not saying SMTV will do better than Monster Hunter Stories 2, but at the same there is potential it could. Personally, the jump from SMTIV and SMTV seems bigger than Monster Hunter Stories 1 to 2. The reason why I'm optimistic and betting hard on SMTV is because of the huge jump. The game has 3D demons in the overworld, animations have given the demons more personality, areas are a lot more open-ended, the MC design catching the eyes of many, and etc.

Nintendo and Atlus doubling down on the November date for SMTV has me thinking they are positioning the game to be a big release with the holiday sales helping a lot. Lastly, the Switch having a strong core Jrpg audience will surely help the game sell well. All I'm saying is that I could see a scenario where SMTV could be more appealing than Monster Hunter Stories 2. Still, we have to wait and see considering that for SMTV to do really well it also needs good wom.

Now don't get me wrong while I pointed all the reasons, Monster Hunter Stories 2 still has a strong factor on its side and that being it will have an easier time appealing to the younger audience compared to a game like SMTV. Sure you may be right and MHS 2 does way better than SMTV, but I just want to bet on the side where the odds are low lol.

Edit: Also with the help of Persona growing I could also see that audience contributes to SMTV sales as well.

Scarlet Nexus just needs to keep selling this well until the heat death of the universe and it'll be the best selling game of all time in Japan. This is based on all current knowledge of the game and it disproves the haters.

Soft drop for Scarlet nexus as I predicted.

Are you basing that on the GEO chart above?

If so I'd note that last week they had Samurai Warriors above Mario Golf which was obviously not representative, and the Musou game are still 2&3 there(with the Switch SKU going up a rank) and those games are not particularly leggy AFAIK.
