I'm totally down with a port of YW1 on Switch. We are seemingly getting the original Layton on Switch as well. Both had mobile ports so HD assets should be available. I wonder if Nintendo will take charge of the western release since ideally it'd reuse their localization.

I don't think that video explicitly said the original Youkai Watch will be released for Switch. The exact wording is:

The と I highlighted is just refering to it as the 2nd part of the Level 5 news rather than refering to it also being playable on Switch Lite like Ni No Kuni.

I would also be curious how much of a rework is needed considering the 3DS dual screen, and things like during combat you need to draw circles quickly with the stylus (I'm so not doing it with my fingers).

It depends on how desperate people are to buy the Lite before the tax hike less than 2 weeks later. 2% may not be much, but tax hikes are always going to be psychologically off-putting. And I think Nintendo is doing its part to produce plenty of Pokemon lites and letting people preorder it early to lessen the load from such rush purchase of regular lites and resulting in lack of stocks.

They should remake YW1 in the YW4 engine. It'd look like the original PS3 concept then.

Sort of like how IE Strikers was originally going to be a full 3D remake of IE1 on Wii.

It doesn't make much sense. YW1 world is already fully replicated in YW4. YW1 plot is pretty light and there's not much to remake after all. YW2 is much more meaty in terms of contents and also include, basically, YW1 plot (to some extent). YW1 was never planned to be a PS3 game, though; the original demo was, indeed, a demo to show off the product but no platform was announced.

No platform was announced but it was originally conceived for PS3 before matriculating to 3DS for obvious reasons. Sort of like Ni No Kuni on PS3 and DS, although that ended up going ahead with dual releases. DQXI was a similar story albeit not L5.

Considering the timeframe of its tease, disappearance and resurfacing as a 3DS game I always assumed it was a Wii U game at first; not PS3.

I won't judge the move before we get the pricing.

If the pricing is aggressive (cheap) it could be an easy gift alongside a Switch Lite and could push this audience toward YW4 when they finish it.

It seems that Nintendo is too focussed on advertising FE:3H that they've neglected MUA3. I'm not sure how strong the Marvel brand is in Japan and if it can carry the games sales on its own.

Marvel has never been bigger in Japan, however interest in big budget Hollywood movies does not always translate into sales for video games. No point in advertising any more than they already have. The game is really made with western fans in mind. The series sells 2-3k here in the past. It will easily match that.

Avengers: End Game grossed over 50 million USD at the Japanese box office, so I'd say that the Marvel brand in Japan is quite strong.

Well Fire Emblem is already topping the eShop charts, while MUA3 isn't charting at all despite coming out a week earlier. Doesn't bode well imo.

Well, that's a loaded question. Some games have exceeded expectations (Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Super Bomberman R), while some have met expectations and done very well (Minecraft, Dragon Quest Builders 2, Octopath Traveler despite stock issues, MH Generations Ultimate, Taiko), and others have disappointed in some ways (namely Yokai Watch 4).

I would say the performance of third party titles on Switch is largely reliant on the effort and quality of the games themselves, aside from YW4 which was really let down by Level 5's handling of the franchise.

Good to hear. Is the Sword/Shield performance comparable to Sun/Moon for the first week?

It's funny to see the Lite having little impact so far. It'll be curious to see how that develops and what impact the Lite will have in the end.

The Pokémon news isn't all that interesting to me. If SS doesn't blow let's go out of the water it would be a monstrous failure. How it compares to previous mainline entries will be more telling.

Good to hear that switch sales aren't slowing down. If the OG switch keeps selling well alongside the lite that's going to lead to some incredible numbers.
