So between Demon Slayer and Tales of Arise, which will be the one to save the PS5?

hint:

Is Demon Slayer really going to be that big? Didn't some posters here say the preorders seem lukewarm at best for such a gigantic franchise?
It'll be big by current PS software standards which are pretty low. And there's always the chance of a late explosion as the new season starts airing.

Any range for NTWEWY and GAAC? (it feels so weird writing the acronyms)

Last Recode had shipped just 300k in 12 months. That CyberConnect2 finally managed to convince Bandai Namco for a super late port is an achievement since it will possibly include a physical release.

The only CC2 PS4 games that haven't been ported to Switch yet is JoJo that will never happen and Demon Slayer that will have to wait at least one extra year.

IIRC CC2 wouldn't release it on Switch simultaneously due to their relationship with Sony, but Bandai Namco weren't willing to fund late ports.
Didn't Matsuyama make a video about how, at least for Last Recode, it was Bamco not allowing a Switch port and not CC2? Or did I not remember that correctly?

Yes, but it was specifically that Bamco wasn't allowing it at that point, not at release.

Ports don't just pop up overnight. They were probably in development when he said that because it was already greenlit by Bamco because it was likely part of the original plan.

I like Matsuyama but he was certainly being coy.

That video was a year ago now. It doesn't take a year+ to port PS2 games to Switch.

Neo <= old/2

Great <= 3DS trilogy
Sigh... I hope things are better in the West (and maybe rest of Asia), primarily for Great Ace Attorney, since I don't think yet another sequel for TWEWY (beyond Neo) was ever in the cards anyway.

Also, unless I am misreading this means Neo > Great in Japan, but in the US eshop at least, Great > Neo.

Neo TWEWY's estimate could turn out to be accurate but I think you're underestimating The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. I can see the latter selling as much as Neo TWEWY if not slightly more; it all depends on how high the Switch version goes.

LOL

We live in an age where digital exists, so while physically Metroid 5 can do say… 100K, with digital should be around 120K at least.

But this is in a vacuum scenario. In practice it can skew differently, for one niche games skew less towards digital but more physically as their is a perceived value, but on the other hand it is a "hardcore" game where the "hardcore" audience is the type to opt for a digital purchase of the game. But this game is being paired with the release of a new model, almost like a promotional piece for the software as both release on the same day and these tend to skew for physical releases. But with "special discounts" that exist in regions like Japan with the Voucher system which allows you to get 2 for less than what 2 cost in other regions, this promotes the digital part of it.

Pre-orders from COMG! can give some insight into the performance of the game pre-release, but it should not be taken as definitive or close to it especially after the Monster Hunter Rise fiasco where what we saw pre-release did not align at all with the actual numbers. So, using it for some insight is what can be extrapolated from it. Places such as Amazon.jp also should also be looked into when extrapolating the overall game performance At the start.

Metroid 5 has a unique position for it where it seems more accessible, but whether that accessibility allows it to actually sell well in the Japanese market remains to be seen.

And sell well in this context would be, mm, >200k?

Given that it is a collection of 4 presumably relatively text heavy games, do we know roughly how big (in terms of file size) the .hack//G.U. Last Recode Switch port will be and whether it will likely fit on a single Switch card?

The game's been on my "to buy" list for years now and I prefer RPGs on the Switch, so I'll probably grab it on release. That said, I actively avoid games that require an additional download and hope this won't be the case here. I even imported the FFX/X-2 remaster from Hong Kong to ensure I had both games on the card.

It's 34GB on PS4, but it will be closer to half that on switch

Thanks, fingers crossed it won't require an additional download then. However, I guess after the Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 and 2 bundle we can never be 100% certain!
Capcom does it not to save space, they do it to make games non-viable for resale, since second hand buyers would only get half the product. I think they are the only ones to really do that (at least in Japan)

Like how Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D didn't allow saves to be deleted.

I think Square Enix has been pretty shady too though. IIRC FFX-2 is a download code but it's for DLC in the X/X-2 release which means it can't be used separately from a purchase of X.

Looking back at Capcom's financial presentation, they had 5 new game SKU released in Q1 of the FY (RE:Village all versions) with 8 more to go for the rest of the FY.

There's already 5 more coming this quarter (MHS2 x2 and TGAA x3).

We'll have to keep an eye on the remaining 3. They could be involving Resident Evil Outrage and/or an AA game, and/or something else.

How do the ports of GnG/Arcade Stadium and Rise PC figure into that count?
