Nothing so far indicates whether or not Capcom is planning a G version or not, though I'd say that their DLC rollout is decidedly similar to what they've done before (on disc unlocks of a few quests/monsters/decorative items over weeks and months for free) with the only slight change being charging for some cosmetic stuff which to me points decidedly in the direction of a G version.

They might just call the G version a "season pack" and sell it for 30-50 bucks in a year along with a new retail version, that's the only change I expect.

It would be a first, ao far Monster Hunter games had numerous iterations or versions. So I think it's clear it will be the case. I bet on a G version in November on Switch alongside the Switch light ( or whatever the Switch refresh will be called ).

Jesus, there are some extreme Switch fans here who can't see anything else.
Calm down.
The Switch is a home console, just like it's games..

The Switch is a home console

Yes, but we're not talking about a CONSOLE. We're talking about a GAME. And honestly we're probably not going to see a Switch game go 1 million right out the gate in Japan 'till Pokémon, Animal Crossing or Smash Bros.

What sfortunato means is that it's good to see Japanese interest in console gaming so early in the year.

It's funny really. When we talk about 3rd party support on Switch, we ask why 3rd party doesn't support a Nintendo handheld. But when Splatoon 2 hit 2 million, it became the best selling home console game since 2010. Switch is whatever fits the narrative.

Well, Switch was called Wii U 2.0 before the launch, and too big to be a handheld, etc.

It's a hybrid, it's both, ofc it fits both console and handheld narratives.

I never understood the part about handheld games and console games being different. 3ds games like 3d land, smash, and mario kart could all be console games, aside from the graphical difference.
The design philosophy is what set handheld and console games apart for a long time. When a stationary console experience was designed to last a lot longer between sessions while graphically it utilized the power of a more powerful piece of hardware compared to a handheld game.

Handheld games were handled differently. Sure, RPGs and the like made their way to handhelds and can have over as much playtime content as a good home console game, but a lot of games like 3D Land or Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon were made with handheld engagement in mind. Bite-sized pacing. More diorama based levels in the case of Mario, or arcade-style missions in the context of Luigi's Mansion. Pick up and play was the design philosophy behind those games.

At least that's how it used to be. Now it doesn't matter, cause we Hybrid now boi.

Hope this is not just another drive by then.

Design philosphy. Handheld games is more often designed for short term experience vs console games which often more time consuming.

It's a hybrid which is true and even as aters said that people will use it to fit there narrative.

I would simply ask a simple question,

If the Switch was just a portable machine in Japan with the existing game line up, would it had sold the way it has till now in Japan ? Most likely Yes !

If the Switch was just a home console with no portability feature with the existing game line up, would it had sold the way it has till now in Japan ? Most likely No

In my opinion

User was warned for this post for: Thread complaining and console wars rhetoric

Just keeping it real. It basically feels like a Nintendo Circle jerk. It feels if you say anything remotely positive about PlayStation 4 , someone's going to get at you. And god forbid you say something negative about a switch game sales.

Disagree, in fact I think the mods have been pretty good at giving warnings to people who post with a console warring mentality.

...wait, you are not the same user from before.

I would disagree with the notion that saying anything positive about the PS4 here is frowned upon, or that criticizing game sales of a Switch game in here is unheard of or unwelcome (Hell, Fire Emblem Warriors is a bomba is basically a constant reference).

Most of the Switch titles are performing pretty great, so the discussion is certainly going to center on how well Switch games are selling.
If anyone tries to say the sales aren't great, then people are going to counter-argue it, unless it's for titles that truly bombed like FEW.

Of couse Switch is also a home console and Switch games are selling extremely well. It is disingenous to think, though, that the portability factor doesn't play a role. Anyway, Switch just released, and we are coming from a period with abysmal home console sales. It's really nice to see excitement for a home console game---not saying many Switch titles didn't have. But we're talking about Sony here, and PS platforms.

Not really no... I'm often following MC threads without posting much and I don't see much console war. The few I saw were both sides, in different ways, at best.
And this "old country" thing as if talking about Voldemort seems so silly (whoever said it).
But that's just my 2 cents on it.

In retrospect releasing FEW before an actual new Fire Emblem wasn't the best decision. Sure it worked for Zelda, but FE is not on Zelda's level in terms of fan loyalty. Also it was way easier for Zelda to include fan favorite characters since they are constantly reused in each game, as opposed to Fire Emblem's 5 billion different characters and Marth.

Maybe we shouldn't reply to people trying to derail this thread? Let's not allow stupid comments to ruin the thread before we get news on MHW sales!

Probably would've worked better if they started with some of the more popular characters and diversified with more characters from other series.

Just keeping it real. It basically feels like a Nintendo Circle jerk. It feels if you say anything remotely positive about PlayStation 4 , someone's going to get at you. And god forbid you say something negative about a switch game sales.

You mean, the complain on Switch dont have third party which plagued MC thread for such a long time before dont exist lol?

Well, i imagine that they thought FE Heroes would've been enough to keep interest in the series high enough for Warriors. Maybe a tease via screenshot or short teaser-vid for FE Switch would've helped more ... although i don't know how big initial hype for FE titles is in Japan.

But we're talking about Sony here, and PS platforms.
does anyone say that.

That's like...one of it's main selling points. compromise portability for power and all that.

Switch selling because it's a portable is just saying that Switch is a more fundamentally appealing piece of hardware so its pretty lame way to try and downplay it.
