Switch performing much better than last year is a sign that Nintendo released the right games at the right time and was able to communicate the appeal of the platform to the general public.

Left Alive flop is a bit sad to see. I think SQEX would be better off to riesumate Front Mission and giving the franchise a good mid-tier game, possibly on Switch, to attract the Fire Emblem fanbase.

Yeah...this kind of performance during its "slow" 2019 period isnt expected. 2nd half will be nuts with the revisions and those heavy hitters starting with Mario Maker 2.

Smash is way bigger than it's ever been, and Let's Go is not as successful as typical mainline new gen games (which it wouldn't be, since firstly it's a remake and secondly it's a gen 1 remake, for which not a lot of nostalgia exists, making Let's Go a bit of a meagre proposition in comparison to typical remakes). It's those two combined.

Most people don't watch the direct but only read the news. The Direct brought the goods there: name reveal, starter reveal, and some screenshotable scenes. That's all you need for your reveal when you're Pokémon.

Incidentally, I thought the direct was pretty good, but our personal opinions don't really matter in light of the stuff I mentioned above.

Possibly some people wanted to play pokémon already, and decided to go with 3DS (it's only 3k, so not that massive a number, of course).

This upcoming FY will really expose publisher that dont have high quality content ready for Switch - they had two years adapt to new market realities. Some of them have been fine with their games flopping just so they can stay exclusive on other consoles....but for next year, it will be difficult to downplay those business decisions.

Though at least one big Switch title from the big japanese publishers is expected - second half might get crowded once these titles get announced in addition what we already know of.

I think it is more likely someone got the urge to play a (mainline) Pokemon game after the direct.

It would be nice if you could stop using generalisations because I never said anything negative towards Pokémon. Yeah I didn't see a Direct having such an impact but that doesn't mean I predicted that the hardware numbers would tank.
